Chapter 14 - Just The Beginning

Everything was set for us to start heading to mount Akebia. We packed light according to Jaxon's instructions, each of us carrying a backpack and a separate bag for food.

There was a white limo waiting for us outside the castle gates, we all entered after bidding my family goodbye.

We began the journey to the end of the kingdom where the mountain was located. It was a quiet ride there which just ended up increasing my nerves.

Luckily, the ride didn't take too long, if it did I might as well have died from it.

The driver took us to the base of the mountain, concluding the easiest part of the journey. From here we would have to go on foot to the top.

We all filed out of the limo collecting our stuff. I tried looking at the top of the mountain but a thick fog was blocking it. 'That's going to be long way up', I whispered.

'Even longer since we'll be making some stops to train', Alex said as he came to my side.

The trainers had decided to continue our training as we retrieved the scepter, that way we'll could be more experienced as we advanced.

'Don't remind me', Aiden groaned at my back as I chuckled at his laziness, to think he was here before us.

'As spirited as always Aiden', Daniel said patting Aiden's back as he walked past him. Everyone laughed at this while Aiden grumbled.

Jaxon talked to the driver and before we knew it, the limo was gone leaving us with only one way to go, up.

'Ready guys?', Coral asked.

'As ready as we'll ever be', Iris answered pulling the straps of her bag higher up her shoulders.

'Better to get this over with, am I right leader?', Zayn said bumping my shoulder with his while his faced stretched out in a teasing grin.

'Yeah, whatever. Let's go', I said smiling as we all started our slow ascent to the top.

The bottom of the mountain was gradually getting steeper with each step we took and the hiking trail was also disappearing.

We weren't too far from the ground judging by how we could still see the base of the mountain.

We continued forward until the sun was directly above us showing it was time for lunch.

'I think we should take a break', Zayn said. Jaxon looked to the sky saying, 'You're right. Let's take a lunch break', he said.

There was a chorus of thuds and sighs behind me and when I looked back, Iris, Zayn and Aiden were sprawled out on the floor.

I followed their lead as the trainers did the same.

Aiden, who had been carrying our food supplies, brought out food for us to eat as we were sprawled out on the floor.

'Did we bring water?', I asked

'We brought some but if we run out there should be a spring on our path', Coral answered.

We rested for a while before we started hiking upwards again.

We walked for a while in silence until Aiden started talking and before we knew it we were all talking and joking around as we climbed higher and higher, the hours going in a blur.

I heard it before a saw it. The sound of rushing waters filled my ears as we stumbled upon the spring Coral talked about.

Crystal blue waters stared back at us as it flowed down the mountain surrounded by wet rocks decorated with fresh green.

There was a small clearing close to the spring. Jaxon decided we should camp there for the night even though the sun hadn't set yet.

We were all confused until Axel called out it was time for practice.

A chorus of groans and complaints later, the four of us were practicing our powers while the trainers sat and watch.

Zayn had brought out CJ claiming he would love the spring water, apparently he did cause he was splashing water everywhere as he swam in the spring.

He looked like he was having fun. Lucky, I thought as I created about ten pointed icicles around me and aimed it at a tree, hitting its target it disappeared with a wave of my hand.

'Good aim. You're getting better', Jaxon said.

'Well I had a great teacher', I said this time creating a barrier of ice around me just in time for Iris' fire balls to hit it.

'No crack', Iris called out, 'You're getting better.'

'Thanks', I said smiling but then the barrier melted and formed a floating ring of water around Iris and I.

'Let's see how fast it will take you to freeze that', Zayn called.

'Easy', I said as I stretched out my hands making sure Iris was directly behind me before I started to freeze the water.

It quickly froze then I turned it to particles making it disappear. 'How's that', I said with a smug look.

He was about to answer but was stopped when the three of us were lifted off the ground.

'You guys forgot about me', Aiden said as he lifted us higher and started to spin us. 'Try getting out of that', he challenged.

'Why don't we show him a combo move?', Zayn said to me with a smirk. 'Gladly', I answered smiling.

He formed water and aimed it at Aiden's hands the best he could as he spun in the air, I got ready as the water was close to his hands I quickly froze it trapping his hands.

Apparently we didn't think that through because the three of us hit the ground with a thud groaning.

'As funny as that was to watch, can someone please free my hands, I think I'm getting frost bites', Aiden said.

'I can help with that', Iris said as she created a ring of fire around his hand making it blazing hot immediately melting the ice.

'Thanks. You're flames are getting hotter', Aiden said after his hands were free.

'Thanks, I've been learning how to control the temperature of each flame', Iris replied.

'And you've definitely got the hang of it', Axel said before telling us it training was over and it was time for dinner.

Zayn put CJ back in his mind as we all settled.

After dinner, night fell and we got our tents ready to sleep and prepare for the journey tomorrow.
