Chapter 3 - The Struggle

If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

-1 John 1:6-7 NIV

7 years ago, 'that' kid has already been given a big bucket of reality.

With his own two eyes, he saw his little brother breathe his last due to pneumonia. He can still vividly remember his whole appearance, red spots in the skin, drained off blood face...

Every breath he takes took 100x more effort than a normal human being. Oh, how beautiful is it to be alive. People eat, sleep, shit, love, lie, hate, kill.

In the span of 2 breaths in that cold operating room, his 5 years old little brother left the earth. You know, it feels like it just happens.

"Let's close our eyes and bow our heads..."

I love the church.

"In the name of the Father, the Son, the holy spirit..."

It's historical proof that humans are bound to be wiped out due to their ignorance.

"What did you pray for? My Ran."

His mother's exhausted face came into view. It's just yesterday when Foly my little brother died. There's no time to grieve. We can't miss Sunday after all.

"Me?"

I fell into silence, an unending silence. My mind is empty... Actually no, I can't forget him. He is my only friend. I can vividly remember the times we spent together as my tears betray me. His innocent smile flashed in my mind as he cheerfully plays with his Gundam while shouting the words.

"I want to go to Japan."

"ARGHHH! Huff, huff, sob..."

With all his strength, a child pushed off a steel plate atop him. The back of his head is bleeding, together with his legs and ribs. Fortunately, the wounds aren't that deep.

Everything around him is a mess. The front part of the plane is completely destroyed by the crash. Bodies of both the passengers and the monsters are lying on the ground.

His vision is fuzzy, he can't see that far. All he can make out is the screams and fire. But he can clearly see her mother's hand protruding in a rubble.

"Mom, Mom." The miserable child can't help but cry as he tries to get rid of the stones. One by one, he did it so painstakingly.

When he shove another stone, he heard a groan from within the mess.

"Raghu!"

"Wahhh!" He stumbled backwards as he saw a stucked goblin chewing his mother's decapitated arm.

"Sh*t! Sh*t! Sh*t! I'll kill you! I'll kill you!"

The boy became so numb and angry that he felt a primitive feeling rising in his chest.

This is the first time the child has experienced this kind of feeling. The feeling to dominate, the will to kill!

"Raaa!"

He grabbed a spiked steel bar from the rubble and stabbed the head of the trapped goblin.

"Hmph! Hah! Hah!"

The first strike has already penetrated the brain of the goblin, yet he does it again and again and again, like a dog unleashed from its cage. His anger hasn't subsided. On the other hand, he even felt a certain pleasure from doing it.

He felt a warm energy rushing from his body, giving him a newfound strength. Yet he ignored it.

He stabbed and stabbed and stabbed until his hands bleed.

"Ragru! Ragru!"

Another two goblins have freed themselves. Although one of them has one arm missing, they're more than eager to kill.

When he saw the two fearsome goblins running at him. He remembered the memories of the flight and he was suddenly engulfed with fear again.

He threw another look at what remained of her mother and the whole scene of the crash. He hesitated for a second but in the end, he decided to run to the unknown forest. The 13-year-old child still has no confidence to kill a goblin 1 on 1, what more there's 2 goblin.

He ran and ran, occasionally looking back. He saw the two goblins, albeit slower than him due to their smaller steps, chasing him with ferocious intensity.

He ignored the pain all over his body and the thumping of his head, it feel like there was a small heart implanted in his brain. Pumping incessantly, truthfully it's driving him crazy.

Suddenly, he slipped on a branch. He rolled downwards, hitting some stones and trees along the way. He breathed his last for that night. Inside the thick bushes of a plateau, his black jacket together with the darkness saved him from immediate death from the goblins.

...

Meanwhile, at NASA headquarters, in Washington D.C., United States, the leaders of different countries, organizations, and unions of the highest status are gathered inside a gloomy room. Some have a look of worry, some have a look of shock, and some are contemplating about something. Every person here has the power to destroy a nation, yet they're afraid of the same thing.

"Repeat the audio." With a grave voice, the president of the U.S.A. Donald Bryan said.

The scientists nodded at each other.

One of them said.

"2 days ago, a strange phenomena called 'The Ascent' happened all over the globe. This audio was taken at the exact moment when the 'Light', the 28 'Light' descended. We compressed it, but in reality, it only lasted for 0.16 milliseconds. I'll play it again."

The room turned silent. And then, a soft robotic voice echoed like a death sentence across the room.

"The sin-

Has accumulated-

The land-

God has-

Forsaken.

Struggle-

The Endless-

Days-

Has come."

Beep. Beep. Crack. Boom!

The large monitor suddenly explodes. The shards burst into millions of pieces. The leaders were frightened of the sight when the sky has turned red tonight.
