Chereads / Fairy Tail: Master Dragneel / Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

The next day.

Fairy Tail Library.

"Politics, economics, geopolitics, guild relationships, business management …I will have you learn all that is needed for you to be a qualified guild master."

Natsu slumped his head down on the desk, with towering numbers of books laid before him.

"Good luck Natsu," said Happy, who was reading a scroll at the corner.

He has been in the library for several days, trying to learn as much as possible so that he won't have to feel so utterly powerless whenever he accompany Natsu on his mission.

Unfortunately, his magic energy is not enough for him to use high level spells. He did managed to learn basic enchantment magic, allowing him to enchant stuffs.

Right now, the best he could do was enchant a stick and make it as durable as a metal. But he swear that he will get better at it.

"Laki has been doing all the paperworks required for your inauguration," said Mavis, waving her finger in front of him, "You better be thankful, you know paperworks is the mortal enemies of every leaders."

"But I need to go to Stella right now," Natsu groaned, "I have something to do there."

"Stella? What do you plan on doing there?" Asked Mavis, confused. "I admit, that is a very beautiful country, but I don't think you have time for sightseeing."

"Atlas Flame told me that there is an essence flame there, I want to take it for myself." Said Natsu.

"An essence flame huh?" Mavis muttered, she then smiled at him, "How about a deal? You will learn everything you can until you are called by the council to Era for your inauguration, after that you are free to go."

"Seriously?"

"Seriously."

"Yosh! I'm all fired up!"

...…

...

"So Flare-chan, D-class mage, which is your rank by the way, are limited to taking jobs that is only within the area where their guild is located, in this case Magnolia." Said Kinana. "D-class jobs usually only offers thousands to ten thousand jewels, since most of them are just helping some folks."

Flare nodded eagerly. "So, how can I increase my rank and take more higher level mission?"

"Well, you don't actually need to be promoted to take on higher level jobs," said Kinana, smiling at Flare, "But you must have a higher ranking teammate accompanying you."

"Oh. Can I ask Pinky for help?"

Kinana smiled wryly, "If you mean Natsu, maybe not. Natsu is currently busy studying under the first master, and after his inauguration he will even be busier since he will officially take on the mantle of Fairy Tail's Fourth Master."

"Is that so? I guess I can ask Lavender then."

"You do that," Kinana nodded at her, wondering if this Lavender was Laki or not, "Now, to promote yourself to C-class, you must have completed at least 15 D-class jobs and have been part of the guild for a month at the very least."

"A month? Okay." Flare nodded.

"C-class jobs would take you outside of Magnolia, but most of them are just escorting merchants or other important people. There are also some C-class jobs that would ask you to capture some bandits or other criminals."

"Hm, Hm," Flare nodded, before asking, "how about the payment? How much do you earn for a C-class jobs?"

"Well, usually you'd get tens of thousands of Jewels, there are even some rich people who would offer up to 80 thousand jewels just for finding a pair of shoes that was stolen by thieves." Said Kinana.

"Wow. Just for finding a pair of shoes?" Asked Flare in wonder.

"Yep. I have heard that Natsu even took a job that offered 2 million jewels just for burning a book, I wasn't working here before that happened though, so I can't say for sure." Said Laki.

"2 million?" Flare's head hurts just thinking about that much money.

"Moving on, to advance from C-class to B-class, you would need to at least be a C-class for a minimum of six months and completed no less than thirty C-class jobs."

"Six months?" Flare tilted her head as she asked, "Why do we actually need to have a timeframe as a requirement for our promotion?"

"Well, it is actually to make sure that a mage can have sufficient experience and allow them to adjust to the responsibilities that goes along with their rank." Answered Kinana.

"Hmm …understandable." Flare nodded her head.

"Now, B-class jobs is where things gets real. You'd have to face dark mages and magic beasts. These types of jobs is actually what ended most mage's career, or in worst case, their life. They probably don't have time to adjust their mentality and treat these type of jobs as your average C-class, which cost them great consequences."

Unlike C-class jobs which you'd normally just face civilians who happen to own some low quality magic items and decided to abuse them, in B-class jobs you will face dark mages who has been trained in magic and knew how to fight.

Most newly promoted B-class mages couldn't understand that and it cost them their career, or even their lives.

