Chereads / Behind Her Façade / Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 4- THE DANCE

Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 4- THE DANCE

Heading towards the dance floor with Mr. Quinn, Emris felt the gaze of the guests on them. Placing his hands on her waist, Devin took hold of her right hand while her injured left was carefully placed on his shoulder.

Getting a clear view of his face, she saw that he was blessed with excellent features: eyebrows that arched towards his temples, long eyelashes like crow feathers, a high and straight nose bridge, and pale lips with a hint of coolness. His jet-black hair was styled to the side.

Emris couldn't help but feel a little heart-fluttered.

"You look gorgeous." he said snapping her out of her thoughts.

"Thank You, you don't look bad yourself Mr Quinn." Emris replied

Devin chuckled, "So, how's your hands Miss Emris?"

"It's fine, just a scratch Mr Quinn." Emris answered looking at her palm

"Just Devin, call me Devin." he continued

"Ok." She smiled at him.

Looking over, she saw Dawson dancing with his girlfriend, Samantha Crawford. He glanced her way, and Emris winked at him, making him smile. Turning her attention back to the man in front of her, she caught him staring deeply at her.

"Hmm, so you're the cold CEO of Quinn's Enterprise, if I'm not mistaken, right, Mr. Quinn?" Emris asked, trying to ease the awkwardness.

"Yeah that's me." Devin answered as he twirled her. He still couldn't pinpoint why she looks familiar to him.

Emris raised an eyebrow at his words. "Really, you don't look that cold to me."

Devin chuckled, "You should believe the rumors Miss Yales."

They danced for a while before the music came to an end. As they made their way towards Tyler, the sound of applause filled the air. Tyler ran towards them, demanding that Emris carry him. She obliged, lifting him carefully to avoid aggravating her injured palm. It wasn't the pain that concerned her, but she didn't want her family to worry.

"Emmy, you danced beautifully with my daddy." Tyler complimented

"Thank you little guy" she replied.

The three of them continued talking till Bryce came over to take her with him.

"Mr Quinn if you would excuse Emris and I." He said

"It was nice meeting you, Mr. Quinn, and you too, Tyler," Emris said to the father and son. She handed Tyler to his father and gave him a peck on the cheek.

"Let's go Bryce" she said hooking my hands to his hand

"Okay, I'm going to introduce you to some of my business partners," he said, nodding toward a group of men.

"But why?" She asked out of curiosity.

"Well they wanted to have a chat with the Yales daughter." he said and she chuckled at this.

"Oh well let's go then." She replied heading towards them with Bryce

"Hello gentlemen, meet my sister, Emris Yales."

"Hello Miss Emris." they greeted

"Hi" She replied

They continued discussing the Yales group, attempting to pry answers from her about her recent absence. Emris grew weary of their conversation and pleasantries but endured it to save face for her brother.

"Excuse me," Emris finally spoke, turning to face Bryce. She couldn't endure the company of the men any longer.

Recognizing her irritated expression, he understood she was tired. Without waiting for permission, he gestured for her to leave, while he continued conversing with the men.

"Is there something on your mind?" Emris inquired of Cecile as she approached, observing her grin like a child.

"What's with you and Mr Quinn?"Cecile asked

"Yeah, I heard that he doesn't like to approach women or even have a conversation with them." Celest chipped in

"Especially his son Tyler Quinn, who is really conservative and doesn't like to mingle with strangers." Cecile continued

"Oh, I didn't know that. I'm puzzled why the son allowed me to touch him, or why the father talked to me," she said, clearly shocked by this revelation.

"Oh girl, Mr Quinn might be smithen by your beauty." Eldoris squealed as she said

"And might be interested in you already." Celest added looking at her

"You guys should stop your nonsense. I'm sure it's because I kept his son company," Emris replied, shrugging.

As they continued their conversation, they noticed the party had ended and the guests were leaving. However, undeterred, they knew they would be the last ones to leave.

"Let's go Celest." Nathan Sullivan said to his sister as he motioned for her to follow, their parents trailing behind as they approached the girls.

"Hello, Uncle. Hello, Aunt," Emris greeted warmly as she approached her aunt, who lovingly caressed her hair

"Ah, Emris, how have you been, dear? It's been too long since I've seen your face," she said warmly.

