Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Woulda Loved Your Smile

[T. W.]

When Suzan spoke with her parents about school, the three of them decided it would be best for Suzan to stop going, and be homeschooled instead. They hired the best teachers for her that would come to their house every day, so Suzan wouldn't fall behind on her studies, and she would be in a safe environment.

The only place Suzan would be allowed to go was Emily's house, only when her mother was there. That was because Mr. and Mrs. Ellis were very worried about her. In her condition, they said that she always needed to be around grown-ups, in case something happened. And it wasn't like she minded, since, at that point, she had stopped caring.

Still, she was happy with how supportive her parents were,and how much they cared about her. She always knew they did, but they were showing it ten times more now. They paid her way more attention than they did before.

But there was this new thing that was about to go down, and that was the fact that she had to start spending time with Harry from now on. They agreed they were going to do it, and there it was. More like an obligation, it was not something either of them would enjoy.

Most of the times, Harry would go to Suzan's house after school and stay there for a few hours, then he would leave to go practice with his band or something like that, then he would go back to his place and do the same routine every day.

But it wasn't a pleasant experience when he was with Suzan. Somehow, no matter what they said or did, they would always end up getting in a fight. And every time, after the fight, they would sit on opposite sides of the couch and watch TV or scroll through their phones, giving each other the cold shoulder.

Molly was always there trying to help them work things out. But, looking at them sit like that on the couch, not even looking at each other, she was surprised to see how much they reminded her of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis. It was as if she could see the younger versions of them. Suzan had blonde hair and blue eyes, like Mrs. Ellis, and Harry had brown hair and green eyes, just like Mr. Ellis (even though Mr. Ellis' eyes were a mix of green and blue, still Harry looked a lot like him when he was younger).

And they would find all sorts of things to fight about. It didn't matter, even for the silliest reason. Suzan's hormones had already started kicking in, sometimes she was bothered even by Harry's breathing, and she'd always have mood swings.

