After a moment of silence, Caleb Mamet straightened up and spoke slowly, "I completely broke ties with him because of his plan."
"What plan?" Xaviera Evans asked, puzzled.
Caleb took off his gold-rimmed glasses and stared at her intently, "Joyce Jones must have already mentioned it on the phone."
Xaviera was stunned for a few seconds before suddenly realizing, "You knew Wayne Reiser was scheming against me?"
"Yes." Caleb's deep eyes stared straight at her.
"But you've said before that we've never met, right? Even if you knew he was going to harm me, you wouldn't break ties with your mentor for a stranger!"
Caleb looked calm and his voice suddenly deepened, "That's the strange part."
"I'm very clear that I broke ties with Wayne Reiser for a person, and I always remember to wait for her at the Civil Affairs Bureau on an important day, but I don't know who that person is."
