Chapter 23 - Knock, Knock!

Iris put one foot in front of the other, as one would normally walk.

Sadly this was as fast as she could walk when wearing one of the oldest divine armors to be molded in the bowels of the Underworld. Forged through sin, malice, and what could only be described as smelly adolescent sweat.

The burden it put on the user was great - there have been times where Iris felt like her sanity itself was seconds away from breaking.

Aside from that, however, the armor made the user a goddamn walking tank.

I can't let them get close, thought Conquest. That armor is troublesome....

He stomped his foot in defiance of his own hesitation. "What are you THINKING, Conquest?!" He yelled at himself. "I am a God and you are just the drops of spit from an infant species!"

If nothing else, God's had their pride. Conquest especially. He could feel his muscles seizing up less from the effect of the binding arrow. He began to stand back up as he could no longer let the title of God be sullied any further by these unholy slayers.

A golden aura began to surround the beast. A chill went down Jayden and Iris's spine as they felt the energy of the beast lash out to new heights.

< System warning. System warning. >

"System warning?" Asked Jayden as the admin of the God Core System sounded off in his ear. He stood in wait as Iris prepared to make her move. "What's that mean?"

< Every Beast of Apocalypse is equipped with a world ending move. However, it is not to be used without permission from the King of the Heavens. >

"Okay, so there's no problem then? I mean, why would he destroy the world that they're trying to make a new species on, right?" Jayden replied.

< That is what the system warning is. There has been a significant spike in God energy that correlates to the initiation of the world ending move. And you are one of those currently in it's range. >

"Well no shit! It's a freaking world ending move!! Are you sure about that?!"

< Yes. >

"Is there anything we can do?"

< .....Negative. You do not currently possess the power to stop this attack or deal enough damage to incapacitate the Beast of Apocalypse. >

"Oh no..." Jayden's heart dropped to his gut.

The ground began to vibrate under the beast as bits of concrete began to float up into the sky. Energy began to crackle in the air all throughout the city.

The eyes of the beast began to glow with holy energy as the red energy welled up inside the beast that could be seen through the slits changed to a bright white as well.

I'll have to beg for forgiveness later, Conquest thought. But, for now...my patience has reached its end.

Conquest looked down upon the still approaching Iris - her steps still echoing in the air among the fire and chaos they were surrounded by. She stopped in the shadow of the long necks that stretched up above them all.

She crossed her left arm over her body; the blade that protruded from her forearm started to make a *humming* noise as the blade seemed to be vibrating at a high frequency. Energy began to spiral around the blade itself.

That's as far as you go, Conquest thought as his energy still continued to climb.

"This is insane." Jayden mumbled. "If he releases all that energy at once....there's no chance."

"Now! You all DIE-"

Before Conquest could finish his sentence, Iris swiped out forward in the direction of the beast.

A powerful slash of unholy energy burst from the blade in the shape of a crescent moon. While it was large, it moved much faster than it appeared. Conquest found that out the hard way - no sooner had Iris swung her blade that the God felt something break inside him when the attack passed through the beast.

"W-what...?" Conquest muttered.

The energy exploded inside the beast, completely splitting the bottom half from the top. "I-impossible...." The beast toppled over and hit the ground with authority.

A powerful gust ripped through the area and sent cars tumbling like a children's toy. The ground gave way in all directions as the city streets were not built to withstand such massive weight dropping upon it.

Jayden held his ground as he was almost blown off the building from being so close to the impact. "Gah! Holy hell, Iris!"

The beast sat upon the ground, having squashed quite a bit of the remaining part of the city from its incredible size. It had gone completely silent and there was no longer energy resonating from it.

Iris bent over forward following the attack and grabbed ahold of either side of her head in agony.

"wEEEEe musT FeAsT? Human!" A disjointed voice yelled out that only Iris could hear.

"G-get out of my head!!!" Iris called out.

"C-c-ConSUUmE ITs fffLeShH! NotHinG E-e-E-nds uUntil iT a-a-All ENDS!!!!!!"

"Shut! Uppp!" Iris yelled out as she fell to her knees in agony. The armor had a mighty will that imposed greatly upon her.

The Armor of Corruption suddenly went up in a black flame and completely disappeared. In its wake, it left an exhausted Iris who crumpled to the ground.

"huff...huff...huff..."

Iris had done a mighty blow to the Heavens with this action. One, that would not soon be forgotten.

"Iris!" Jayden yelled out as he was about to rush to her aid. That is, until a soft glowing light caught his attention within the cloud of dust from the impact. "What's that?"

< Please proceed to the connection point to enter the pocket dimension >

"Is that what that light is?" said Jayden. "Well, suck on that Axel! For all your efforts we were the ones to bring it down!" He noted smugly as if he was claiming Iris's incredible achievement as his own.

"That you did!" An all too familiar annoying voice sounded out.

< Putrid Wings >

Axel zoomed onto the battlefield using his handy technique to clear the distance from the chasm to the creature in no time.

"Oi, back off! You had no part in taking that fucker down!" Jayden yelled as he jumped off the building towards the ground below. "Didn't you yourself say it belonged to the winner??"

"I did!" Axel yelled as he passed by Jayden with a little wink. "But this fight isn't over yet."

Axel disappeared into the cloud of dust leaving Jayden in his wake. Jayden jumped down and landed on the broken ground below. He made his way to Iris despite the frustration he felt.

"Don't think you're getting away with this! We'll be sure to pick up your broken body after we come to slay the God ourselves."

Axel zoomed through the dust cloud until he came upon the source of the light. On the side of the top half of the slain beast, there was a large swirling white light about twice the size of a sewer manhole. He landed on top of the beast and stood over the swirling vortex.

< The connection point is fatal for anyone outside of those with divine energy. You may enter when you're ready to start the final phase of this fight. >

"Knock knock, motherfucker." Axel said with a big grin.