It is why in Fairy Tail mages are required to have a minimum timeframe since their application so that they won't just rapidly increase in ranks and not have enough time to adjust and gain experience.

"Of course, they pay is also rather high, reaching hundreds of thousands and not any lower than 70 thousand." Said Kinana, "Moving on, we have A-class jobs. Because of how dangerous these jobs are, it is normal for mages to form a team to complete them."

"A team?" Asked Flare. "Like Natsu and Laki?"

"…Close. But not quite." Kinana nodded, "These types of jobs are quite hard for a mage to tackle alone so they worked with others and share the pay. Rewards for these jobs are no lower than 100 thousand jewels, with some even reaching up to more than half a million."

"So much?" Flare's eyes widened. Before she let out a grin, "I can't wait to take an A-class job!"

"Then you need to wait a bit for that," said Kinana, smiling at the excited girl, "You have to be an A-class before taking one. And to be promoted from B-class requires you to be B-class for a year, and completed at least 30 B-class jobs."

"A year? That might take awhile." Sighed Flare.

"Indeed. Now let's move on to S-class jobs," said Kinana, "S-class jobs are so highly dangerous that in addition to the master's approval, you must also get the permission from the council. The process is a bit complicated because of that. However, the pay also easily reached millions of jewels."

"Millions!? That's so much!"

"Indeed. Only S-class mages can take them." Said Kinana, "To be an S-class mage, you must at least be an A-class for years before you can be chosen as a candidate to take on the S-class Promotion Trials. Of course, there are exceptions, for example a certain member of our guild was an S-class mage in another guild before, and was chosen by the master as a candidate."

"I see. So if you're actually a member of another guild before, it makes it easier to increase your rank since you have already gained experience?"

"Exactly." Kinana nodded, "Now, above S-class are the SS-class Jobs, only veteran S-class mages who has hold that rank for several years can take on that level of difficulty."

Flare tilted her head in confusion, "S-class can take it? Is there no SS-class?"

Kinana pursed her lips, "Technically there is. They are the "Ace" of the guild, their strongest member. Sometimes they are referred to as SS-class, but it's not an official rank."

"I see." Flare nodded.

"Now, above the SS-class jobs are known as 10-year class, or Decade-Class. They are an incredibly difficult jobs that hasn't been completed in decades. Though an "Ace" can take those jobs alone, a veteran S-class can also accept that level of job with the help of their team."

"Decade-class …" Flare's eyes couldn't help but widen in excitement.

"Now, don't get too excited." Kinana chuckled seeing the girl's expression, "There is job ranked higher than that, known as 100-year Class, or Century-Class. They are jobs that hasn't been completed for centuries."

"Centuries …that's a long time!"

"Indeed. Now normally, only Wizard Saints or Saint Candidates can take on those level of jobs, but it is also possible for an S-class mage and their team to take it on. Their survival is not guaranteed though. No one who attempted the century-class jobs managed to return alive …except for Gildarts, the Ace of Fairy Tail."

"The Ace …so awesome. Is he stronger than pinky?"

"So much stronger."

"So cool." Flare muttered, before turning towards Kinana to ask, "by the way, what's a Wizard Saint or Saint Candidate."

"Well, Wizard Saints, or The Ten Wizard Saints are the ten strongest mages in the continent. It is said that just one of them are a threat to an entire kingdom."

"So strong!? Aren't they as strong as a dragon!?"

"I doubt that." Kinana smiled wryly, "Master Makarov used to be a Wizard Saint, but he still could not beat one dragon, and he has the help of all our strongest mages with him."

"Ah, the Tenrou Incident?"

"Yes." Kinana nodded, "Now, a Saint Candidate, are mages across the continent that the council deemed strong enough to replace a Wizard Saint in case a spot became vacant. Jura Nekis of the Lamia Scale used to be one until the loss of one of the Wizard Saint, Jellal Fernandez, and was officially recognized as a Saint."

"Wow." Flare sighed dreamily, "I can't believe there are so many strong people here in the outside world. I'm fired up!"

Kinana raised a brow at that oh so familiar catchphrase.

"I'm going to take a job! See you later bluenette!" With that, Flare hopped to the job request board.

"It's Kinana." Kinana sighed as the red haired girl was already focused on choosing a job, "Oh well."

With that, she focused back wiping the mugs on the counter.
