Thunderous explosions where beginning to rock the golden city of Asgard, shouts for defensive positions could be heard throughout the city.
Smoke began to rise as buildings caught fire, the Dark Elves gave no quarter, they rained down an onslaught of laser fire into crowded areas, not caring if they were soldiers or civilians, man or woman, or even adult or child.
Seeing what was happening outside, Thor quickly joined in the battle, enraged that someone had the gall to attack his city, his home. Thor smashed thru a few ships, joining Heimdall in the defense of the outer perimeter of Asgard, he had to buy Heimdall time to activate the shield that protected Asgard from external attacks.
Odin too took action, he began to draw on his Odin Force to protect his citizens as much as possible, to also buy time for the full defense network to be activated.
The more Odin used his power, the more of a burden he placed on his body, a side effect of using most of his power to seal Hela. Even though Odin knew the more he used his power the longer his sleep would be needed, even so Odin didn't hesitate to use it to keep his people from being openly slaughtered.
A golden shield of light began to shine as Odin sat on his throne, he observed the ships with hatred as his shield began to cover much of Asgard. But this only caused the ships to increase their firing rate even more. Even so, the screams of pain, fear and death soon stopped, to be replaced with various shouts for retaliation.
The Asgardian defenses were soon brought online and various energy blasted were quickly fired back at the ships. The Dark Elves began to lose ship after ship, those that couldn't make safe landings began to make kamikaze dives onto the defensive towers, taking out multiple defensive towers.
Large troop carriers then began to descend from the Arc ship, Malekith and a small group of his elite warriors descended towards the palace, they had seen the shield around the palace raise after Heimdall activated the main shield.
Knowing that the only way to now enter the palace, he just had to wait for his inside man to bring down the shield. Prior to launching their attack, Malekith had turned on of his loyal followers Algrim into a Kursed, basically a super soldier.
In exchange for their lives, the Kurse Stone amplified their strength and durability massively, it was shown in the movie that once Algrim activated the Kurse stone that his strength was on par with Thor. This transformation would only hold for a time, it varied on a case by case basis, depending on the Dark Elf and how strong their will power was, eventually no matter what or who they would be consumed by darkness and die.
Malekith had sent Algrim to infiltrate a band of Marauder pirates that was attacking one of Asgard's realms, after he disguised himself, he purposely got himself captured by Fandral and Volstagg, members of Thor's Warrior Band, who were out defending against the pirate attacks.
Algrim was sent in to destroy the shield generator that protected the palace, once he was brought into the prisons in Asgard he awaited for the signal from Malekith, upon hearing the battle begin Algrim removed the Kurse Stone Malekith had placed within his stomach and crushed it.
Upon crushing the stone, the Kurse Stone melted and turned into lava, it then was absorbed in Algrim's body and even merged his disguise into his skin, turning him into a giant beast of a elf. Using his new found strength, he was easily able to escape his prison cell and began releasing all the prisoners, except one, Loki.
Loki had been placed within the prison after his failed invasion of Earth, even though he was no longer being controlled by Thanos, he still held a deep grudge towards Odin and Thor.
Loki didn't ask to be released, he just watched with a smile since he knew that this would bring troubles for his adoptive father and brother, he even directed Algrim to the shield generator, telling him exactly where to go. He hoped they would be able to kill Odin and Thor so he could then take his rightful place as King.
With the prisoners release, the palace became a chaotic mess, although the prisoners weren't very strong compared to the Asgardian guards, they still outnumbered them, and they had the element of surprise. Many had gained weapons after killing the guards, thus making it more difficult for the guards to bring order back to the palace.
Algrim used the distraction to sneak his way to the shield generator, he was able to quickly make his way through without being seen thanks to Loki's directions he provided. Upon reaching the power source for the shield, he was easily able to destroy it with a single punch.
A massive explosion once again rocked the palace as the generator exploded, the large white dome of light that covered the palace began to dissipate, this allowed the attacks onto the palace to once again begin to destroy large areas of the palace, killing many of the guards and prisoners alike.
Seeing what was happening, Thor's anger rose, but was soon chilled after seeing a massive explosion that hit close to where his mother stayed within the palace. That anger turned to fear and worry for his mothers safety.
"Go my Prince, I can handle things from here. You are needed elsewhere." Heimdall called over to Thor after he too saw that the shield had somehow been brought down, as he destroyed another ship.
"Aye, I shall send help as soon as possible." Thor responded as he began to spin his hammer to make his way back to the palace.
Thor flew over to his mothers room, upon arriving he witnessed Algrim and his mother battling each other, Frigga was slowly being over powered. Her magic could hardly damage the durability of a Kursed. Just as she was about to be seriously injured, Thor flew in and used his hammer to smash the unsuspecting Algrim through a wall, launching Algrim outside the palace completely.
Quickly he ran to his mother, "Mother, are you hurt?" Thor asked as he quickly looked her over.
A smile formed on Frigga's face, it warmed her heart greatly seeing the love and concern her son was showing, "I am fine my son, I can take care of myself just fine. Where is your father?" Frigga asked as she placed a hand on Thor's cheek in comfort.
"I do not know, still in his throne room I suppose. Mother, was that a Dark Elf?" Thor asked after seeing that his mother was fine.
