Moments later, I felt water springing on my face, gently coaxing me back to consciousness. My mind slowly cleared, and I realized I was lying beside the water spring I had admired earlier. The splashes felt relieving, washing away the fog of unconsciousness that had enveloped me.
Elizabeth's concern was visible in every line on her face. "We need to get her to safety," she urged, her voice trembling with worry.
Together, Ronald and Elizabeth carefully carried me away from the dangerous scene, seeking a place of refuge where I could recover.
As Ronald carried me on his arms, my blur gaze locked on Ethan. I couldn't see any regret of his action in his eyes, he was cold-hearted than I had imagined.
In the safety of a secluded room, I gradually regained consciousness, my senses slowly returning to me. Elizabeth stayed by my side, offering comfort and reassurance, while Ronald kept a vigilant watch.
The weight of the situation settled upon me once more, but this time, I felt a renewed sense of boldness. It was clear that my feelings for Ethan had clouded my judgment, but I vowed never to allow myself to be manipulated again.
"How are you feeling now?" Elizabeth asked, concern etched in her voice as she observed my distant expression.
I was still replaying the events that had unfolded, the hurt and betrayal cutting deep. Nevertheless, I managed to muster a response. "I'm fine," I murmured, trying to appear composed despite the turmoil inside me.
Elizabeth wasn't convinced by my facade. She saw past the mask I wore and understood the pain I was trying to conceal. "No, you're not fine. Physically, you may appear unharmed, but emotionally and mentally, you're hurting. I know it's painful to be unappreciated for the sacrifices you've made, especially when cruelty is the reward," she said, her voice full of empathy.
Her words struck a chord within me, and I felt the tears threatening to spill. I fought to keep them at bay, not wanting to show any weakness in front of her. "I will be fine," I insisted, trying to convince myself as much as her.
Elizabeth didn't press further but gave me a knowing look. She turned her attention to Ronald, channeling her trust in him to watch over me while she was away.
"Don't let Ethan come close to her, but if you can't do that, then inform me immediately if you see him near her," Elizabeth instructed with a firm tone.
Ronald nodded in acknowledgment, understanding the gravity of the situation.
As soon as Elizabeth disappeared from sight, I couldn't hold back the flood of tears any longer. Ronald was quick to come to my side, wrapping his arms around me in a comforting embrace.
I've never seen that look in Ethan's eyes before. Is he really going to let this slide? I asked myself between sobs, my heart heavy with confusion and sorrow.
Ronald gently lifted my gaze to meet his own, exhaling softly before deciding to share some insights about the Alpha's powers that I was unaware of.
"Ethan is the strongest Alpha in Midgard, and even without the Alpha's powers, he would still be the strongest. But those powers mean everything to him, and he's not willing to share them with anyone, at least not yet," he explained, his voice tinged with sadness.
The revelation puzzled me even more, as it still didn't explain how all of this was my fault. I didn't ask to be a carrier of his stupid Alpha powers, and I certainly didn't seek any of this. All I wanted was for him to be alive.
Amidst my tears and confusion, I couldn't shake the feeling of being burdened by circumstances beyond my control. I felt trapped in a destiny that was never meant to be mine, and yet, I couldn't escape the tangled web of fate that had intertwined our lives.
"You still don't understand, do you?" Ronald's voice was tinged with both frustration and sympathy.
"Understand what?"
"What it means to be a Carrier of the Alpha's powers," Ronald replied solemnly. "It means that you've mated with Ethan. Only a Luna can be a carrier of the Alpha's powers."
My eyes widened in shock and disbelief. "What! Is this how mating works here? I can't be mated to that beast out there!" I exclaimed, feeling a mix of fear and resentment.
Ronald's expression softened as he tried to explain. "The reason Ethan is mad is because half of those powers used to belong to his first love, Maya, our late Luna," he continued, his voice tinged with sorrow.
"So, you're telling me that Ethan was once in love?" I asked, feeling a sense of unease settling over me.
"Yes, he once was," Ronald confirmed, his eyes clouded with memories.
Feeling a mix of curiosity and concern, I couldn't help but inquire further about what had transpired between Ethan and his first love, Maya. Ronald didn't want to talk about it, it seemed like it was a top secret conversation.
Ronald's reluctance to discuss the matter further only deepened my curiosity about Maya and her connection to the Alpha's powers. It was obvious that there were secrets surrounding her, secrets that they were not willing to make known to me.
"How did Maya's powers become part of the Alpha's powers?" I finally mustered the courage to ask, hoping that this time I might receive an answer.
Ronald sighed, seemingly torn between revealing more and keeping the secrets hidden. "That's a story for another time," he replied, his gaze filled with a mix of caution and sadness.
Frustration welled up inside me, but I bit my lip, respecting Ronald's boundaries. There were clearly reasons they were keeping certain information from me, and pushing too hard might only close the door to the truth.
"We need to get you to your chambers." Ronald added, walking me through the corridors of the building.
As we continued walking in silence, Ronald suddenly spoke again, his voice filled with concern. "Promise me something."
I turned to him, waiting for him to continue.
"You now have the Alpha's powers, which means you can now defend yourself from the Alpha," he said. "Promise me you will fight back next time something like this happens."
I hesitated, uncertain about making such a promise. The mere thought of standing up to Ethan sent shivers down my spine. How can I fight with the Alpha? He already threatened to behead me just for having part of the Alpha's powers. I can't imagine what will happen if I fight back.
Ronald's expression softened, understanding the fear that gripped my heart. "Emily, you need to realize your own strength. You may have once been an ordinary human slave, but now you possess the power of an Alpha. You're stronger than most Alphas in Midgard , and you must learn to embrace that strength."
He placed a comforting hand on my shoulder, his gaze filled with determination. "You have the potential to change the course of your destiny now, but to do that, you must believe in yourself and your new personality. Promise me you'll try."
I knew that Ronald was right. I couldn't hide from my destiny or the powers I now possessed. With a deep breath, I nodded, looking into Ronald's eyes. "I promise, Ronald. I'll try."
"I will love to see you try!" A voice echoed from behind us. It was Ethan.
Fear gripped both Ronald and me, but my concern was greater for Ronald. He had just advised me to fight the Alpha using the Alpha's powers. I wondered what fate awaited him now.
My heart pounded in my chest as I turned to face Ethan, who stood there with anger in his eyes. Ronald's advice had put us in a dangerous position, and I couldn't help but worry for him.
"Ethan, I... we didn't mean any disrespect," Ronald stammered, trying to diffuse the tension in the air.
But Ethan's expression remained relentless, and his gaze was fixed on me. "So, you're both plotting rebellion against me, huh?!" he asked, his voice laced with bitterness.
I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. "No, we're nothing plotting anything. I just want us to find a way to work this out," I said, my voice unwavering.
Ethan's jaw tightened, and I could see the struggle within him. The idea of sharing what he had with Maya was undoubtedly challenging for him.
"Is this what you really want, Emily?" he asked, "To be my equal, to be Luna?"
I hesitated, unsure of how to answer. Becoming a Luna was never part of my plans. "I never asked for this power, and if there's a way to give it back, I will definitely do that," I replied, meeting his gaze with determination.
"Of course there's a way. When Maya died, her Alpha's powers returned to me." Ethan voiced out.
What! Is Ethan really going to kill me in other to get back the Alpha's powers?
