Chapter 3 - Encounter at the Brink of Death

Bai Syoaran traversed the forest with a heavy heart.

He was humiliated and disowned by his own parents forcing him to find his own way.

Bai Syoaran clenched his rusty sword tightly and carefully sneaked through the forest like a rabbit.

The forest was infamous for being extremely dangerous. Only those who had reached the 3rd stage of the body tempering realm would have the qualifications to enter, never mind a young boy in his early teens.

Roar! Awooo!

The sun was quickly setting and Bai Syaoran knew that he had to find shelter for the night or else he'd be killed by the cold before the beasts even had a chance to.

The initial part of the forest wasn't that intense so he could still survive so long as his instincts were sharp enough but the deeper one went the more terrifying the beasts would become.

It wasn't even an uncommon for someone to run into a demonic beast which was comparable to the Qi Refinement realm cultivator.

Only when one had reached the Qi realm could they be considered to have stepped on the path of cultivation.

Bai Syaoran climbed a tree to get a better view of the forest but couldn't see much because it was already night-time and he was not a cultivator.

Fortunately, he could still sport a vague outline of a cave not far away so he ran towards it.

The cave was large on the inside and didn't have any dangers hidden within. It had been such a long day so Bai Syaoran curled up into a ball and hugged his knees to generate heat and closed his eyes to sleep.

In the middle of the night under the large moons radiance a shadowy figure appeared from the sea of trees. Basked in twilight the figures fur lit up and exposed it beauty. It was actually a ferocious wolf.

Ferocious wolves were demonic beasts that were in the Qi Refinement Realm and are known to travel in packs.

Beasts that could cultivate were known as demonic beast.

Demonic beasts lived in the inner regions of the forest since the spiritual energy was denser there and there were plenty of natural treasures so it was rare for one to appear so far from its territory.

The ferocious wolf growled in pain with every step that it took as blood flowed out of hit wound and trailed behind it.

The wound was in the shape of claw marks. The wound was so deep that even the bone underneath was exposed.

The ferocious Wolf staggered side to side weakly and entered the cave only to find a young boy already occupying the cave.

The ferocious wolf was momentarily surprised then it was overjoyed, to think that a meal would appear before it just as its stomach was growling.

Grrr!

Hearing its stomach, the ferocious wolf pounced at the young boy.

The young boy's keen senses jolted him awake and he instantly grabbed the rusted sword to block the incoming attack. The young boy's luck was truly terrible, to think that he would be attacked by a demonic beast on his first night in the forest.

There was no chance of escape so he had to fight. The leaping ferocious wolf felt a terrible pain from its wound when it made large movements causing it to bleed profusely as its attack lost its momentum and its power drastically dropped.

Although the attack contained only 1/3 of the ferocious wolf's power it was still like facing a falling mountain with a stick to the young boy.

The young boy was naturally Bai Syaoran.

The in a few seconds the ferocious wolf had closed the distance between them and swiped its paw at Bai Syaoran.

Clang!

Boom!

The ferocious wolf's sharp claws collided with the rusty sword. There was no suspense in this battle as the sharp claws shattered the rusty sword into pieces upon contact.

With nothing left that could protect him Bai Syaoran took the blunt attack sending him flying.

Boom!

Bai Syaoran crashed onto a wall and coughed up a mouthful of blood, although his body felt like fainting he knew that if he closed his eyes then he would never again open them.

Using only sheer willpower Bai Syaoran made it on his but blood kept spilling out of his mouth and the wound on his chest.

The ferocious wolf sneered as it couldn't believe that a young boy who hadn't even cultivated a single day in his life was able to survive one of its attacks.

This one act was like a slap in the face to the ferocious wolf that was so confident in its strength.

In a fit of rage, the ferocious wolf pounced at Bai Syaoran once more but this time it opened its jaws wide hoping to devour him.

Bai Syaoran might be mentally retarded but he was not stupid enough as to stand around and wait for his death.

Without a second thought he rolled to the side to dodge the attack.

The ferocious wolf missed Bai Syaoran's head by a hair breath and instead collided with the wall behind him.

The ferocious wolf was stunned momentarily but when it came to Bai Syaoran was already gone. Thanks to its keen senses though it was still able to track him down by following his scent and blood trail.

Pant! Pant! Pant!

Bai Syaoran was panting heavily as he ran for his life with an agonizing pain coming from his chest.

Taking a single step was comparable to having his body being stabbed multiple times.

Whenever Bai Syaoran felt like fainting the ferocious wolf's howls behind him would jolt him back up.

There was nowhere to go but forward, without hesitation Bai Syaoran headed deeper into the dark cave but the passage was getting narrower and narrower the further in he got.

Bai Syaoran wasn't sure what was in the cave, all he prayed for was that it wasn't the home of another beast or he would really have nowhere to fall back on.

The howls of the ferocious wolf were getting closer by the minute but his speed was getting slower as he approached his limit.

Just when he thought his fate was sealed he tripped on a rock and rolled further into the cave but then the road ended as there was only a massive pit.

Bai Syaoran couldn't stop himself in time and fell into the pit and passed out upon landing.

When he finally came to he saw a man wearing magnificent robes sitting cross-legged a few meters away from him.
