Chapter 87 - Chapter 84: The pursuit

"Is it conceivable that the footage is malfunctioning? It defies belief that any human could move with such astonishing rapidity," another director mused, voicing the collective incredulity that gripped the room.

"If they possess such uncanny speed, what assurances do we have that they have not already departed the premises?" another queried.

"They are still within the premises, rest assured. Any attempt to flee would prove futile," affirmed Anderson with a resolute tone, his unwavering conviction lending a measure of reassurance to the somber atmosphere that enveloped the room.

"How many individuals are presently unaccounted for?" Damien inquired, having silently absorbed the varied opinions and perspectives shared within the group as each individual grappled with approaches to address the unfolding situation.

"At this moment, five people are missing—my father, Director Shawn, Rebecca, and two security detail," Lauren responded with a composed demeanor that belied the rapid flutter of her heart. Damien, sensed the subtle agitation that pulsed beneath her façade of calm composure.

"Agent Lauren, may I have a word" Damien requested, prompting Lauren's initial hesitation before she agreed to his request.

Leading her through an inconspicuous door, they entered an office. "What is it?" she inquired with a veneer of detachment.

"Do you recognize these individuals?" Damien inquired with a weighty solemnity, brushing aside her affectation of indifference.

"They are vampires, a fact known to us, save for the human guest" Lauren acknowledged with a notable composure, though beneath her serene exterior, her thoughts roiled with a tumult of apprehension, grappling with the looming fate of her father and others in the grip of unknown peril.

"They are not merely vampires; they are the very individuals for whom the entire nation has been in search for," Damien revealed, studying her countenance closely, gauging her response to the distressing revelation. While she outwardly received the news with a measure of calm, inwardly, her heart churned with apprehension as she grappled with the potential fate of her loved ones should they not be rescued in time.

"I promise that we will locate your father and the others. They will be unable to breach the shield casted by Venessa around the premises; I guarantee their safe rescue," Damien sought to reassure her, his innermost desire to provide peace and protection to her and her father. Though he longed to hold her in a comforting hug and assure her everything would be fine, but he heistated, mindful of his earlier words and their lingering impact.

Lauren closed her eyes and emitted a weary sigh, her stance expressive of her exasperation, her composure slipping just enough for a solitary tear to trail down her delicate features. Acting on instinct, Damien tenderly cupped the side of her face with his hands, using his thumbs to gently wipe away the solitary tear. For a fleeting instant, she leaned into the comforting warmth of his touch, before abruptly withdrawing.

Just as Damien prepared to interject, a call pierced through the silence,. "Go ahead," he calmly declared into his cell phone.

"We have successfully located them," the urgent voice on the other end relayed before Damien swiftly concluded the call "They found them," Damien declared, prompting them to leave the office.

On the first floor, the very site of the night's gathering, operatives from the National Division of Intelligence were assembled, standing poised and primed, awaiting instruction. "We were unable to mobilize additional agents, given the ongoing lockdown of the entire premises," Stephanie reported upon Lauren's arrival, her words reflecting the logistical challenges imposed by the current state of affairs.

"It doesnt matter; lets go," Lauren asserted in a composed tone, deftly securing her lustrous black locks into a messy fashioned bun. Drawing a 9mm pistol from a concealed holster at her thigh, evoking a mix of awe and admiration from those gathered, including the astounded vampires who bore witness to this.

The assembled security operatives were then meticulously divided into three distinct groups, strategically organized to afford maximum and efficient coverage of the expansive grounds before them.

Meanwhile, Damien, alongside Derek, Damon, and Serafina, forged ahead toward the location where some of the assailants were believed to be confined.

The commanding leader of the vampire intruders guided his ten comrades, each carrying an unconscious captive, toward a concealed exit at the far end of the underground parking lot. Initially, he had planned to create a magical portal for their escape, but numerous powerful spells and barriers erected by different witches thwarted his efforts. Consequently, he resolved to seek out a discreet exit that would remain unnoticed by any passerby.

One of the overzealous followers, shouldering a captive, hurried ahead to ensure the path was clear. Unfortunately, he stumbled upon an invisible barrier set by the witches. Instantly, a surge of electrical energy engulfed him, causing convulsions before tragically disintegrating him into a multitude of tiny fragments. His dark blood splattered the ground, and the captive he carried, Rebecca, fell to the floor.

The leader, though momentarily surprised by the unexpected turn of events, couldn't help but emit a sinister chuckle, much to the bewilderment of his remaining followers. Puzzled by his unexpected reaction to the loss of their comrade, the men exchanged uncertain glances, struggling to comprehend the depths of his amusement.

"To the individual responsible for this formidable barrier, I eagerly await our eventual encounter," the leader declared with unwavering determination, before carefully placing Director Shaw on the ground and commencing an incantation to dismantle the potent hindrance blocking their path to freedom

"Suim sanatorium covee insanstia Cancun" He said but the resistant on the barrier was strong, but certainly not stronger than him he said in his mind, so he went ahead throwing more spell on the barrier.

In the midst of confronting the impenetrable barrier, the leader of the intruders came to a stark realization: not all of his companions could accompany him in their flight to freedom. Understanding the urgent necessity of securing even the slimmest opportunity for escape with his captive before the forces of the witches and vampires could converge upon them, he was compelled to make a weighty decision.

Contemplating the dire situation at hand, he addressed his compatriots with a tone that granted no quarter for uncertainty.

"Given the unyielding nature of the barrier before us, it is clear that not all of us will be able to leave just yet, If you find yourself unable to escape with me, prioritize your survival above all else," he declaimed, his voice carrying the weight of necessity. "Should evading pursuit prove to be an insurmountable task, you are to gather at the rendezvous point, where we shall regroup. However, should circumstances forsake you to the clutches of our adversaries, let your final acts resonate. Your sacrifice shall not be in vain. Is this understood?"
