When my vision finally returned, the first thing I noticed was the ceiling. The second thing was that I was inside a room of a normal house and not a hospital ward, and the third thing was the face of that woman named Kara.
She looks sad.
"Hey you, you're finally awake."
Hearing that voice that I haven't heard before, I turned towards the speaker. He was a man of average height. He looked in his early Forties and judging by his clothes, he must be a doctor.
I tried to reply to him, but I realized I was too tired to speak. My mouth just refused to move.
"You don't need to speak." He put his hand near my shoulder and gave me a calm smile. "My name is Carlos, and I'm a doctor. You were injured pretty badly, young man. If it wasn't for this lady here, you'd be dead by now."
I turned toward the mentioned lady, who was none other than Kara, only to see her looking at the floor without paying us any attention. I can see her eyes looking swollen as if she was crying.
Carlos gave the woman a sad look, before turning toward me with a small smile.
"I hope you get better soon. We have a lot to talk about."
"T-thank...you..."
I muttered, and that was enough to grab both Kara's and Carlos's attention.
"T-thank you...for saving...me..."
Tears welled up in my eyes, and I couldn't help but cry.
Even though I was acting strong inside my head, I was scared. Scared that I'd die and will never see the light of day again.
I wanted to live, to experience life! I was only 9 years old, and that was not a good age to die, not at all! I wished to see my aunt again! There was nothing in the world that I needed more!
That is exactly why I cried, because now I can experience it all. I was extremely overjoyed, and the gratification I felt toward these two individuals cannot be put into simple words.
Kara looked on at me, and a few tears fell from her eyes. Quickly getting up, she ran away from the room.
Carlos shook his head, a sad frown on his face.
"Don't mind her. She is... Not well, you can say. Someone dear to her...died recently."
By the way, Carlos was speaking and Kara behaved, I could tell it was very recent.
"I-it's fine..."
The doctor nodded, his smile returning to his face again.
"What is your name, son?"
"J-Jace. My name...i-is Jace."
"It's very nice to meet you, Jace." The man took off his coat, holding it over his arm. "We have got a lot to talk about. But first, you must make a full recovery."
"A-are you...going to c-charge me?"
Carlos chuckled at my attempt to joke, making me smile.
"It depends. I hope you're rich." The man joked before his expression turned serious. "Still, that is something you don't need to worry about. Not anymore."
"W-what...do you...m-mean?"
The way he said it made my stomach churn in displeasure. Something is not right. I can feel it.
To prove my suspicions right, Carlos tried to give me an encouraging smile, but I could tell it was a fake one. Without saying another word, he too left the room, leaving me alone to ponder my thoughts.
The way Kara behaved... and the way Carlos talked, I think there is something fishy going on here. Why am I inside a house, and not in a hospital? As far as I know, I was inside the hospital before I lost consciousness.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not suspicious of those guys. If they wanted something from me, they could have taken it from my carcass without much issue. Instead, they saved me. The only feeling I have towards them is thankfulness.
But still, there is something they both were hiding. Where is that officer that pointed a gun at me before? The last time I knew, he was with Kara. Did he leave? Wasn't he speaking something about dead people? What was it?
Urgh, my head hurts. I will think about all this later. I should instead use this opportunity to sleep peacefully in this comfortable bed.

Aunt Suzen... I wonder what she is doing.
