Chapter 32 - Sting Like A Bee

Osaka, Japan

Karin and Rika's Shack

April 7th, 2023

Rika retracted the vines, revealing the shack to the giant bee-like damned creature. It hovered in front of the shack, its wings buzzing as it awaited Rika, Karin, and Iris' next move.

Iris burst the door open and stepped outside, her short sword in hand, ready to face off against the damned creature.

"Karin, go to a safe distance and be careful," Rika said. Karin nodded and sprinted off to a safer spot. Rika then stretched her hands toward the bee-like creature, and vines sprouted from the ground, lunging towards the enormous bug.

As the vines lunged towards the giant bee-like damned creature, it let out a menacing screech and attempted to dodge the incoming attack. However, Rika's control over the vines was precise, and they entangled the creature's legs, momentarily restraining its movement.

Iris took the opportunity to strike, dashing forward with her short sword. She aimed for the creature's vulnerable abdomen, hoping to deliver a decisive blow. But the damned creature's reflexes were quick, and it managed to deflect Iris's attack with its sturdy exoskeleton. The sword's blade scraped against the creature's tough outer shell, producing a shower of sparks.

Rika continued to manipulate the vines, keeping the creature partially restrained.

"Iris, be cautious! Its exoskeleton is incredibly strong," Rika warned, her concentration focused on maintaining the vine's hold.

Iris nodded, adjusting her stance and looking for another opening.

"I'll find a way. Just keep it distracted!" she called back.

Karin, who had positioned herself at a safe distance as instructed, watched the battle unfold with concern.

"Be careful, Iris!" she called out, feeling helpless but knowing she couldn't get involved in the fight.

The creature, now enraged and desperate to break free, unleashed a flurry of stingers from its tail, aiming at both Rika and Iris. Rika quickly shifted the vines, using them as a makeshift shield to protect herself and Iris from the onslaught of stingers. The projectiles bounced off the thick vegetation, preventing any harm.

"Thanks, Rika!" Iris called, her determination unwavering. She spotted an opening near the creature's head and lunged forward again, aiming for its eyes.

Iris managed to land a successful strike, slashing one of the creature's antennae. It recoiled in pain, giving her a moment to retreat and reassess her strategy.

Rika continued to manipulate the vines, trying to keep the creature off-balance, but her energy was starting to wane.

"We need to finish this quickly," she called to Iris.

As Iris prepared for another attack, a sudden realization struck her. She remembered a weakness she had noticed earlier – the creature's wings seemed more fragile than the rest of its armored body.

"I've got an idea!" Iris shouted to Rika. "Can you entangle its wings with the vines?"

Rika nodded, her eyes showing signs of fatigue, but she focused on the task at hand. She directed the vines towards the creature's wings, managing to ensnare them partially.

Seizing the opportunity, Iris charged forward once more, slashing at the creature's wings with all her might. The wings began to tear, and the creature's ability to fly was significantly impaired.

With its mobility reduced, the bee-like creature became more vulnerable. Iris and Rika coordinated their attacks, with Iris aiming for its weak points while Rika used the vines to immobilize it further.

With its mobility hampered, the bee-like creature continued to put up a fierce fight. Iris and Rika knew they couldn't afford to let their guard down. The creature's stingers darted out more unpredictably, making it challenging for them to anticipate its attacks.

Iris darted around the creature, her agility allowing her to evade the stingers with precision. With each strike of her sword, she chipped away at the creature's defenses, drawing dark ichor from its wounded exoskeleton. But the damned creature wasn't without its own abilities. It emitted a deafening hum, causing the ground to tremble, and a shockwave rippled outward, knocking Iris off her feet.

Rika reacted quickly, sending thick vines to shield Iris from the shockwave's impact.

"Stay focused, Iris! We can do this," she encouraged.

Gritting her teeth, Iris regained her footing and pressed on. She noticed the creature's movements were slowing, a sign that Rika's entwining vines were taking effect. However, the strain was evident on Rika's face, and Iris knew they needed to end the battle soon.

Rika tightened her grip on the vines, trying to immobilize the creature completely. But in its last-ditch effort to break free, the damned creature let out a spine-chilling cry that echoed through the surrounding landscape. The cry seemed to resonate with the environment, and the very air around them grew charged with an eerie energy.

As the ground beneath them cracked, a sudden surge of darkness engulfed the area. The creature's wings, despite being partially restrained, began to emit a dark, malevolent energy that threatened to break Rika's control over them.