Despite Harry's feelings not having changed about her -he was still angry with her for the way she had treated him- he'd always call her during school to see how she was doing, and after school when he was on his way to her house, to see if she wanted him to bring her anything. And every time, it would end up in an argument, through the phone. At that point, Harry didnʼt actually care that much how Suzan was doing, but she was the soon to be mother of his baby, and that's the only reason he cared.

~~~
"So, um... Can I ask you something?" Harry looked at her.
It was yet another day of them supposedly spending time together. It was after another one of their fights, giving each other the cold shoulder again, but this time, Harry took the initiative to speak, and without Molly's contribution.
"What?" Suzan looked back at him and placed her book down.
"How... how is it?" he asked.
"How is what?"
"Having a person in your belly..." he explained. For some reason, he seemed actually curious, as if he had thought about it in the past.
"Did you seriously ask this question?" Suzan raised her eyebrow.
"Yes. I mean, you know, I'm just curious..."
"Why? Are you planning on eating someone?" she asked him sarcastically.
"You know what? Forget it, I was just asking a question!" he growled and looked away.
"Well, what do you want me to say? That it's great and I definitely recommend it to anyone?" she rolled her eyes.
"I said forget it! If you're not capable of having small talk then I shouldn't even bother trying!" he shouted.
"Hey, I never said that! You just plain don't understand!" she shouted back.
"What in the world, guys?" Molly interrupted them as she came out of the kitchen. "I can't leave you alone for two seconds and you start fighting again? How am I supposed to make lunch, huh? And Suzan, you mustn't get upset in your condition so you two better stop it!" she scolded them both.
Well, at least they calmed down that way, but they went back to finding each other the cold shoulder. Nothing was fixed yet, because so was the day after.
And the day after that.
"No, I'm just saying you need to calm down!" Harry argued.
"Oh, I need to calm down? Look who's talking! You're not the one growing a baby inside you!" she shouted back at him.
❝𝓛𝓸𝓿𝓮 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝔂𝓮𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻𝓭𝓪𝔂, 𝓵𝓸𝓿𝓮 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓼𝓽𝓲𝓵𝓵. 𝓐𝓵𝔀𝓪𝔂𝓼 𝓱𝓪𝓿𝓮, 𝓪𝓵𝔀𝓪𝔂𝓼 𝔀𝓲𝓵𝓵.❞
"I'm also not the one who used you to get revenge on her boyfriend!"
"How long are you going to remember that for?!"
"Every time I look at you I remember it!"
"Guys, guys, not again! Stop it!" Mr. Ellis tried to stop them as she climbed up the stairs to Suzan's room, where these two were. She went instead of Molly this time, since she had come back from work.
"He started it!"
"Look, guys, you need to start getting along! I mean- You know what? You two are going for a walk! Come on, get out of here!" the woman crossed her arms.
Neither of them really seemed to like that idea and rolled their eyes.
"I thought you said I'm not allowed to be outside without any grown-ups!" Suzan protested.
"Well... Harry should be more than capable to take care of you, it's his duty as the father! Right, Harry?" Mrs. Ellis looked at Harry, who, unable to disagree with her, just nodded.
Suzan didn't like this idea at all, and not just because she didn't want to be around Harry. It was mostly because she didn't want to be seen outside with Harry, all because of Jason. She never knew where he could be hiding, and seeing her with Harry would confirm his assumption that he was the one she cheated on him with. And that would mean trouble. For her, and for Harry.
But still, Suzan hadn't told Harry anything about it, and it wasn't like she was going to do it either. This was her own problem, and she didnʼt want him to get mixed up. After all, he was already too involved in her life as it was, and, no matter how much he annoyed her, she didnʼt want him to cross paths with Jason.
From the look on Harry's face, it was obvious he wasn't really on board with the idea either, but he didn't say anything, he didn't need Suzan's mother to be upset with him. So, he just agreed to be responsible as a future father and take care of Suzan while they were out. But he was only doing it for the baby.
So, they get their jackets, phones and bad moods as they leave the house, aiming for the nearby park.
It was a small, friendly park near Suzan's house. It had a warm atmosphere and a nice smell of flowers that were planted all over. Many families would often go there with their children, it was a perfect little spot.
Their walk there was silent. They had nothing to say to each other, after all. They were only at this because they had to. They owed it to their parents, to at least try and get along.
They sat down on a bench next to a little pond. There were three small ducks in that pond, and a few kids were throwing bits of bread in the pond to feed them, while laughing and giggling around.
Suzan examined them, and examined their parents, how they were watching their kids pridefully. She couldn't comprehend the fact that she would soon be like those parents, watching her kid play in the park. But her future was way more uncertain than that. She saw two parents holding hands, looking sweetly at each other and smiling, proud of their kids. But she was never going to be like that with Harry, and she was sure. Because these two didn't love each other, unlike these parents. They were together only because they had to, and neither of them knew if it was going to last or not.
She couldn't take her eyes off these parents, she didn't even bother to mind if they had seen her or not. She was way too absorbed in her own thoughts, drifting far away in the future. Oh, how she wanted to be like them, how she hoped she would someday end up like them...
She felt something touch her hand. Something soft, like skin. She looked, and she realized it was Harry's hand, and resting on top of hers. Soft, gentle, like he always was. But she was surprised. Why would Harry ever willingly hold her hand? She lifted her gaze to look at Harry, but he wasn't looking at her. His gaze was deeply absorbed, pierced, looking at these parents as well, like she was. It seemed as if he didn't even realize moving his hand. God knew what was going through his brain.
But as soon as he realized, he removed his hand from hers with a quick motion, he didn't want to let his guard down, he was obviously uncomfortable.
