Chereads / A BRIDE FOR THE ALPHA / Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 4

Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 4

The train traveled for hours and stopped at the park that led to Bridgerton in the evening.

I got down from the train and hired a help to take out the luggage from the train to a bus station.

I paid the fare and got into the car.

The car I hired soon started to move and drove towards the university.

I rested my head on the back seat and closed my eyes.

"Help, help, help me Leia, it was the voice again.

It stretched its hands out to me begging me to hold it.

My mind was in disarray.

Stop, stop, stop I said to the car driver, take this, I gave him an address and got down from the car.

You can drop the luggage at this location.

I ran away from where the car stopped and ran into a far distance.

The air was cool as there was a small river ahead.

I sat down on the grassy land by the river and stared into the water.

I had to figure out where the voice came from and I needed a silent place for that.

I closed my eyes again Hoping to hear it but nothing came.

I closed my eyes in frustration punching the ground.

I walked back and forth to the riverside and then caught sight of a body inside the river.

I ran over to the body and walked into the river to stop the body from floating.

My body was soaked but I didn't mind.

The man's face was one I'd never seen before.

He was just too breathtaking, his face and nose, his thin lips, and long eyelashes made my heart flutter.

For a moment I forgot what I was going to do.

I snapped back to thought and looked at his body in the water.

I was shocked by what I saw, his body was filled with bullets and his face looked lifeless.

I almost left my grip on him from his pale body.

I dragged him out of the water to the Riverside.

I was Lost out in what to do.

Ahh, I should perform CPR on him.

He wasn't waking up no matter how much I pressed his chest.

There was no water coming out from his mouth either.

His pulse was not showing any signs of life.

I sat back to the ground exhaustedly.

I had to try something else, he was too beautiful to die yet I thought to myself.

I stood back up and pressed my lips on his to aid artificial breathing.

You better wake up, you this beautiful young man, I'm giving you my first kiss, so you have to wake up.

I Bent down again and did artificial breathing again for him to wake up.

"Cough, cough cough, he coughed back to consciousness.

I was elated, he fluttered his eyes trying to open them.

"Hey, are you awake, can you see me, I said to him waving my hands in front of his eyes.

"You're, you, you,.."

He stuttered and fell back unconscious.

I Bent down and carried his heavy body on mine dragging him to the road to seek help.

"Someone help, somebody help, I shouted to seek people's attention."

There was no car on the road and I couldn't leave him alone like that.

I dragged him to the highway and then a car was driving towards us.

I waved my hands incessantly at him until they stopped in front of me.

"Help us please sir, this man is seriously injured and he needs to be taken to a hospital for immediate treatment."

The old man looked at me to make sure I wasn't one of the highway robbers.

He tilted his head at the man's body I was holding onto limply and finally agreed to help us.

"Get in the car, he said opening the car's door.

I dragged the man's unconscious body into the back seat and sat beside him putting his head on my lap.

I shook his body to wake him back up when the old man said to me.

"Stop poking him like that young lady, he's already injured as it is, and shaking him like that would only aggravate his wounds."

"Alright thank you, Sir."

"You might give him artificial respiration to aid his breathing."

"He sure liked artificial breathing a lot, I Bent down and placed my lips on his, performing artificial respiration for him."

His hands moved slightly and I pinched his nose, blew into his mouth for about 3 seconds, and took my mouth away from his releasing his nostrils to allow air to escape.

His chest rose and fell and there was a slight breathing sound from him.

I pressed my face on his nose to feel if he was breathing well.

His breaths stabilized after a couple of seconds and I was overjoyed.

The old man looked at me from the rear mirror and smiled at me.

"You did a good job girl."

We drove to the hospital and I rushed in to call the nurses over.

"I have got a patient in the car, he's seriously injured and he needs immediate attention.

A stretcher was wheeled outside to the car and the man was taken out of the back seat onto the stretcher.

He was wheeled in right away followed by the old man and I.

"You can't go in the ICU, wait outside, or seat on that bench, a nurse said to me.

The old man walked up to me and sat me down on the bench.

His care reminded me of my father, I already missed him.

"He's going to be fine young lady, is he your husband, you seem to care much about him."

"No, no, no gramps he's not."

"Your lover or your boyfriend then"

"No gramps he's not, I barely even know him."

The old man smiled teasingly, "

I see a future of you and him together though."