"We need to act quickly!" Rika shouted, her voice strained. She directed the vines to tighten their grip further, while Iris moved in for a decisive attack.

With all her strength, Iris launched herself at the creature, her blade glowing with an ethereal light. She aimed directly at the creature's heart, hoping to deliver a fatal blow before it could muster any more dark energy.

Yet, just as Iris's blade was about to strike true, the creature unleashed a final burst of power. A shockwave of darkness repelled Iris, sending her flying backward. The impact left her dazed and bruised, but she refused to yield.

As Iris staggered to her feet after being repelled by the creature's dark shockwave, Rika rushed to her side.

"Are you okay?" she asked, concern evident in her voice.

"I'm... I'm fine," Iris replied, shaking off the dizziness. "But that was close."

The creature, weakened but far from defeated, began to gather its strength for another attack. Rika knew they had to act swiftly before it could unleash another powerful wave of darkness.

"Iris, we need a plan," Rika said, her mind racing. "We can't take any more direct hits from that dark energy."

Iris nodded, her determination unwavering. "Let's use our surroundings to our advantage. Those trees over there," she pointed towards a dense forest nearby, "might provide cover and help us evade the shockwaves."

Rika agreed, and the two of them swiftly retreated towards the forest, staying close to the tree line to avoid the creature's line of sight. The creature let out another cry, but this time, Rika and Iris managed to dodge the shockwave, using the trees as shields.

As they moved through the forest, the terrain became more uneven, providing opportunities to confuse the creature with sudden changes in direction. Rika utilized her control over the natural elements to create illusions, making it harder for the damned creature to predict their movements.

"Iris, when you see an opening, go for its wings again!" Rika called out, her eyes scanning the battlefield for the best moment to strike.

Iris nodded and focused on the creature's wings. As they maneuvered through the forest, she noticed that the wings were starting to show signs of strain, thanks to the vines' earlier entanglement.

Spotting her chance, Iris launched herself towards the creature's wings, her sword aimed at the weakened areas. She managed to land a powerful blow, slicing through the membrane of one of the wings.

The creature howled in agony and fury, lashing out with its stingers in all directions. Rika used her vines to shield them once more, but the creature's attacks were becoming more desperate and unpredictable.

As Iris staggered to her feet, her vision slightly blurred from the impact, she could feel her strength waning. The creature had tapped into some hidden reserve of power, and its malevolent aura seemed even more intense now. Rika rushed to her side, concern etched across her face.

"Iris, are you alright?" Rika asked, her voice tinged with worry.

"I'll be fine," Iris replied, trying to steady her breathing. "But we can't let it get the upper hand again."

Rika nodded, her determination unwavering. "Agreed. We need to end this now."

As the two friends faced off against the creature once more, Rika realized that they needed a different approach. The vines had proven effective in restraining it earlier, but now the creature's dark energy seemed to corrupt their connection to the natural world. They needed a plan that didn't rely solely on the vines.

"Iris, try to find an opening in its defenses. Aim for its wings again if you can," Rika suggested, her mind racing to find a way to defeat the formidable foe.

Iris nodded, analyzing the creature's movements more carefully now. She observed that the dark energy seemed to emanate from the creature's core, spreading outwards. If she could strike that core directly, maybe they could disrupt the energy and weaken the creature.

With newfound determination, Iris lunged forward once more, her sword gleaming with a radiant light. She evaded the creature's attacks with grace, her agility serving her well in the face of danger.

As Iris neared, the creature attempted to repel her again with another burst of dark energy, but this time, she was ready. Rika focused her energy and summoned a protective shield of light around Iris, negating the dark shockwave. She pressed forward, undeterred.

Rika, watching closely, saw the opportunity she had been waiting for. The creature's wings were momentarily exposed as it unleashed the dark energy. Seizing the moment, Rika summoned the vines, not to restrain, but to wrap tightly around the creature's wings.

The vines began to siphon the dark energy away from the wings, causing the creature to roar in frustration. The dark aura surrounding its wings weakened, and Iris saw her chance.

With all her might, Iris drove her sword straight into the creature's core. The blade pierced through the dark energy, causing a violent reaction. The creature convulsed, and its wings began to disintegrate.

As the dark energy dissipated, the creature's movements slowed, and its screeches grew weaker. The once formidable foe was now vulnerable and on the brink of defeat.

Rika maintained her grip on the vines, preventing the creature from escaping or launching another desperate attack. Iris withdrew her sword from the creature's core, her breath ragged, but a triumphant smile on her face.

"We did it, Rika,"