"Sorry..." he mumbled awkwardly as he closed to himself, shifting slightly away from her.
Suzan didn't know if she minded or not, so she simply nodded as she started playing with her hair, not knowing what else to do. The atmosphere immediately became awkward after that little incident but they decided not to mention anything about it. It was better left unsaid.
The girl looked around for a second. She decided it would be best not to look at these parents anymore. So, her eyes traveled around, scanning the park with no particular intention. Just taking her mind off.
One of the little kids playing with the ducks approached them. She was a little girl about five years old, with blonde, curly hair and big, brown eyes, wearing a pink dress. She looked at both Suzan and Harry, looking impressed. She flashed Suzan a big, toothy grin.
"You are very pretty! Like a princess!" she squealed in a sweet, high-pitched voice.
Suzan smiled back at the little girl. "Thank you, but you are the prettiest princess!"
The girl smiled even bigger, staring at Suzan in awe. She looked adorable, she was radiating something magical to Suzan, it moved her.
"Really?" the little girl cheered.
"Yes!" Suzan replied, with an equally big smile. From the corner of her eye, she swore she could see the slightest beam on Harry's face as he looked at them.
Then, the little girl's attention shifted to Harry. "Are you her prince?" she asked, her tone matching her cute, innocent eyes.
But the two of them had no idea what to say. It was a simple question, coming from a kid, but how come they didn't know the answer? What was wrong with them?
"Mila! Leave them alone, honey!" the little girl's mom called out from where they were sitting.
"Sorry!" the little girl mumbled, disappointed as she walked away. But the disappointment didn't last much, since, in just a few moments, she was back with her siblings playing with the ducks.
"What a cute little girl..." Suzan mumbled, with a smile.
"Yeah," Harry said back, with the same smile. But they both faded quickly.
Suzan kept looking around. Once again, the two of them had nothing more to say, but at least, so far, it wasn't as bad as they thought.
Suzan was admiring the beauty of the park, breathing it all in. The plants, the ducks, the people, everything. It was the sweet break of relief she needed to get distracted from reality.
Suddenly her eyes stopped. They landed on a figure about sixteen-something yards away from where they were sitting. Around the park there were a lot of trees, and that figure was leading against one of them, lighting a cigarette. It took not but a close look to understand who that was. Jason.
She immediately started to panic. He turned his head around and looked at her. That look in his eyes was enough to scare her entire being.
"Uh... uh, Harry... Could you please just, um... get me some water?" she immediately said. She didnʼt want Harry to see Jason.
"Yeah, sure," Harry replied, not suspecting anything, and stood up. "You're not coming?"
"I, uh, I'll be fine..." she gave him a reassuring smile.
"Are you sure? I'm not supposed to just leave you alone," he told her.
Suzan could sense Jason approaching. "I mean it, I'll be fine."
"Alright," he shrugged with a sigh as he left to get her some water.
"You think Styles didnʼt see me?" she heard Jason's voice behind her, a few moments after Harry left.
"Jason, why are you here?" she turned around to face him, trying to conceal her fear.
He puffed up on his cigarette, with an ironic chuckle. "You know, I think you look much better with me than you do with him."
"You're the one who broke up with me!"
"And you're the one who cheated!" he hissed, leaning closer to her as he was about nine inches taller, towering over her.
"You cheated first!" she spat back at him with determination she had no idea she had in her.
"What did you say?" He grabbed her by the arm.
"Ow," she groaned in pain. "Stop it!"
"Alright, it doesn't matter. You'll come back to me and Styles is dead," he growled in her ear.
"Jason, let me go! Leave me alone! I'm not coming back to you!" she cried.
"Oh, yes, you are!"
"Hey!"
Their conversation stopped as they both looked at the source of the voice, which was the same little girl as before.
"Did you know she is a magical princess?" the little girl asked Jason.
Jason kneeled down in front of the girl, with a sneer in his face. "And did you know she's a whore?"
"What's a 'whore'?" asked the little girl, curiously.
"A very, very bad person," he replied.
The girl looked at Jason, then Suzan, then back at Jason. "I like the other prince better!" she crossed her arms.
Jason understood she was referring to Harry. "Well, that other prince is a bastard," he spoke, bitterly.
"Jason!" Suzan exclaimed.
"Mommy, what's a 'bastard'?" the little asked her mother who was approaching.
"Sweetie, where did you hear that word?" said the mom.
Before the woman got to them, Jason mumbled in Suzan's ear again, "Don't get too comfortable, you'll see me again," and ran off.
"I am so sorry, she usually doesn't act like this," the mother apologized to Suzan as she picked up her daughter.
"It's okay, ma'am. You have a lovely little girl," said Suzan, then soon walked off to go find Harry.
At that point she was terrified, constantly looking over her shoulder, worrying Jason might be behind her. It was like an obsession at that point, always thinking he was after her.
She was too busy looking around her, looking for Jason that she didnʼt notice Harry in front of her, and bumped into him. He was on his way to go back to her.
"What the heck, Suzan? What got into you?" he asked, seeing the terrified look on her face.
"It's... nothing, let's just go home..." she begged.
"Why? What happened to you?" he asked, curious about her startled look.
"Nothing! I just want to go home!"
Harry understood she wasn't going to tell him anything else, so he just gave up and started walking home with her.
Between them, it didn't go as bad as they thought it would. But what Harry didnʼt know, for Suzan it went worse than she would have thought. Still, she tried to calm herself down so nobody would ask her what was happening. She needed to keep it quiet.
Later that day Harry left and Suzan's friends came to visit, like they had often been doing lately. They wanted to check on their friend and see how she was doing, now that she didn't go to school anymore and wasn't allowed to go out. They didn't want to lose touch with her, especially during one of her hardest times.
~~~

