Above the sky, dark clouds continuously gathered.
The sunlight was obscured by the thick layers of clouds.
A light, comfortable drizzle floated in the wind.
Over the course of a year,
In the Rain Village, located within the Land of Rain, everything seemed to have remained largely unchanged.
If there was one difference, it would be that the previously gaunt and sallow faces of the villagers had now vanished, replaced by lively and spirited expressions.
Every villager held deep expectations for the future, firmly believing that tomorrow would bring even better days for their village.
Despite the streets being shrouded in a curtain of rain, the fine drizzle hardly counted as anything significant for the inhabitants of the Rain Village.
Several children frolicked in the streets, completely unbothered by their clothes getting wet from the light rain.
Their innocent laughter brought endless joy to the village, demonstrating vibrant vitality.
Their families watched on with delight, unconcerned about the minor rainfall.
Children of the Rain Village were born to be companions of the rainwater.
At the center of the village, atop a building made of black stone, a young man slightly squinted his eyes, gently observing this scene within the village.
Especially upon seeing the smiling faces of the children, he appeared even more satisfied.
He stood by the window, murmuring,
"Father... Mother... do you see... the changes in the Rain Village..."
"This village has walked out from despair... all thanks to that person's guidance..."
Saying this, he slowly raised his head to look at the cloudy sky above, continuing,
"So..."
"I firmly believe that upon that person's return, the entire world will eventually change as well..."
"And I... would not hesitate to sacrifice my own life for this noble ideal... I hope you can forgive me in spirit..."
As his words fell, a complex expression briefly flashed across his slightly narrowed eyes.
...
In a land shrouded by wind and sand,
The howling winds carried sand and dust, rolling fiercely like a wild beast, its roaring sound chilling to the bone.
In this endless desolate desert of Suna, a village stood erect.
This was the location of the Sand Village, within the Land of Wind.
In a secluded and desolate place, there was a mud house, where a muffled scream resounded at this moment.
"Ah!"
As the scream abruptly stopped, a figure slowly collapsed to the ground, blood flowing from his body.
From his attire, it was clear that he was an ordinary villager of the Sand Village.
Behind him, a small figure slowly emerged.
The small figure still manipulated several chakra threads in his hands.
He had fluffy red hair and a somewhat tender face, currently staring with wide eyes at the dead villager on the ground, his breath slightly panicked.
Clearly, seeing the villager die by his hand, his heart was not entirely calm.
At that moment, a muffled voice was heard,
"Sasori, why do I sense unease in your heart? Could it be that you still harbor mercy?"
As the voice fell, a towering figure emerged from the shadows of the nearby house.
He was tall and muscular, appearing to be in his thirties, with a occasionally intimidating look in his eyes.
Hearing his words, Sasori remained silent, his face showing a bit of discomfort, softly saying,
"No, it's just... I'm not quite used to it yet... Lord Chitoro."
To this, the towering Chitoro said gravely,
"That's good..."
"Remember, human puppetry is a forbidden puppetry technique in the Sand Village. So... even a moment of mercy could expose yourself..."
"Even Captain Chiyo might not be able to protect you... so... you must eliminate this unnecessary mercy..."
Hearing his words, Sasori's tender face grew slightly solemn, and he nodded deeply.
Seeing his reaction,
Chitoro's voice softened, his throat rough as he spoke,
"Sasori, you have a great talent for puppetry, that's why... I taught you the forbidden art of human puppetry, prohibited in the village..."
Sasori, lifting his young face, looked at Chitoro, quietly listening to him continue,
"Only through human puppetry... can one surpass limits. Otherwise, no matter how great your talent, you'll eventually become mediocre."
"And... in that case... you won't be able to personally fulfill your parents' vengeance!"
Hearing this, Sasori's face tightened slightly, his small fists clenched tightly.
Glancing down at this, Chitoro spoke softly,
"I fought alongside your parents on the battlefield; I too wish... their child could personally seek revenge..."
"Even if that enemy is the 'White Fang of the Leaf'..."
Sasori's face tensed as he spoke firmly,
"I understand, Lord Chitoro."
After speaking, he stepped forward with small strides, beginning to bleed out the corpse on the ground for use in practicing puppetry.
Seeing this, a hint of admiration flashed in Chitoro's eyes.
A while later,
Chitoro walked along the village streets.
Every Sand ninja who saw him greeted him respectfully,
"Captain Chitoro, hello!"
He nodded lightly in response as a courtesy.
At this time, after the battle a year ago, Chitoro's reputation in the Sand Village had significantly risen.
He was deeply loved by the villagers, after all, they knew it was Chitoro who personally dealt with several attacking Leaf ninjas.
Moreover, he also saved the grandson of Sand advisory, Chiyo.
Without a doubt, this earned him the trust of Chiyo and Ebizō, and high praise among the Sand's upper echelons.
Chitoro had become one of the elite Jōnin of the Sand Village, rightfully so.
Walking on the street, Chitoro never forgot who gave him his current status and honor.
The person who seemed to vanish for a year, Chitoro never doubted his return.
After all, as a follower, he was acutely aware of who stirred up the recent years of strife among the major ninja villages!
It was that person, subtly inciting everything from the shadows.
And Aizen-sama, possessing such power, would surely return in a shocking manner.
Because, as he had said, the new future had not yet arrived, and the ugly era of ninja had not yet been broken.
Thinking this, a glint passed through Chitoro's bell-like eyes.
At that moment,
A little girl stood in front of him, blocking his path with her hand.
Looking up, unafraid, she said in a milky voice,
"Daddy, hug."
Looking down at the adorable little girl, a smile spread across Chitoro's rough face, and he lifted her high into the air with one hand.
"Then, get ready, Karura!"
"Daddy will make you fly~"
As his words fell, he lifted Karura high, placing her on his broad shoulders, then sprinted forward.
And sitting atop his shoulders, Karura's young face beamed with uncontrollable laughter, gleefully shouting,
"We're flying, we're flying."
On the dimly lit street, a scene of warmth unfolded.
