Chapter 17 - chapter 17: Ryan

"How strange," kero whispers as he examines my mark.

"No shit," I growl out. This was a waste of time. I needed to get Nox home and get off to battle.

"I've heard stories of omega's marking their alpha's, but I never thought it was possible," he shakes his head slowly and prodes at the tender meat of my throat.

"What were you two doing when it happened?"

"We were mating," I grumble, a light blush tinting my cheeks. Kero nods slowly and touches the spot again.

"It could just be that he bit too hard and that's what we're seeing here. We'll have to give it time to heal to find out. Take this antiseptic gel and clean the area twice a day before applying it. Keep the wound covered during battle, you don't want it to get infected because it will likely kill you," I nod and shove the gel into my bag. "Now, should I look over Nox?"

"What for?"

"You said you two mated? Don't you want to know if your seed took?" Kero looked over at the omega that was standing behind me.

I pause. "The medic at the palace said it didn't," Kero hums as he looks over Nox. The omega was leaning against the wall, eyes closed and hands settled over his stomach. Stupid omega, there was nothing there to protect, the medic said so.

"They could have been wrong, you know. But I won't press the matter. While you're gone, would you like me to check up on him? Bring him food and such?" I bite my lip and look at the omega. He'd never shopped on his own.

"Just once. Show him how to shop for himself," Kero nods. "Thank you. We'll be going now," another nod from the doctor and we're being walked out. Nox takes my hand instantly and smiles up at me. I look away from him.

"Good luck in battle, Old Friend. Perhaps we'll see eachother there," I nod. It wouldn't be the first time Kero was called to help save the poor souls who'd been injured fighting for their king. I pull Nox's hand and we return to the forest path that would take us back to my cabin.

"When we reach town I will gather groceries. You will go to the cabin and wait for me, do you understand?" Nox nods, head bowed.

"Of course, Ryan," Nox slips his hand out of my own and holds his cloak tighter around himself. He must've been getting cold. My hand retreats back into my cloak. In the four days it takes us to get back to town, we do not speak. My mind was in other places. Nox just wouldn't understand. I just needed to get him somewhere safe. Talking was not necessary for that mission. When we finally arrive back in my village, I stop in the market and Nox continues to the cabin without a word. I huff at how rude he was being, but don't bother saying anything. Instead, I focused on getting food that would last a while that he could eat while I was gone and until Kero came to teach him to shop. I would've done it myself, but I was on a time crunch. I didn't have time for the omega to waste by being indecisive or clueless. Once everything was purchased, I returned to the cabin and put everything away. From there, I change into my armor and gather my weapons.

"You're leaving tonight? I thought you were going tomorrow?" Nox says from behind me, his voice soft.

"No time. They need me out there as soon as possible," I say without looking back.

"You told the king you would be there in two weeks time,"

"Travel may be long, it's best to leave as soon as possible so I can get there on time,"

"Oh… I guess I hoped we would have one more night together. Just in case…" he cuts himself off, his voice going watery.

"We had my rut. I'll be back once the fighting has died down," I turn to face the omega. His gray eyes looked like raining storm clouds with the tears leaking from them.

"Don't cry. Have faith in your alpha that I will return," he nods and wipes his tears away.

"I'm sorry. It's just that something feels off about this whole situation," I sigh and gently touch his cheek.

"Don't think about it. Things will be fine," I press a kiss to his forehead and walk past him to the door. "Good bye, Nox,"
