Chapter 37 - Chapter 37. First mission 3.

Lucas' gaze remained fixed on the slowly approaching arachnid as he heaved one sigh of nervousness after another, beads of sweat tricking down his face.

''With the situation my body is in now, I only have about three minutes before I completely lose consciousness'' Lucas mused to himself, as he panted heavily.

Squeech... squeech

The bestial instincts of the terrifyingly ginormous arachnid continued to rumble as it's red eye glared at it's prey with a condescending demeanor. The prey that had attempted to make mockery of it for a while now had finally reached a dead end.

It was time to hunt...

Poof.... poof

The predator had launched green steamy liquids that proceeded out of it's mouth towards the prey.

Lucas gritted his teeth under the stress he was putting his body through, then performed a series of aerial and ground flips to dodge the barrages of the deadly substance that had a tendency to end his life.

With his silvery hardened skin enveloped by blue flames and crackling lightning, he wasted not even a second after ceasing his agile maneuvers. Blue flames and lightning becoming more dense at his feet, serving as an engine catalyst of speed. Then, he shot forth towards the creature like a cannonball, his focus, the creature's eyes..

Being aware of the fact that the monstrosity had a very thick carapace, he knew he would stand no chance against it, if he decided to attack any other area of the creature's body.

He was not even sure whether or not the creature's eye would be it's weak point. However, since this was so for most beasts C rank and below, he had to bet everything on this reckless ideology.

Lucas' right hand had now clutched the upper part of the arachnid's ginormous eyelid, where it's right eye was located. The creature's bestial instincts kicked in, then it shook it's head vigorously in an attempt to rid Lucas contact with it.

Lucas' monumental skin skill had increased his physical strength, helping him to firmly grip on to the creature's eyelid. However, he knew that this would last for only a few seconds....

''If the flames and lightning surrounding my body can do nothing to your hard exterior, then I will go for the part of your body with no carapace... It's either you die... or I die...'' . Lucas bellowed in exasperation, his breathing ragged, his headache increasing, his dizziness becoming more prominent.

Lucas activated his pyromancer's slug skill, his left hand assuming the posture of a pistol closing in on the gigantic eye, as his right hand firmly gripped the creature's gigantic eyelid.

Fwoosh...!!!... Fwoosh.... Fwoosh....

Consecutive flame bullets penetrated the target eye of the monstrosity with ease...

Aaaaarghhhhhh!!!!

Lucas yelled as a result of the searing pain his body was enduring due to the stress his E rank constitution had endured as a result of using all his skills at the same time for such a prolonged period of time.

However, in spite of the pain, he fired one flame bullet after another into the creature's right eye....

The monstrosity fired consecutive barrages of green steamy liquids from it's mouth into the atmosphere due to the pain the prey now turned it's predator was putting it through.

It's right and left eye had assumed a complete blue coloration, due to the conflagration of blue flames that was currently spreading to , and not only roasting it's right eye, but the innards of it's nervous system.

Lucas' vision had grown blurry, the flames, lightning and silver sheen that enveloped his body had completely disappeared. His grip on the creature's eyelid completely weakened, then he let go . He managed to land with one knee on the ground with the small vestige of strength he had left... then coughed out a mouthful of blood. It seemed his estimated 3 minutes before he lost consciousness was up..

''I've outdone myself... Is this how I die?... at the hands of a daibolic beast?... All my hopes... about to be dashed?...'' In his hazy vision, Lucas could perceive the outline of the ginormous monstrosity who took a few steps forward...His heartbeat grew frantic....fear and regret for being so weak overwhelming him...

Then...

booommm!!

The now cloudy silhouette of the creature fell sideways, causing vibrations to ripple on the landscape and the lake behind him..

''I suppose, I managed to escape death once again''... Heaving a sigh of relief, Lucas finally gave in to exhaustion, giving in to his weak knees, assuming a prone fall, as darkness blanketed his vision.

.....

Lucas ' POV..

I opened my eyes to the eery calm of the evening forest.... Even though it was at night, the full moon hung above all life, illuminating all beneath it's luminous jurisdiction...

The cold winds brushed past my face, as I straightened my knees to regain my footing.

"It's freaking cold...Luckily for me all the clothes in my apartment are tailored to withstand self damage on contact with the wearer's affinities on the condition that he or she is an E rank hunter... If I were a D rank hunter or above, the use of my skills would have harmed my clothes, and I would have been shivering naked in this cold".. I mused inwardly as I glanced at my surroundings, the memories of the previous battle with the arachnid replaying in my head...

"I almost died... Because I'm too weak... I need to become stronger" .I clenched my fists, a burning determination to become stronger enveloping my whole being...

I recalled the fear I felt the few moments before the creature fell... I was lucky it died right when I was on my last legs...

"What would have happened if it had not died at that moment... " I rhetorically mused to myself...

The answer to my question was pretty much obvious... "I would have died a miserable death, even with my unlimited potential ..."

I had to become stronger...

My body was no longer in an extreme state of pain and stress, therefore I moved towards where the corpse of the previous foe with which I wrestled for my life currently lay....

It's gargantuan eye sockets were now hollow without eyes.

Blue liquid, probably it's blood, had stained it's head.

The rest of it's body remained completely normal, it's carapace, and appendages intact..

I stepped forward, then touched the carapace of it's body "Let's see if this permanent mirroring affinity works on diabolic beasts too"
