Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: Consequences

Earth, once a chaotic mesh for power, has been slowly adapting to the existence of the UEG. Fury and his ex-SHIELD personnel, now turned UNSC, haven't had it easy as Adam was expanding the UNSC out in the galaxy.

Although Adam's technology and knowledge of future events in the MCU had helped him provide adequate information to Fury to resolve many issues before they arise, there was one who he couldn't affect. In fact, Adam himself had no idea what the consequences of his actions were.

It is why many people wouldn't try to interfere with events on a large scale, especially in the Marvel universe, with every action, there is always an equal or greater reaction, or to put it bluntly, every action has consequences.

Nathaniel Richards, better known as Kang the Conqueror, a scientist from the 31st century. In his time, he discovered the existence of the multiverse and all the alternate universes, he even made contact with other versions of himself. All the other versions of himself were making the same discovery at the same time.

After establishing a stable connection with one another, all the versions of Kang began to share knowledge and technology with one another, they very quickly formed what they called the Council of Kang's.

The Council shared the goal of bettering their timelines together, however one of the Kang's saw the recklessness in what his variants were doing, it was spreading chaos across the multiverse, he saw the ultimate demise of the entire multiverse due to the collisions of the alternate universes they were inadvertently causing, these collisions would lead to incursions.

Incursion occurs when the boundary between universes erode and weaken by colliding with another boundary, this leads to one or both universes being destroyed.

Not wanting this to happen, Kang turned on his other versions and kick started what would be known as the Multiverse War, he dubbed himself Kang the Conqueror and began to conquer as many timelines and alternate universes as possible.

All the Kang's began fighting one another, they were working towards destroying all other timelines, leaving only their own as the final one. During these wars the Avengers had been killed numerous times in these alternate timelines, Kang had killed them so many times he couldn't tell one version of the Avengers from the other timelines or universes.

The Multiverse War finally came to an end when one of the Kang's weaponized Alioth, a sentient creature that Kang created using the various tears in reality caused by the war. Kang harnessed its power, thus becoming its master, he used the creature as a weapon, having it consume all other timelines, creating what Kang called the Sacred Timeline.

The Sacred Timeline was a collection of timelines Kang gathered and isolated them from the rest of the multiverse. He only chose universes that followed the same baseline events, each of those events all led to the birth of himself, keeping any alternate versions of himself from reappearing again, this would spark another war if it happened.

Thus the TVA, or Time Variance Authority, was established. Their task was to maintain and preserve the Sacred Timeline, they would prevent deviations, or Nexus Events, which would create new branches from appearing which would threaten Kang's rule.

The TVA was built outside both space and time, this allowed them to monitor the various alternate realities, if something or someone created a Nexus Event, they would capture whatever the cause and correct the error or change. These anomalies, which is what the TVA called individuals who caused these changes to occur, would be captured and sent into the Void, to be devoured by Alioth.

If the Nexus event was large enough TVA would prune the divergent timeline immediately, if it wasn't very large, they may leave it, then destroy it later if it diverged too far later on down the river of time.

Currently a middle aged man, with dirty blond hair, tanned skin, wearing a grey dress shirt and a brown suit with matching tie, was sitting at a desk rubbing his temples.

He was stressed, he was going through various files and documents, looking for the easiest way to fix a timeline that had completely deviated from what was supposed to be allowed. When TVA initially tried to enter the alternate reality to fix it, they were blocked somehow from being able to enter. So he was assigned the case.

Adam's actions had unknowingly created such a large Nexus Event, it had disrupted the barrier between itself and the various other timelines, locking them out temporarily from being able to enter.

Mobius M Mobius, the name of the middle aged man who was currently pouring through paperwork, was trying to find a way into this dangerous new timeline. Kang himself, had taken keen interest in this timeline, he had felt an ominous aura from this timeline when he attempted to interact with it.

He felt a keen danger within the timeline, but couldn't peer into it to see the exact point of divergence, his attempts at just destroying the timeline using Alioth had failed. Alioth was a sentient entity, although not very intelligent, it was a beast after all, but animals have a keen sense of danger. When ordered to consume the timeline, Alioth whimpered and refused, this had profound meanings to Kang.

This told Kang various things, although he didn't know for sure what the exact cause was, but he was sure of one thing, whoever caused the deviation has technology at least equal to himself. That made him believe that this deviation was being caused by a version of himself that somehow made it into a universe and began trying to restart the war.

Kang was partly correct but also incorrect in his assumptions, obviously he was incorrect about Adam being him, but he wasn't very far off. Like Kang, Adam was from the future, not as far into the future as Kang since the UNSC came from the 26th century.

Although there was roughly the same amount of time between the UNSC and SHIELD, roughly five centuries, the UNSC was from a different universe. A different environment than the Marvel one, Halo Universe overall makes Marvel look like a walk in the park. Or maybe a walk down the street at night in the worst part of your area maybe, Marvel did have omnipotent beings whereas Halo didn't, but Halo was a universe full of War.

After one war ended, within a few years a rebellion would arise, then another, constant wars. Although Marvel had Gods and Celestials, Earth rarely had any interactions with such beings. Even the Guardians of the Galaxy, who travelled across the galaxy, rarely ran into celestial beings.

There are wars in Marvel too, but they are spread out over decades or centuries from one another. Both World Wars, the Invasion of New York, Ultron, Civil War, Thanos and the Secret Invasion all spanned over many years, in between those large battles were years of relative peace. And that was just the Cinematic Universe.