"That's true," Emris admitted. She's been away from her family for seven years because of her studies and career. Apart from the occasional video calls, this is the first time they've seen her in person after so long.

"I'm fine aunt." Emris replied

"You should head home now and get some rest," her uncle interjected, patting her head. "You know you'll have a lot of work waiting for you at the office tomorrow."

"Yes uncle." She said as they left

"It's such a pity that Nathan actually took an interest in Chaya Smith," Cecile said, sighing.

"But now that he's seen her true nature, he won't get close to her," Eldoris replied.

"What about Chaya Smith, she might still throw herself at him." Cecile reminded

"I don't think that would happen because she would be busy as from now." Emris said as she smirked

"You really won't let her off after what she did right?" Cecile inquired

"Why not, she just made a mistake no need to rub it in." Emris continued.

If only they knew what she had in mind for Chaya.

"What are you guys talking about?" Dawson asked as he came over accompanied by Samantha.

"Hey Sam, how are you?" Emris asked as she hugged Samantha

"I'm good." she replied

The both of them talked for a while before Samantha went home.

"Bryce where's Miss Fausto?" Emris said looking around

"She went home with her parents."

"Okay, can you take me home? I'm so tired," Emris said, walking over to Bryce and resting her head on his arm.

"Bryce carry, I can't walk" She requested pouting

"Okay, Princess," he replied, chuckling as he carried her horizontally, her head resting on his chest.

"Spoilt brat." Dawson commented as he flicked Emris's head

"Hey that hurts." She grimaced holding her forehead.

"Hey what was that for." Dawson asked as he got a slap in the head from Xavier.

"Hey Bryce on a second thought I think Dawson should take me home." Emris said stopping Bryce from taking her out.

"Okay." Bryce agreed dropping her down.

"Come on kettle head let's go home." Emris said to Dawson making her way out of the hall

"You..." Dawson wanted to curse at her, but halted when he caught the eyes of his older brothers and parents.

"Ok fine let's go." Dawson said feeling wronged

Dawson guided Emris out of the hall and toward his Rolls Royce, courteously assisting her into the front passenger seat and ensuring her seatbelt was secure before settling into the driver's seat himself.

"You are driving?" Emris asked looking at him

"Yeah, you want to sleep so I have to drive and not delay using a driver." Dawson told her

Dawson continued, "So do you think he's the one, or it's just a coincidence."

Emris looked ahead of her, "No, he's not the one and there would be no need to investigate."

Dawson got speechless. "How do you know I would investigate?"

"I know you D, and there's really no need he's not the one. And am sure after today I might not even remember him."

"Alright then, I think you should take these if you're serious about getting some sleep," Dawson said, handing her the pills.

"Alright. So, does this mean you and Samantha Crawford are dating now?" Emris inquired of Dawson, moments after swallowing her medication.

"Yeah, she's the one I've wanted for a long time, and now I've finally got her," Dawson said with a grin.

"Good news! I'm gaining a sister-in-law soon. You should invite her over more often," she informed him.

"Hmm" Dawson answered.

"Are you able to go to the office tomorrow?" Dawson inquired, only to discover that Emris was asleep.

"That's a good thing." Dawson muttered to himself

Arriving home, Dawson glanced at his still-sleeping little sister. He gently lifted her from the car and carried her to the house, careful not to disturb her slumber.

As he entered, he motioned for a maid to accompany him as he headed towards the elevator, destined for the fourth floor. This entire level belonged to Emris, reflecting her modern and bold aesthetic. David Yale's children each had their own floor, a gesture to honor their privacy.

Assisting the young master in opening the door to the young miss's room, she lightly tapped her hands, causing the lights to illuminate the space.

Approaching her bed, Dawson gently lowered Emris onto the mattress, ensuring not to disturb her slumber, then turned his attention to the maid

"Remove her makeup gently and assist with changing her clothes. Ensure she remains comfortable throughout the process." Dawson instructed his gaze still on Emris.

"Yes, Young Master Dawson," the maid replied obediently as he exited the room and made his way to his own floor.

The maid approached Emris, completing her task with care and efficiency before exiting the room and switching off the light.
