Chapter 83 - TTW Chapter 83: Ghoul

After finishing a cup of coffee, Eto left. Following Lin Yi's orders, she warned all her subordinates not to engage in any criminal activities during this time.

She personally vowed to take action against anyone who disobeyed her orders, eliminating any potential threats.

The coexistence of humans and ghouls in peace had reached a critical moment, and Eto couldn't afford any unexpected incidents.

For a while, the overall crime rate in Tokyo dropped by nearly half.

The release of artificial food caused a massive stir and sparked intense debates.

Not only did it concern whether ghouls would accept the change, but also many humans already held deep-rooted impressions and resentment towards ghouls.

This was a conflict between two races, and reconciliation was not that simple.

However, the benefits of status and rights were now highlighted. Lin Yi, as a current member of the CCG Council with real power, championed the cause.

The Council had discussed the issue for almost a week before finally implementing the new Ghoul Act.

According to all media reports, all ghouls could now re-register their identities. Only those ghouls whose identities were officially recorded by the CCG would receive protection under the new Act.

They would be given new job opportunities and environments, but they were strictly prohibited from engaging in any actions that would harm human interests or safety. Offenders would be dealt with by the CCG.

The Act contained many details, spanning tens of thousands of words with hundreds of clauses.

As soon as the Act was announced, it caused a huge commotion.

Both human society and ghouls were engaged in discussions. Some felt that coexistence with ghouls, as dangerous creatures, was impossible. On the other hand, others believed that legally managing ghouls would further ensure their safety.

However, whether people opposed or supported the Act was not that important. As long as the Act showed immediate and positive effects, it would undoubtedly be widely accepted.

As for the concerns of the ghouls, they were even more significant.

Many ghouls were tired of a life of killing and constant evasion, while others ignored the Act. However, most ghouls remained suspicious of the CCG's true intentions.

After all, the CCG, which had pursued them relentlessly, suddenly claimed to want to build a peaceful society together. This naturally led them to suspect whether some grand conspiracy was at play.

For example, luring them out and then arresting them all at once.

At the CCG headquarters, today marked the first day of the Ghoul Act's implementation. Several popular television station reporters were present with their cameras, ready for interviews and recordings.

Normally, photography was strictly prohibited at the CCG headquarters, but today was an exception.

Lin Yi was personally present, along with dozens of civilian employees who were ready to process the registrations.

However, apart from the reporters and staff, the entrance was eerily empty, as if the CCG's efforts were about to turn into a big joke.

"I told you before, ghouls are just ghouls. How could they possibly coexist with humans? Those guys are simply irrational."

A reporter muttered to his colleague, expressing strong opinions about the Act and feeling somewhat smug at the moment.

"Shh, lower your voice. You can't say such things here."

His colleague reminded him.

Other reporters also began to feel restless. This was the first time human society and ghouls were encountering each other outside of warfare. They had expected some significant news, but all they captured on film was the autumn wind sweeping fallen leaves at the entrance.

"Director, should we send them back for now?"

Standing on the second-floor railing, Lin Yi looked down at the situation in the hall. The person behind him, capable of finding valuable information, made a suggestion in a low voice.

Lin Yi had felt that this guy had been with him for quite some time, and he was usually obedient, so he had brought him to the headquarters.

"Don't be hasty."

Lin Yi's mood was good today, and he casually replied, resting his hands on the railing.

He showed no signs of impatience whatsoever.

Suddenly, the reporters below became restless as someone finally arrived. The newcomer had green hair, a petite figure, and was wearing a light green dress, looking very beautiful.

She had her hands clasped behind her back and wore a pair of gold-rimmed glasses, exuding a somewhat mature and elegant aura.

"It's Miss Takatsuki!"

Some reporters recognized her and excitedly shouted, prompting countless camera flashes. After waiting for so long, they finally had a significant piece of news.

One of the reporters rushed up; he was a devoted fan of Eto.

"Miss Takatsuki, I'm your fan. I've interviewed you before; do you remember me?"

"Of course."

Eto nodded with a sweet smile.

The reporter was in a very good mood that his idol remembered him. Feeling a bit embarrassed, he touched his head and hesitated for a moment before continuing to chat.

"Then, Miss Takatsuki, are you here today to collect information?"

"No, I'm here to register."

Eto replied with a gentle expression.

The reporter seemed a bit caught off guard at first but quickly regained his composure and asked, "Register for what?"

"I'm here to register."

However, Eto had already passed him and approached a civilian employee responsible for registration. In the next moment, a pair of scarlet red ghoul eyes lit up for everyone to see, and a dense network of blood vessels surrounded her eye sockets.

Many reporters with weak nerves were taken aback and took a step back.

Some even dropped their microphones due to their inability to handle the situation.

The civilian employee was also stunned.

"Could you help me with the registration here?" Eto asked with a smile.

The CCG staff member finally regained his composure and quickly nodded, starting to ask Eto's name, identity, address, age, and other details.

Regarding dangerous ghouls, even if they registered their identities, they would still be closely monitored for at least three years. Only if they had not engaged in any harmful actions towards humans during that time would they be considered completely free.