Another day. It was still March, like when Suzan found out about her pregnancy. It somehow seemed like the longest month of her life, so much had happened. Constant threats by Jason, always trying to hide everything.

Suzan and Harry were, again, in Suzan's house. It was a bit later than usual, but Harry didnʼt have anything else to do that day so everyone thought it would be better if he stayed there some more, instead of leaving again. Suzanʼs father was working late hours and her mother was having dinner outside with a client.

That noon, there was a storm out. The rain was pouring, but it wasn't just that. There was lightning too, and Suzan was terrified of lightning.

It was as if the Gods were angry and they chose to let it all out that particular day, the thunder hitting the sky like a whip. Every new strike made Suzan flinch and want to burst into tears.

"You alright?" Harry noticed how she didn't look okay.

"Um... Could you excuse me for a second?" she took a deep breath as she looked down.

Of course she wouldn't admit to Harry (of all people) that she was afraid of storms. She didn't want to give him a new reason to judge her, which she was pretty sure he would if he knew about her fear. Instead, it was way easier for her to just climb upstairs to her room and bury herself under her covers.

That was what she did every time. If there was one thing she missed about Jason, that was how safe he made her feel when she was scared of things like storms. Then again, he couldnʼt make her feel safe when she was scared of him, but that was a whole other story. But now she didn't have Jason, all she had was her huge teddy bear, which served exactly the same purpose. She would just dive under her covers and hug her bear closely so she wouldn't feel afraid anymore. She wasn't proud of herself for that, the fact that she still needed a teddy bear so she wouldn't be afraid of storms, but it wasn't like she went around telling people about it.

Bang.

Another strike of lightning. Another flinch, and she cuddled closer to her bear.

Bang.

But what she didn't realize was that Harry was standing right there, leaning against the doorframe, watching her. And he would never admit it, but he didn't like seeing her like that. Only because he was carrying his baby, though, right?

"You sleep with a teddy bear?" he asked her.

Suzan flinched once again, but not because of lighting this time, but because of the sudden sound of his voice.

"None of your business, give me a break!" she rolled her eyes as she subconsciously pushed the bear away from her, convinced he was going to laugh at her.

But he didnʼt.

Instead, he approached her and went under the covers with her, laying beside her. He wrapped his arms around her protectively, but gentle as Harry had always been. Suzan was surprised, she could have never expected Harry to do such a thing for her. And he did make her feel safer, just like she felt with Jason.

"It's okay to be afraid of storms, no need to hide it. I'm afraid of fireworks," he admitted in a mumble.

Suzan was still surprised by the intimacy and couldn't help but wonder why the change all of a sudden. But she realized it had to be for the baby. No, there was no way he actually cared about her, and he was right in that, she didn't expect him to just forgive her. But still, she didn't mind, as long as it was making her not scared (which she knew would affect the baby as well).

"How are you afraid of fireworks and not storms? They're similar..." she replied.

"I don't know. I guess sometimes we just have fears that we can't explain..."

Bang.

She flinched, and he held her closer to him. She was practically shivering, and buried her face in his chest.

"There, there, don't worry. You're safe..." he assured her.

And his reassurance worked for her, she instantly felt better. Her heartbeat became even again, somehow synchronized with his. She wasn't scared anymore, Harry was there. But, if that moment was perfect, how was she so sure that it wouldn't last, even though she really wanted it to?

They didnʼt speak more after that. The silence was only interrupted by the strikes of lightning, but no more words needed to be said. There was the mystery, what did this moment mean for them? But, at that point, neither of them wanted to solve it.

Once the storm was over, Harry left. Everything was left unsaid, but it was for the better. Slow steps, that was it. Perhaps they'd be able to work it out after all.

