"so you gonna start explaining?" asked May, her eyes squinted
"ah..." Layna sighed "That's Liam and he... he helped me.... ummmm"
"what? clean your mouth?"
"May!!" Layna screeched, her face flushed "it's nothing of that sort .... I just fell and he caught me and we ended up.... we..." Her face reddened
"Awwww ...." May gushed "it's love at first sight.... and it happened in a garden... Oh Layna..... You should totally go for that guy, you both look so good together" She said with a dreamy expression
"Really?" Layna asked shyly
May's eyes widened as she stared at Layna in shock
"you're blushing..." it was more of a statement than a question"you're blushing Layna..... heck do you like this guy? I mean you guys just met.... or is this not your first meeting?" she asked with eagerness
"I.... I've liked him since first year" Layna stuttered
"Holy shit! This is... this... oh my God.... Just oh my.... So that's why you've turned down every other guy...." May said but her expression soon turned worried "Layna.... he might not like you... like the way you do.... he's a flirt with many girlfriends"
"I'll just stick to being friends then"
"Layna....." May sighed
"Don't worry I won't get hurt"
Over the next few months Layna and Liam got closer. One time they went partying Layna confessed to Liam in her drunken state but he rejected her thinking she won't remember when she was sober. Layna was depressed for days over his rejection but steeled her heart and pretended like nothing happened.
Today, Layna caught sight of Liam who was caught in the middle of a brawl between two girls. She approached slowly and confused when she was dragged all of a sudden. The next thing she heard was "This is my girlfriend" and her mind went boom.
~A few minutes earlier
Liam watched as two girls were arguing and claiming ownership over him.
"like wtf.... I'm not even dating any of you" he said annoyed
"Liam honey I know you're saying this to protect me from this raging bull" one of the girls said looking at him lovingly
"he's saying it to protect me from you" the other one argued
Liam helplessly pinched the space between his brows. He then noticed a familiar scent. He looked up and saw Layna then he dragged her towards himself. His hand around her waist he said,
"This is my girlfriend"
He looked at Layna and noticed how shocked she was.
"her name is Layna and I love her very much" he continued
Layna tried hard to concentrate on the present and play along but Liam's words kept clashing with what he told her that night.
As Liam helped the drunk Layna into the car, she caressed his face
"I thought I could stay friends with you..... but the more .... the more I know you ... the deeper I fall"
"Layna....." Liam sighed. He had noticed she had a thing for him and thought it would pass but obviously he was wrong.
"Liam I'm in love with you"
"I don't like you..... I could never love you Layna ...."
He watched as her eyes dimmed and she leaned back on the passenger seat and closed her eyes. His eyes turned red as he hypnotized her to forget that conversation.
~Back to the present
Layna clenched her fists tightly till her knuckles turned white. She didn't know why but her emotions were all over the place. The girls eyed Layna and left.
