In a far-off land called New York, there existed a small family residing in a narrow alleyway. Among them were three orphans - Dash, Henry, and Scarlet. Dash, the youngest and most impulsive of the group, bore a lightning bolt etched in his blond hair, which was as striking as his personality. Henry, the tallest, was a patient and logical soul, always carrying a book in his pouch. Scarlet, the fiercest, was not as reckless as Dash, but was the strongest of the group. Her unwavering spirit and determination made her an indispensable ally to her friends.
Scarlet and Henry were often the ones to bail Dash out of trouble, but they remained a tightly-knit group nonetheless. This tale chronicles the start of their first misadventure.
One peaceful night, the trio was scavenging for cool stuff and scraps to eat when Dash suddenly called out, "I found something, come quick!" Henry quickly left what he was doing, and went to Dash to investigate. He found Dash holding back laughter at his hurry to get to a stick.
However, as they turned to leave, Henry stumbled upon a rope that was hanging from the wall and inadvertently stumbled upon a concealed door. Dash impulsively darted inside, and Scarlet and Henry followed, intrigued by what they might find. As they entered, they discovered a long spiral staircase leading down into the depths of the earth. The walls were lined with cobwebs, and the air was musty and damp.
As they went through, it got darker, so they decided that they should not be there anymore.
They decided to depart, but the door was firmly shut, and they found themselves ensnared. With no other recourse, they descended down the spiral staircase, which seemed even more dark and ominous. They continued their descent down the staircase, unsure of what lay ahead, but determined to face whatever challenges came their way.
As they went down, the area suddenly started to get brighter. They continued, oblivious to the slow change in light. They reached the bottom, and found the biggest room they have ever seen.
They are greeted a slight breeze and the stench of wood polish, metal, and thousand of smells that they couldn't recognize. As they looked around, they saw hundreds if not thousands of clocks, sandtimers, and countless other time keeping devices, some of which had symbols that they couldn't recognize. They looked around to a circular room with countless levels, books covering the walls, and countless pathways branching off into the distance. "What is this," Scarlet asked as she saw a pile of metal spheres on a table. She touched one of the strange markings on it. Suddenly, with a loud creaking noise, the sphere grew legs and scuttled away. "Ahhhh," screamed Scarlet in surprise, "it's alive!"
"Don't touch anything, " Said Henry turning around to Dash, but he wasn't there. Henry looked around, and saw Dash's light gray shirt disappear through a pathway. "Dash!" Henry shouted after him, "come back," After what felt like hours through the maze of doors and clocks and books, they saw Dash standing in front of a giant medieval oak door. All three of them just might be able to reach the top.
"Do you see that?" Dash asked, pointing to the empty air. "See what," asked Henry looking around. "That line I was following,It's going to the door," Dash said as he pointed to the gigantic door that was in front of them.
Henry strained his eyes trying to catch a glimpse of the thing that Dash mentioned, but he couldn't get even a glimpse of it.
"Is it right here," Scarlet said as she touched the door. As she touched the door, it swung open. Suddenly, a blast of wind appeared forcing everyone through. They caught a glimpse of a blue sky, then everything went black.