The following day was the exact routine as always. Suzan wakes up alone, having to deal with her morning nausea alone, the teachers come for her lessons, she receives a -very awkward- call by Harry, the teachers leave, another call from Harry asking if she wanted anything and he was on his way.

As she was waiting, her phone vibrated when she received a text message. She supposed it would be from one of her friends, so she looked at it. But it was from an unknown number.

'Come out in the front yard.'

Suzan gasped. Somehow, she knew who that was. It was Jason. Of course. Her fear started rising again, he was obviously outside her house. He wasn't going to leave her alone, that was for sure. But what if anyone saw him? She needed to convince him to leave.

She briefly told Molly she was going around the garden for a walk, and cautiously walked out of the house, scared as ever. Jason was behind a bush, smoking a cigarette once again. But he looked different. It had just been a couple of days since she'd last seen him, but there was something off. He had really bad black circles under his eyes, his face had started looking somewhat distorted, he was pale as a ghost, his hair and clothes were all messy and he had that specific look in his eyes; the same look he had when he was high or drunk.

"What are you doing in my house?" she whispered-yelled, soon as she went close to him, still keeping her distance as much as she could.

"We didn't finish the other day," he casually replied, his cigarette in his lips.

"We have nothing to say!"

"Yeah, we do," he scoffed with an evil smirk.

Before Suzan could react, he pulled her closer to him by the arm and held her against his chest from behind.

"Let me go! I will scream!" she warned him, even though she didn't even believe it herself.

"No, you won't," he chuckled, knowing damn well she was way too scared to do that.

Still holding her tightly, he lifted up her shirt a bit to reveal her belly, and placed his hand there, like he was trying to feel something.

"So it's true then," he harshly let go of her, "You're pregnant."

Suzan had no idea where he heard that from, but she supposed there would be a lot of rumors going around as to why she had stopped going to school. And about her belly bump... She was only about six weeks pregnant, she didn't have a bump yet. Sure, her stomach wasn't entirely flat like it used to be, but it wasn't visible at all. And she had no idea how Jason felt anything.

"How do you-"

"How do I know?" he snapped. "Doesn't take a scientist to figure it out! You dropped out of school, Styles has been coming to your house a lot lately, and now your stomach is different!"

"Jason, I-"

"You're too young to have a baby. So, simple as that, you'll get rid of it and we'll get back together. And you won't have anything left of that fucker," he told her, referring to Harry.

"No, Jason! Don't you understand that we are over? You have to leave me alone!"

Jason spat out a malicious chuckle as he put his cigarette on his fingers. In just a matter of seconds, it was touching Suzanʼs forearm.

The girl tried to scream but she couldn't. She felt her knees weak as the pain on her arm was insufferable. The burn, his tight grip on her wrist, it all made her double over. But her voice couldn't come out, it was all absorbed in that very burning sensation. A tear rolled down her cheek.

"Think about it," spoke Jason as he lit up the same cigarette once again and put it in his mouth. "When I come back we won't have to do this the hard way."

And with that, he somehow managed to jump over the high fence and run away. There was something weird about the way he stood, the way he walked, the way he ran. He seemed a lot weaker, and he was almost stumbling. But Suzan didnʼt have the power to think about that. All she had left was that burn mark his cigarette left in her forearm, the sickening, straining pain and her tears running down.

She tried to pull herself together as she wiped her tears and stood up. She always had to be his victim. How come she could never defend herself against him? How did he always manage to have the upper hand? She regretted every second she ever spent with him. She regretted going to that damned party where she met him. She regretted everything.

She walked back inside and went to get herself a glass of water, trying to breath stably again. She needed to calm down, because she didn't want Molly to see anything and because Harry was on his way to come.

Well, jinx. That exact moment, there was a ring on the doorbell, and Harry had arrived. She took a deep breath and opened the door for him -she was closer to the door than Molly was- and she saw him. But he looked rather angry, irritated. She stepped aside so he could come in.

"Why was he here?" he asked. Not saying 'hi', not anything else. Just that.

"Who?" asked Suzan, trying to play innocent even though she knew he was talking about Jason. She supposed he had seen him walk away.

"Your ex! Jason! What the heck was he doing here?" he yelled.

That wasn't jealousy, it was obvious. It was something between anger and worry. Jason didnʼt have a good reputation, it was normal for Harry not to want him around Suzan when she was carrying his baby.