I took another look at him and paid no more attention to what he was saying.

At that moment a nurse came outside with a worried look on her face.

I scurried over to her.

"the patient has lost a lot of blood and needs a blood transfusion immediately.

"I'll give him my blood."

I said to the nurse without hesitation.

"What's your blood group," the nurse asked

"I'm a universal donor, blood group O."

"Alright wait here, I'll take your blood sample to the laboratory for a rare before the transfusion."

"Sit back down gramps, it'll be too tiring for you to stand like that."

I held his hands and sat him down on the bench while I waited for the nurse to come back.

She came back with a tube in her hand and took a sample. of my blood into the tube and turned to go.

"Sit down young lady, it'll take some time for her to come back."

I sat back down on the bench holding the old man's hand to soothe my nervousness.

"He's going to be a fine young lady."

I heard Gramps say.

"You can call me Leia Gramps, Leia Johnson."

"Alright Leia, he's going to be fine."

Soon after the nurse came in and asked me to follow her to the ICU.

"Will you be here when I get back Gramps, I asked the old man I'd suddenly found a liking to."

"I'll wait here for you Leia, you can go now."

I then turned back and followed the nurse to the ICU.

I entered the room in a sterile suit and saw the Young Man with dressings all over his body like a mummified body.

The bullet in his body had been taken out and it left holes in his body.

I wondered what type of accident or fight was that made him have so many bullet's in his body.

"Is he alright nurse, I asked concerned."

"Yes he's fine, he's just lost a lot of blood."

You can lay on the bed beside him, anesthesia would be injected into you, so you might lose consciousness and feel dizzy after the transfusion."

"It's okay nurse I'm ready to"

I lay on the bed beside him and the nurse injected a needle into me after injecting me with anesthesia.

I soon fell asleep after the transfusion started.

I opened my eyes to utter darkness, the man in my dream was no more there and I could see the chains that used to be in his hand broken down to the ground.

I felt relieved and smiled to myself.

The rustling and bustling of the nurses in the ward had woken me up from my sleep.

I tilted my head and looked at the man beside me.

"Is it you, I asked him talking to myself."

I fell back asleep with no qualms.

Next day I woke up the next day with a nurse beside me.

She was changing the man's wound dressings and I got to see how bad his wounds were.

There were about 8 gunshots on his body in different vital parts.

What kind of person was this beautiful man I saved?

The nurse treating his wounds stared at his face so much that she poured the solution for cleaning his wounds on his body.

"Can't you see what you're doing nurse, you're supposed to be focused on treating his wounds yet you kept staring at his face.

"I'm sorry Miss, I was just stupefied by his...".

"By his what, is that how you treat a patient of yours, stop staring at my husband or I report you to the hospital."

I paused when I realized I'd called a strange man husband, it doesn't matter anyway, I was just trying to protect him from those gazes of the nurse.

The blood transfusion had ended and I stood up to go outside, I pondered if Gramps was still here or had gone back to where he was supposed to be.

It has been a night and it was not arguable if he had gone back.

"If you dare to have any malicious or sly thoughts about my husband, I'm going to snap your neck, I said to the nurse like an obsessively jealous wife.

I then strode out of the room.

I walked to the bench I sat down on with Gramps the day before, he was gone, I sat down on the bench and thought about the day before.

Dad would have been so worried about me.

I stood up on the bench and walked to a nurse.

"Excuse me can I borrow your phone please."

"Sure ma'am, what for"

"I need to put a call through to someone real quick."

She took out her phone, unlocked it, and gave it to me.

I dialed Dad's number and it went through.

After a few rings, it was connected from the other side.

Hello Dad, it's me, Leia.

"Leia, I've been so worried about you, where have you been and what's happened to your cell phone."

"Nothing is wrong with my cellphone Dad and I'm perfectly Fine"

"You don't have to worry about me."

" How am I not supposed to worry about you, I'm almost on my way to Bridgerton to look for you, that's how worried I'm."

"I'm sorry for not being in touch Dad, but I'm perfectly fine."

"Tell me then why you haven't been reachable."

"I got hooked with someone who was involved in an accident here at the hospital "

"Oh that's so bad, is the person alright."

"Yes, yes he's, he's fine now, I didn't want to tell him about the blood transfusion or he'd be so much worried and leave Rockville to Bridgerton, and that I Don't want to happen.
