Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Aiden & Alex

When the bell finally rang to signify the end of the day, the students thanked their teacher for the lesson and scurried out of the classroom like chickens with their heads cut off.

Their teacher nodded to each student, giving each one a smile, and closed the door behind after the last one had left.

Looking at the rows of empty desks, he let out a loud breath full of countless tumultuous emotions.

Rolling up his sleeves, he sat down behind his desk and began to boot up his equipment.

It didn't take long for a number of holoscreens to pop up, and he quickly logged into them.

His fingers ran across the keyboard at lightning speed, and didn't stop moving until the sun began to peek over the trees.

Silently watching the budding day through the clear panels in the walls, the hard-working professor decided to pack up his things.

Pressing a few buttons, the screens started to shrink and condense until it landed in the palm of his hand in the form of a small black 4-pronged star earring stud.

Quickly sliding it into the second piercing on his left ear, right behind a long, black sword earring, he stood up and walked to the front of the classroom.

To the left of the black board was the door to his private office.

There were no cameras in this room.

It was one of his conditions for allowing them to film in his classroom.

Once the door was firmly closed and locked, a light blue pulse of mana swept around the room.

Certain that the agreement had been followed, he nodded to himself in satisfaction.

On his right hand, pitch black claws began to form. After a few moments, he swiped them at the space in front of him, and a large white portal appeared.

He did not hesitate for a second to jump in.

The other side of the torn space greeted him with great familiarity and warmth.

The light colored walls and dark brown furniture. The climbing greens of the plants on the window sills. The back wall's maze of cat towers. The boy playing a racing video game upside down on the couch.

"Hey, Aiden." The boy said.

"Sit up." The professor replied.

The boy just growled, ignoring him.

The professor walked by, smacking his bare foot with his hand. "Sit up before you choke on your stupidity."

The boy shouted angrily and shot an accusatory glance. "Why are you so mean to me?"

"Only because you deserve it," he replied emotionlessly.

"Tsk." The boy scoffed and sat up. "Whatever."

The brothers sat next to each other on the soft brown couch, and after a few moments, the younger couldn't help but speak up, "what's for dinner?"

"Dinner should have happened hours ago, Alex. It's 6:30 in the morning."

Alex froze. "…Aiden." He started tentatively, "what day is it?"

Aiden paused and turned to his brother, "Tuesday. Why?"

All of a sudden, Alex turned into a blur.

The game was shut off and saved within moments, and he disappeared from sight within seconds.

He stuck his head out from his studio door, "I'll talk to you later, Aiden! I've got projects that were supposed to be done 3 days ago. Say hello to Gaia for me tonight; I won't be able to make it!"

Aiden sighed as his little brother slammed the door with a loud thud.

Alex, stupid as always.

After fiddling with his phone for a few moments, he decided to get some breakfast.

Reaching into the freezer he pulled out a bacon, egg and cheese croissant sandwich and threw it into the microwave for two minutes.

During that time he went to his bedroom and pulled out a few boxes of items from the drawers embedded into the walls and placed them in his soul for safe keeping.

After eating his fix, taking a shower and changing his clothing, her ripped another hole in the space in front of him, and entered it.

When he surfaced into reality once more, he was back in his office.

After fixing his tie and rearranging his hair, he left his office and went back into the classroom full of students.

As if on que, the bell rang the moment he opened the door and he stepped up to the podium.

"Hello everybody. Today will be a day focused primarily on the sixth sense."

The class groaned internally.

Their beloved professor provided a once-in-a-million-years grin, showing off his canines.

"We will be practicing today with three senses missing. Your sense of sight will be removed via blindfold. Your sense of touch removed via an array, and your hearing will be restricted with the help of a special pair of ear plugs."

The students felt like crying.

There were only five senses that they knew how to use anyway. Touch, sight, and hearing were already gone, but taste and smell were still here. How were they supposed to train?? We're they supposed to smell their opponents coming?

Actually, for some, that was their plan. As a classroom full of hybrids— half human, half beast, many possessed a very powerful nose.

As for the others?

Well, all they could do was hope and prey that they didn't meet one of such opponents in the arena.

"Well then, have you all logged into your system?" The scheming professor asked.

The students nodded.

"Perfect. Then, the hunt starts now!"

All of a sudden they felt a fabric over their eyes, a cold stone-like object in their ears, and a wave of mana that ripped away their ability to feel physical objects pass over them.

The inability to touch was an incredibly unique sensation.

It was both frightening and exhilarating to the majority of the students.

The rest were simply terrified.

Most of them, however, were aware that they were under an array in a controlled environment with likely one of the most powerful people in the world, and knew they had their safety guaranteed.

Still, it instilled a sense of gratefulness within them, swearing to always appreciate the simple ability to touch, to hear, and to see.

It was not something everybody possessed, yet it was one thing that they never bothered to be grateful for.