Frigga's smile faded, she nodded her head as she gazed out the hole made by Thor when he launched Algrim away. "It was my son, one that has been Kursed. You must be careful against the Kursed, they are not very easily delt with. Especially newly created ones." Frigga explained as she began to walk over to where her armor was stored.
"But Father said the Night Elves were no more, that Grandfather killed them all. Is that who is attacking us now? The Dark Elves?" Thor asked, he had grown up to his mothers stories of the Dark Elves, so even though he had never seen one he had recognized the aura of darkness that emanated from Algrim.
"I do not know, it would seem that we are, you must go help your father my child, I will lead others to the safe house within the palace. I have a feeling that this battle will get much worse before it is over, your father needs you." Frigga answered as she began to equip her armor.
"I have called for help, don't worry mother, I will make these Dark Elves rue the day they decided to attack our home, and you." Thor said with a serious and determined tone.
Lightning began to arc within his eyes, now that he saw his mother safe, his anger returned, but now it was multiplied many times. He almost didn't make it in time, his mother could've been seriously hurt or killed, so now Thor was royally pissed.
Once he saw his mother fully ready, Thor summoned his hammer from the floor where his mother was almost was hurt, giving her one last look, which fed his anger even more. He wanted to release his anger on these Dark Elves like never before.
After Frigga gave Thor a reassuring smile and a nod, Thor launched himself from the balcony, lighting began to gather on his hammer as he flew forward towards a large group of dark elves that were making their way towards the palace.
Thor came down right in the middle of the group, smashing his hammer into the nearest dark elf, the hammer crushed the elf, turning him into a mess of flesh and blood, smashing thru the elf and hitting the ground. This caused a massive explosion of lighting that swept through the group of elves, killing some while injuring others.
This explosion got the attention of Malekith, who was in the front of the large horde of elves and leading the way into the palace. Malekith turned around to see Thor smashing his way towards him, a storm of lightning, elven body parts and blood surrounded Thor as he swung his hammer, killing all who were in his immediate vicinity.
Thor, seeing Malekith in the front, recognized him as the leader of this attack and made his way to take him out. He quickly and easily made his way through the elven army, the smirk Malekith showed as he cleaved his way through the army fueled Thor's rage further.
His vision was narrow, solely focused on Malekith, so when Algrim showed up and launched a surprise attack onto Thor, punching him square in the side of his head, Thor was too focused on his target so he never sensed the attack.
Thor was launched far from the palace, crashing through building after building, the strength behind that blow knocked Thor unconscious briefly. By the time he came too, Algrim was already on top of him about to launch another punch aimed at his head.
Just before Algrim landed the punch, Thor's instincts kicked in as he caught the punch with one hand then pulled Algrim towards him and headbutt Algrim in the face, then used his hammer to blast out a large lightning attack in an attempt to do as much damage as possible.
Thor had felt the strength of Algrim in that one punch, so Thor planned to heed his mothers advice and not take the Kursed lightly, he also still wanted revenge for the attack on his mother, so he left Malekith for his father Odin to deal with.
"Come foul creature, we have much to discuss, you and I." Thor said through gritted teeth, "Before I'm done with you, you shall regret the day you attacked my mother." As Thor moved closer, the sky began to darken as Mjolnir began feeding off the anger within Thor.
Thunder could be heard beginning to rumble in the distance as the clouds became thicker, but Algrim just smirked and then let out a roar of his own, he was confident and unafraid of Thor. Although the attacks hurt, especially when hit directly with the hammer, it wasn't anything he feared.
Algrim knew that as long as he was careful, he was pretty even with Thor as a Kursed, however the more damage he sustained the faster his life would end. He would be consumed by the Kurse Stone as it healed his injuries. It was the only way to kill a Kursed, do enough damage so that the stone would consume them faster, otherwise they would just keep coming since they were so durable.
Algrim charged in for the attack, he used so much force the ground cracked, a spiderweb of fissures left behind, seeing this Thor threw his hammer looking to try to end it quickly.
Just as the hammer was within striking distance, Algrim back-handed Mjolnir, deflecting it to the side and punched Thor in the gut. Thor had been caught off guard by the sight of his hammer being deflected, so he had been unable to dodge in time.
Thor had thought he had understood his opponent's strength, as the fight progressed he found it hard to effectively counter, it was taking his all to keep his vital areas protected.
Malekith, after watching his loyal follower suppress Thor and feeling confident in Algrim's victory, he turned his attention back to the palace, he began climbing the stairs up to the main entrance of the palace.
Reaching the top of the stairs, Malekith couldn't help but turn around and admire the burning golden city, although it was only a portion of the city that had sustained damage, he felt it was only a matter of time. After turning back around, his spirits high on confidence in their victory, Malekith threw a Black Hole Grenade at the large golden doors that led into the palace.
Right when the grenade went off, destroying the main doors, leaving a large, perfectly round hole, a missile slammed into Malekith's back. The explosion launched Malekith forward, thru the hole his grenades had caused, slamming into a pillar. His army that was behind him was swallowed in a sea of white hot fire.
Malekith struggled to get up, just when he looked back, a ship like none he had seen before was hovering in place, then he felt it, the Aether, he knew exactly where it was. Even though the ship that struck him took off, Malekith no longer paid it any mind.
Unknowingly his eye's were clouded slightly, "Midgard, fifth planet from the host star. The Aether calls for me. Asgard can wait." Malekith said as his eyes returned to normal, he released the signal to retreat. The Aether was more important.
