Chapter 28 - Chapter 26: Dinner Date with Lauren

Deep within the confines of an opulent, high-rise building, Damien and Lauren found themselves stepping into of his lavish private elevator. As the doors closed, their conversation took a culinary turn.

"Tell me, fair Lauren, in which fancy establishment shall we have our dinner?" Damien inquired, his voice ringed with curiosity and eyes dancing with anticipation.

Lauren, one whose taste ventured beyond the conventional offerings of seven-star palaces, contemplated her response for a moment. "I have in mind a place that exudes a certain charm, place renowned for crafting the most delectable cuisines, and it's not your run-of-the-mill seven-star establishment," Lauren responded confidently.

A chuckle escaped Damien's lips.

"Ah, my dear, do you perhaps perceive me as one of those individuals who view their fellow being and humans as mere commoners, unworthy of good food?" His laughter intertwined with his words, creating a shared moment of levity between them.

Lauren's expressive eyes softened,

"No, Damien, that is not what I mean ," she replied, feeling bad that he might have misunderstood her reasons.

"Oh dont mind me," Damien replied, a warm smile gracing his lips.

"What I meant to convey is that where I choose to dine may not align with your preferences. As the esteemed Director and owner of the most influential conglomerate in our country, I'm certain you are more accustomed tobhaving meals at more prestigious establishments than a modest 4-star restaurant down the street," she reasoned, hoping to alleviate any pressure Damien might feel to settle for a less extravagant option for their evening meal.

A smirk danced across his lips, the subtle flex of superiority evident as he spoke with confidence.

"My wealth, my dear, allows me the liberty to dine wherever and with whomever I please. Your efforts to dissuade me are quite futile, I must say," he declared, his eyes locking onto hers.

Undeterred, she held her ground, a flicker of warning in her eyes. "Then so be it," she replied, her voice carrying a note of resolve. "But mark my words, the consequences are yours to bear."

A glimmer of surprise flickered across his face, enraptured by her unwavering spirit. "With you by my side, I sense a lovely evening awaits me," he murmured, his words artfully crafted to capture her heart in unexpected ways.

Escorted by his vigilant bodyguards, they made their way to his secluded parking lot. A sleek black Rolls-Royce awaited them, ready to whisk them away into the night.

"Where to, boss?" the driver inquired, Damien looked at Lauren to give the direction, as they would be dinning at her preferred venue.

"Head to Bella Vita restaurant," Lauren directed, her voice filled with anticipation. "It's nestled on 4A Via Amore, Florence Street, in the lower east side."

With a purr of the engine, the car sprang to life, propelling them forward into the streer. The city lights blurred in their wake as they embarked on a journey where romance and destiny intertwined, whispering promises of a night they would never forget.

Inside the Rolls-Royce, Lauren found solace in the distraction of her phone, absentmindedly tapping away, until an unfamiliar number appeared on her screen.

"Hello, Special Agent Lauren speaking," she responded, her tone curt and composed, a reflection of her professional demeanor.

"Ah, were you always this formal?" the caller playfully quipped, a chuckle dancing through the line. The sound of that familiar laughter evoked a swift transformation in her countenance, the shift as sudden as a gust of wind.

"What do you want, Alex?" she questioned, her displeasure palpable, both in her voice and in the tension etched upon her features. He was the last person she desired to talk to, working deligently to avoid any interaction with him altogether within their workplace.

"I had hoped for a chance to speak with you today amidst the revelries and festivities, but you left pretty early. Hence, I resorted to calling," he narrated.

Drawing in a deep breath, she swiftly ended the call, severing the connection thread between them. Damien, who had inadvertently overheard snippets of their conversation due to their close proximity, couldn't help but pinch the space between his eyebrows, his expression marred with concern.

"Are you alright?" he suddenly inquired, the authenticity of his worry evident in his gaze. Lauren turned to meet his gaze, her surprise mingling with a genuine smile that blossomed upon her lips. Nodding, she affirmed his query, "I'm fine, thank you."

As the wheels of time spun their web, fifteen minutes carried them swiftly to the Bella Vita Restaurant. Damien, accompanied by his devoted entourage, walked in synchronized harmony, their presence commanding attention as they entered the establishment.

The keen eyes of the headwaiter swiftly alighted upon the figure of their boss, accompanied by his captivating female companion. Reacting with agility, he hastened forward, guiding them into a secluded private room, reserved solely for their indulgence. With graceful efficiency, he took their orders, ensuring their desires would be met.

As they settled in, inside the private room, the manager of the establishment, Mr. Rodriguez Facundo, glided into the room, accompanied by his boisterous three-year-old granddaughter, Fernanda. A joyous smile played upon his lips as he approached their table.

"Ah, Mr. Voltorie, esteemed boss, Matthew informed me of your presence. I abandoned all other duties and rushed here," he greeted.

Little Fernanda wriggled free from her grandfather's embrace, her tiny arms outstretched as she made her way towards Damien.

"Uncle Damien, Uncle Damien!" the young child exclaimed in her endearing baby voice, eliciting a tender smile from Damien. He tenderly scooped her into his lap, their connection born of familial affection.

"Oh, I'm terribly sorry, boss. Baby Fernanda has been quite spirited these past few days," Mr. Rodriguez apologized, poised to retrieve the toddler from Damien's embrace.

"Stay right where you are," Damien instructed him, his voice laced with both authority and fondness. The baby showered his face with innocent, slobbery kisses, evoking an indulgent grin.

Lauren, still reeling from the unforeseen connection she was witnessing, sat frozen in a state of shock, awe, and confusion.

The world seemed suddenly smaller.

She could scarcely comprehend the unlikely familiarity that existed between Damien and the esteemed Mr. Rodriguez.

As she turned, Mr. Rodriguez, the manager of the restaurant, extended a warm greeting to Lauren, his face radiant with joy.

"Lauren, my dear, how splendid to see you. We've been following the news and heard all about the recent events," he exclaimed, his voice carrying genuine concern and affection.

"I'm doing very well, Mr. Rodriguez," she replied, her smile illuminating her features. Her gaze fell upon Fernanda, who beamed back at her with a brilliance that mirrored her innocent charm.

"Oh, Fernanda, my goodness, look how much you've grown," Lauren remarked, her voice filled with tenderness. Fernanda, overcome with excitement, affectionately referred to her as "Aunt Lauren," her voice ringing with childish delight, though she remained contentedly seated.

Unable to contain her curiosity, Lauren ventured to inquire about the unexpected connection between Mr. Rodriguez and Damien. Observing Damien's complacent smile, she addressed the manager directly. "Mr. Rodriguez, forgive my curiosity, but I had no inkling that you and Damien were acquainted. It's quite a surprise."

A warmth filled the air as Damien met Lauren's gaze, finding amusement and pleasure in the familiarity of her addressing him by his first name.

"Dear Lauren, I've known Damien since the dawn of time. He's the one I mentioned to you—the man who forever changed the course of my life," the old man recounted, his voice resonating with a mixture of admiration, gratitude, and a touch of nostalgia.

Lauren turned and looked at him and couldn't help the smile that graced her face.

"Who exactly are you Damien Voltorie" she asked in amazement.

Damien shrugged his shoulders and went back to playing with the toddler in his arms.
