Chapter 37 - Message to Anteiku

It was another intense clash between equally matched opponents.

Yamori exerted his strength, but suddenly, Lin Yi vanished from sight. Yamori, having lost the target, instantly lost his balance and stumbled forward.

In the blink of an eye, Lin Yi reappeared in mid-air, landing a powerful whip kick to Yamori's neck.

Yamori, a massive figure resembling a small hill, was sent flying and tumbled along the ground, crashing into a nearby car.

"Senior Lin!"

Koutarou Amon's face was filled with excitement, as if he had found a savior.

"Are you alright?" Lin Yi glanced at Amon and asked.

"I-I'm fine," Amon gritted his teeth and struggled to stand up.

"Take Investigator Mado to the hospital. Leave this to me," Lin Yi instructed, shifting his gaze towards the nearby cars.

"Yes," Amon replied, shouldering Kureo Mado and making his way outside, despite the difficulty.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Sounds of impacts resonated from within the cars, followed by the emergence of two scales from the wreckage. With a loud bang, the cars were torn apart.

A figure leaped high into the air, and the gecko landed on the ground, blood dripping from his forehead, his eyes filled with anger as he glared at Lin Yi.

However, he refrained from making any rash moves. The brief exchange had made it clear to him that this person was unlike the previous two investigators.

He was a truly formidable opponent.

A sudden ringtone broke the silence.

Yamori halted his movement, stood upright, and retrieved a phone from his pocket. Upon seeing the caller ID, his expression changed.

Meanwhile, Lin Yi had already charged forward, his Quinque in hand. Mid-air, it transformed, extending numerous sharp scales that resembled countless blades, thrusting towards Yamori.

Yamori controlled his scales to block the attack, and with a loud collision, he utilized the force to propel himself backward, landing on a high-rise wall in the distance.

"Bang!"

Yamori crushed the phone in his hand.

"I remember you."

As he spoke, he exerted force with his legs, leaping up. His agile Kagune embedded into the wall like hands and feet, enabling him to climb towards the top of the building.

Even with Lin Yi's exceptional physical abilities, scaling a hundred-meter-high building with bare hands was impossible.

He shook his head slightly and chose not to pursue. Instead, he looked at the collapsed Asaki Fueguchi on the ground.

"Are you still pretending to be dead?"

Lately, Lin Yi had noticed that his perception had become sharper. Even in an extremely quiet environment, he could hear Asaki Fueguchi's faint heartbeat.

He retracted his Quinque, returning it to the form of a sword. Raising it slightly, he aimed it at Asaki Fueguchi.

"No... please..."

Asaki Fueguchi, lying not far away, struggled to stand up. Surprisingly, his chest wound hadn't healed at all. It seemed that even as a ghoul, he had reached his limit.

"I want to live."

Asaki Fueguchi gritted his teeth. Despite his unhealed wounds, he unexpectedly unleashed his Kagune. Two tentacle-like scales extended, rough in appearance and resembling centipedes.

"What a waste of your Kagune," Lin Yi sighed. The Fueguchi Family's Kagune talent was remarkably high.

With such a top-tier Kagune, if Asaki Fueguchi were ambitious, he would likely be no weaker than Yamori.

Even at the peak of his condition, Asaki Fueguchi would still be no match for Lin Yi. The outcome of their battle was unquestionable.

Nevertheless, Asaki Fueguchi charged towards Lin Yi. But in Lin Yi's eyes, his speed was sluggish. Lin Yi sidestepped with agility, swiftly turning his sword and striking Asaki Fueguchi's cheek from the side, sending him flying and sprawling on the ground.

Approaching, Lin Yi swung his sword decisively, cleanly separating the Kagune from their owner.

"Ah!!"

Kaneki screamed in agony as Touka Kirishima tore flesh off his palm with her bite.

"Stop!"

But Touka Kirishima could no longer control herself. Feathers sprouted from her back, her eyes instantly turned red, and she charged forward.

"Wait!"

To everyone's surprise, it was Asaki Fueguchi who halted Touka Kirishima.

Touka Kirishima froze. She had witnessed Asaki Fueguchi being struck by a sword earlier, yet there were no new injuries on his body.

Lin Yi showed no surprise, wearing a smile on his face.

Touka Kirishima now realized that she had misunderstood something, but in this moment, she felt trapped in a difficult situation.

"Wow, those feathers are quite beautiful. It's the first time I've seen Kagune resembling fire," Lin Yi praised.

Touka Kirishima did not respond, luckily masked.

As for Kaneki behind her, he only wore a crude mask, using his clothes and hat to cover half of his face, always keeping his head lowered.

"Asaki Fueguchi, from this day forward, you are already dead," Lin Yi straightforwardly declared, kicking the severed Kagune on the ground. This was his message to the CCG (Commission of Counter Ghoul).

"I have a deeper understanding of the 20th Ward than you can imagine. It seems that the entire 20th Ward's ghouls are being managed by some ghoul organization. Though you are peculiar, refraining from attacking humans like a group of anomalies, you have saved me a lot of trouble."

Lin Yi spoke to himself, believing that by showing goodwill first, the ghouls would be compelled to contact him.

He had even more far-reaching plans.

"Honestly, I quite appreciate this kind of honesty. As long as you maintain your principles, I can allow you to survive, barely, within the area under my jurisdiction."

Lin Yi stated, and in the distance, the wailing police sirens grew louder, approaching from afar.

It seemed that after Amon went to the hospital, he had reported the situation to the 20th Ward Branch.

Touka Kirishima could no longer concern herself with all of this, especially since Asaki Fueguchi was severely injured and had lost his Kagune, leaving him extremely weak.

She gestured for Kaneki to carry Asaki Fueguchi, and the three of them quickly fled from the scene.

"Tsk tsk, this is the second time I've assisted you. Not even a word of thanks, Kaneki," Lin Yi muttered suddenly.

Midway through their escape, Kaneki paused in his steps. He heard it.
