Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: He was my first love.

Damien liked the feel of warmth her hands brought to his cold one's as the two walked a few distance away, before Lauren shaked off her hand from his.

"What was that for?" Lauren asked with her hands on her hip staring daggers at him. He found her face and stance cute he couldn't help smiling at her. Seeing his dashing smiling face, she felt uncomfortable and lowered her gaze.

Looking at the sides he noticed Alex was taking a peek at them once in a while. So Damien took the chance to invade and read his mind. He smirked when he saw his thoughts. Placing his hands on Lauren's shoulder, he gently moved her to his front and backed Alex, deliberately blocking him from taking a peek at them.

"Now, you were saying something" Damien asked looking down at her. Her annoyance had already subsided but she needed clarification on why he said what he said, and that too in front of Alex.

"I asked what was that for?" .

"What was what for?" He replied with a straight face pretending to not know what she was referring to.

she scoffed, couldnt believe he was pretending, but she was determined to not let it go until she got an answer.

"Since you are pretending to not know what I'm talking about, let me refresh your memory then...why did you tell Alex that you were my boyfriend when infact i dont even know you " Lauren said, getting agitated once again.

"Shouldnt you be thanking me, I literally saved you from a potential embarrassing situation" He said calmly whilst picking a glass of wine from a nearby waiter.

He gracefully lifted the glass of red wine up to his lips, taking in the bouquet of the aroma of the wine as a small smile slowly spread across his face.

He paused before taking the first sip, savoring the moment and letting the anticipation build. Finally, after an eternity of seconds, he took a deep sip of the wine, letting the flavors and complexities of the flavors transport him to a world of luxury.

Lauren watched in awe at how elegant his actions were, recovering from her reverie she gave him a stern look, which he found really cute.

'How cute' he said in his mind.

"What's more embarrassing than I claiming to be my boyfriend in front of....." she stoped herself from completing the sentence.

"In the presence of your ex boyfriend? It's seems his presence still affects you a lot, no?" he said looking her dead in the eye. Lauren sighed softly, she knew he was right, yes his presence still affects her same as it did months ago and she hates it because it invalidates all the hard work she put to get over him.

Damien immediately regretted saying what he said, because right now she looked unhappy, sad even. He wanted to console her but he didnt know how to or what to say to make her feel better.

"Its his loss anyways" he finally said after deliberating for a while .

"Sorry?" Lauren asked as she looked up at him, he was momentarily stunned at how bright her beautiful green eyes shined under the chandelier.. cleairng his throat he looked away..

"I said it's his loss...." she gave a weak smile.

"Over the centuries, I have observed humans to be the only species that have the tendency of making the wrong choices and taking wrong decisions, it's a circus I'm afraid." He said as a matter of fact.

She looked at him for awhile and wondered why he sometimes talk as the third person.

"What do you mean humans, what are you then? A vampire , werewolf?" She asked chuckling.

"A Vampire" he said with a straight face, but was sure she wouldnt believe him.

"Then I'm marilyn monroe" she joked, and as expected she didnt believe him.

The two were still talking when Mr Turner saw his daughter finally having a chat with a male specie other than himself. Getting closer to them he was suprised to see that she was talking to Mr Damien Voltorie.

"There you are Lauren, I have been looking all over for you" Mr Turner said.

"Dad, thank God...please can we go home now" lauren said relieved to finally leave the party.

"Mr Voltorie, I didnt know you two knew eachother?" Mr Turner asked.

"We dont" Lauren said firmly, causing Damien to cork an eyebrow at her..

'Thought we were having a moment' he wondered. Lauren immediately felt bad for the way she responded, he had literally being keeping her company all through the night.

"Met her once in one of my lounge last week,so i wouldnt characterise that as 'knowing eachother'" Damien said curtly.

"Dad are we going yet?" She asked, as she really wanted to call it a night.

Mr Turner thought for awhile and then an idea came to his mind, one that his daughter will certainly kill him for, but desperate time calls for desperate measures.

''Well no, I still have alot of things to discuss over with the committee so i might be running a little bit late, but you need to go home since it's almost midnight, there I suggest you ask Mr Voltorie here to drop you off when he is leaving" Mr Turner carefully said.

"What? No....Dad you cannot be serious" she complained, pouting but seeing her dad's firm expression, she panicked

"Wait, Dad are you serious?....how can you hand me over to someone who you and I barely know, no offense Mr Voltorie"she said.

"Non Taken" he smiled.

Lauren argued and argued but couldn't convince her Dad to take her home since she's had a few drinks and didnt come with her chauffeur. Finally she accepted her fate and went along with Damien to the parking lot, under the watchful eyes of Alex.

The two didn't utter anyword to eachother till they went inside the car. She stayed very far from him while he sat on the other end of the back seat, his eyes closed as he placed his head on the car headdress, while his driver drove them out of the premises.

Lauren couldnt help taking quick glances at him, his side profile was stunning, it was almost perfect. Seeing him up close she couldn't help but remember the man with the golden eyes from the strange dream she had a week ago.

'They both really do look alike' she thought but quickly dismissed it.

The silence in the car was so thick it could be cut with a knife, and it was becoming uncomfortable for Lauren, she wanted to apologise for earlier but she didn't know how to go about it.

Taking in a deep breath, she looked at his side profile again and was mesmerized yet again, but she needed to say what's been eating her up.

"I'm sorry about earlier" she said softly.

"Its ok, you were right, we were just acquaintances" he said with his eyes still closed.

Looking out through the window, she watched as the buildings and street lights whizzed along.

"Alex and i were childhood sweetheart and started officially dating from high school, we loved eachother until he broke my heart into a million pieces" Lauren said solemnly.

Damien opened his eyes and stared at her and for the first time in over two centuries he had the urge to kill a human, in very slow and excruciating way even the devil will be appalled.

"your eyes?" lauren said, shock and suprise visibly written all over her face.

'is he the man from my dream?' she thought