"You don't understand, Harry. Just let it go!" she replied to him. Things were getting worse with Jason, but she didnʼt want him -or anyone else- to know anything about it.

"Then help me understand!" he yelled. "I won't just let it go, it doesn't work that way!"

"Harry, I really don't wanna talk about this, just stop!" she shouted back, avoiding eye contact with him.

"Suzan, you can't just be selfish like that! If there is something going on and you're not telling me, you're not just putting yourself in danger! You're putting the baby in danger too!" he kept on his yelling, clearly angry.

"There is nothing going on!"

"Then why was he here?!"

"I don't know!"

"Right! I'm not stupid, Suzan!" He took a step closer. Suzan subconsciously stepped back.

"Stop it, Harry!" she cried. She wanted to cry again, he was scaring her. But she had been too much of a crybaby lately, and she knew it. Then again, she always was.

"Suzan, you-" suddenly he stopped, his attention shifted to her forearm.

And then, he saw it, the burn mark, it looked pretty bad. And he got angry. But it wasn't just anger, it was way stronger than that, a new feeling he had never experienced before. Like anger, but to the maximum. He grabbed her arm and took a closer look at it, understanding what it was.

"What the heck is this?" he asked as quietly as he could with all that rage boiling in his chest.

"Nothing..."

"WHAT THE HECK IS THIS?!" he screamed at her as he stepped dangerously closer at her.

But that scared Suzan even more. At that point, it was like Harry had disappeared from in front of her, it wasn't him anymore. In his place, she could see Jason instead. All like a flashback... He is screaming, and stepping closer to her...

Her first reaction was to put her hands in front of her to protect herself from a hit. That was what always happened with Jason. When he was angry and stepping closer to her like that, he'd always hit her. And now it was like Harry was doing the same. She didn't even realize how fast she put her hands in front of her, but she did. She didn't even have time to ask herself if she really thought Harry was going to hit her. It all happened in a flash.

But he didn't hit her. Instead, he snapped out of his fit as he realized, that wasn't like him. It was like he was in some sort of trance, hypnotized. And his reaction helped him see that. Harry would never be able to yell like that to anybody. He would never be able to scare somebody like that. But her reaction helped him understand there was more than just his yelling. Suzan had been through a lot already, stuff that he couldn't even think of. And maybe that was why she was afraid to open up to him.

It wasn't just that, though. His own reaction scared him the most. He had no idea what caused him to act like that, where had all that anger come from? And what if he hadn't been able to snap out of it on time? What would his anger cause him to do?

He took a step back, a startled look on his face. He couldnʼt believe it, he couldn't believe what had just happened. All this tension between them, all this anger, it was scary.

Suzan slowly let her hands down when she realized Harry wasn't going to hit her. But she couldn't read the expression on his face. He looked shocked, he looked scared too. And she didnʼt understand that.

"I... I'm... sorry..." he muttered, almost too startled to speak.

Suzan didn't reply to him. Her heartbeat was unstable again, beating like a drum set. She felt a weird sensation in her stomach, and placed her hand there, worriedly.

"Are you okay?" Harry asked immediately, frightened.

"Yes..." she managed to let out a whisper as she took a sip of water.

Harry sighed. He did that to her. He was the one who just put his baby in danger. He shouldn't be close to her. If he was a threat to his own baby, he had to distance himself. How could he have ever thought that it would work out between them? They were destined to fail, they could never be together...

"Suzan, I... I am sorry, I don't think this is going to work..." he spoke, avoiding looking at her. "I think... I think we should just talk to our parents and see what we can do but... I don't think we should keep up with this..."

And he truly believed that. He was determined, that was the right decision. They could never be together, let alone make a family. They needed to somehow compromise when it came to the baby, and that was it. And Suzan somehow agreed. She knew they weren't going to last.

Harry soon left. And they both let the river run. Harry did on his way back home, and Suzan did on the couch. They both let their tears fall like the rain. Somehow they had managed to get themselves all tangled up in a situation they couldn't handle. And nothing would help.

Molly came back inside from the backyard she was cleaning. She saw Suzan crying and immediately ran to her, asking what had happened and why Harry hadn't come yet, not knowing she had just left.

But Suzan didnʼt reply. She just collapsed in her hands, crying like there was no tomorrow.
