Liya smiled sweetly, nodded at Lin Yi, and felt much better.
Everyone entered the ancient battlefield together.
All the way, souls floated in the air like smoke, singing mournful songs with eerie voices.
"Are they all the souls of elves?" Lambert asked in surprise.
"Yes."
Feeling the warmth of Lin Yi's palm, Liya no longer cared about these things and calmly said, "They are all my kin and friends. They have been lost for a long time in this darkness."
"Liya is right. We elves rely on sunlight to live. They are crying for help," Nerwin explained, looking at the spirits around.
"It's all because of human greed and the betrayal of the dark elves that this disaster happened," Karacule said.
"Talking about these old stories doesn't help us. The Black Dragon is our real enemy now. Let's find the exit quickly," Velskud interrupted.
The cause of the war between elves and humans was due to the dissatisfaction of humans with their victory over the Black Dragon. The dark elves also instigated, leading to frequent conflicts and an uncontrollable war.
"Cough, cough... Your people and friends, they've all entered my lungs, Nerwin. I can't see anything," the most heartless Barnac shouted, waving away the smoke in front of him.
"I remember there's an exit nearby. If we find it, we can shorten our journey," Liya said, releasing Lin Yi's hand and taking out a map.
Only Lin Yi suddenly sharpened his eyes.
Before anyone could react, he made a sudden move without any warning, and it was a killer move.
The sword Jörmungandr appeared in his hand.
With a stab from Lin Yi, a towering lava pillar rose from the ground. A black figure just appeared there, but before it could dodge, it was swallowed by flames.
However, at the moment the black figure was hit, it suddenly flashed and multiplied.
"What is that?"
"It's the Tongue Bat!"
Everyone finally reacted. Geraint's eyes hardened, and since Lin Yi had already made a move, there was no other choice. He shouted, "Don't let it escape!"
At this moment, no one had time to ask Lin Yi why he acted so suddenly.
Lin Yi squinted his eyes. The Tongue Bat, known as the hardest creature to kill, even anticipated his surprise attack.
But he didn't give up there.
The case in his hand suddenly dissipated, no longer having a shape, but turned into countless kakuhou. These kakuhou moved at an astonishing speed and were very agile.
Dozens of tentacle-like kakuhou encircled and intercepted, and in a blink of an eye, they dealt with four or five long-tongued bat clones.
The remaining few clones were quickly taken care of by Geraint, Nerwin, and others.
Everyone sighed in relief. If the long-tongued bats had escaped, their plan to ambush the Black Dragon's lair would have failed.
"Lin Yi, why did you suddenly make a move just now?" Geraint asked.
"It was just a subconscious act. Isn't the Ruins of Lost Time said to be perilous? I felt something was watching us, so I took action to probe. I didn't expect it to be the long-tongued bat. Fortunately, it was a close call," Lin Yi replied. His reason sounded far-fetched, but no one probed further since the outcome was good.
Just as everyone was preparing to move on, suddenly, a blue flash of light darted towards Lin Yi. Luckily, Lin Yi reacted quickly. The cace in his hand instantly turned into a shield, blocking the light projectile.
Everyone was startled by this sudden event, thinking they had encountered another enemy. Especially Liya, who had raised her longbow, only to find out she was aiming at Terramai.
Terramai held up his staff, pointing at Lin Yi. His angry expression seemed to have flames of fury burning in his eyes.
"Terramai, have you gone mad? Lin Yi is our ally!" Geraint scolded.
He didn't want infighting before they even defeated the Black Dragon.
"That pillar of fire, I saw it in the king's palace! And you, Velskud, why did you say it was just a common fire? What did you do to the king!" Terramai roared.
Lin Yi slapped his forehead, realizing he had overlooked this matter. His original plan was to take advantage of the chaos during the battle with the monster army to deal with them. He hadn't expected that a single fiery pillar would give him away.
But thinking about it, with the king's erratic behavior, doing many illogical things like praying in the temple to deceive others made sense.
Someone like Terramai, who was always by the king's side, probably had suspicions long ago.
"Terramai, no matter the situation, our most pressing issue now is to defeat the Black Dragon!" Geraint tried to mediate. He might have guessed something but kept silent.
People like Nerwin were already aware of the situation. Barnac, Lambert naturally sided with Lin Yi. Karacule was a witch, a natural enemy of the priests.
"I must find out the whereabouts of the king."
Being a loyal follower of the king, Terramai obviously wasn't going to listen. His staff began to glow as he started conjuring magic.
Lin Yi sneered.
Terramai was indeed loyal, remaining so even when the king was grossly incompetent.
Sadly, his loyalty wasn't directed towards him, making him quite an eyesore.
"Terramai, before we defeat the Black Dragon, I don't want any rifts in our team. I'm giving you one chance to stand down, and I might spare you," Lin Yi said. He wouldn't really let him go, but he had to say this in front of everyone.
"Lin..." Geraint tried to intervene but was stopped by Velskud.
"Geraint, if the issue isn't resolved now, it will be a bigger problem when we reach the Black Dragon's lair."
Geraint stayed silent.
If Terramai took action at the Black Dragon's lair, everyone would be in danger.
"You traitor!"
Terramai cursed, and his staff emitted a blinding beam of light.
Lin Yi closed his eyes, and suddenly, a translucent barrier appeared before him. The next moment, a deafening roar echoed. A ten-meter-tall armored giant emerged, breaking through the barrier with immense momentum, shattering the beam of light.
Terramai didn't even have a chance to dodge. The armored giant took one step, reached out, and pinned him against the wall with a single palm.
Its powers were on entirely different levels.
"Ah!"
Terramai spat out a mouthful of blood. That one slap made him feel as if all his bones had been shattered.