The Marvel Comic Universe was a little more violent, but that was just due to the mutants as well as other organizations not found in the cinematic universe the Avengers movies are in.

What was blocking the TVA and Kang was in fact the slipspace engines aboard the Infinity, this is also what Alioth had felt and didn't like. Alioth was made from tears in the universe, a slipspace engine creates tears in spacetime, literally tearing the fabric of reality to travel long distances without actually moving.

So the slipspace engine was basically Halo's version of Alioth, but rather than it being sentient and turned into a weapon, the slipspace engine is used to manipulate space and time itself, to traverse outside the normal fabric in space.

This was why doing an unguided slipspace jump was so dangerous, while in slipspace you could pass right thru a planet, star, or even black hole with no need to steer or avoid, you were in between space thus not affected by reality. However, the issue is the exit, if you exit into a star, planet, inside an atmosphere or basically anywhere there is matter, that's where it gets deadly.

Matter can't travel in slipspace, it is sucked in and compressed and destroyed, ships are able to get around this because the engine wraps the ship in a protective bubble, this separates the slip stream from the matter the ship is made from. A ship can enter slipspace in an environment and not be affected, the planet or atmosphere after the ship left however would not be ok, the explosion caused by the large hole in space closing, matter would rush to fill in the void left by the tear in space, would be like dropping multiple nuclear bombs, same if the ship exits, but the exit is where the ship would be destroyed, since when it exits, the ship is no longer protected by the slip stream itself.

So as Mobius worked to get their forces into the new timeline, Kang himself was working to gain access as well, even after assigning the TVA to do the same, he had pondered on the issue for a long time and had finally come up with a plan to weaken whatever was strengthening the timeline's universal barrier.

Since the appearance of this new branch couldn't be stopped at the moment, Kang planned to use that to his advantage, there were several universes that were needing to be pruned, so why not use those alternate universes to attack and weaken the branch. Once he was able to resolve the deviation, it would eliminate those others he used as well, multiple birds with just one stone so to speak.

Kang searched thru the various timelines across the universe, various alternate universes within Marvel, universes such as Blade, Underworld, X-men, Electra, New Mutants, Venom. All were cinematic worlds, born from the Sacred Timeline, divergent paths, alternate universes.

These universes had run their course, Kang had already got what he needed from these universes, they were scheduled to be pruned already in the near future, now Kang felt that these universes could have one final use for him.

So Kang began his own work, he had to be precise in his calculations, if he didn't do it right, the alternate universe he tries to merge would just get crushed instead of merging, or bounce off colliding with another, thus destroying it and an unintentional one.

The multiverse was strange and unpredictable, although the alternate universes are separate, they also overlap each other. Places are the same, it's like if you take a map of a city, then take clear projection paper and place it over top, that's one universe, lets say that first clear page is Blade, then you stack another clear paper and write X-Men on it. Both universes have the same city and even the same people sometimes, but the worlds move at a different frequency, but they can occupy the same space.

Not every universe was this way, but many chosen to be in the Sacred Timeline shared this quality. They all shared many baseline events.

So Kang had to find the new frequency to Adam's universe, once he had that he could begin to subtly change the frequency of the others to match, and then Kang would have his merger. The confusion caused by the people merging with themselves could help create chaos within the universe.

Just imagine Captain America merging with one of his alternates, the Human Torch, if Kang chose to merge that Fantastic Four universe with Adam's, that's what would happen.

Or Killmonger could become the Human Torch, or Wade Wilson merging with Hannibal King, or Thanos merging with Cable, many examples of possibilities depending on which universe Kang chose.

Kang's tests, had been causing various anomalies on Earth, but most of these anomalies were small and unnoticed, it began with strange dreams for some individuals, some people had dreams of living other lives.

These dreams slowly progressed to more vivid ones, which in turn began to slowly shift the world, slowly mutants began to emerge. Vampires slowly began to awaken, to top it off the Inhumans also began to abduct people, using Terrigen Crystals to turn them into Inhumans.

Fury and his team had been resolving most issues thanks to the advanced tech they had access to, not to mention Fury's team not only had a Hulk, but three SPARTAN soldiers, Steve, Bucky and Taskmaster, who were supported by Clint Barton.

Vampire or Inhuman, once the Mjolnir armor locked on, there was no escape. Feeling something was going on, Fury had held off on calling Adam until he knew more, the Convergence was just around the corner so he felt no need to call for help just yet since they weren't exactly losing against these new creatures from myths.

Mobius had noticed many anomalies as he poured thru the evidence, it was why he wasn't sitting at his own desk but at the one located within the record department. He had noticed irregularities not just in the timeline Adam was in, but also in the response and actions taken by his organization, or at least Kang. Although Mobius didn't know of Kang exactly, he had noticed the signs of what was being done using TVA technology.

He felt something wasn't right, so he began working alone, as he poured thru the data, an idea sparked within him. He had been tracking an anomaly that had been able to jump across the multiverse much better than themselves, even though they were using their own tech to do so. His idea, which he knew was highly dangerous and stupid, but he felt if he could gain her help, she may be able to get them inside the universe.

It was the only way he knew how to get inside to find out what was truly happening. Taking a deep breath, to hopefully help feed his courage to follow thru with his plan, he began cleaning up the records as he devised his plan, hoping it wouldn't be the death of him.
