Kier opened his eyes. The morning sky was there, between the top edges of the two buildings where he'd cornered the thugs.
Irel's voice came from below. "Are you OK?"
Kier looked down at the girl with wide eyes and a smile. "I think I am." He picked her up to carry her in one arm. "By the four colors of Dit's brothers, I think I am."
Ina approached Kier. The fatherly way in which the Mage held Irel drew her towards them. "What happened?"
Kier's eyes darted to look at Ina. "Can I kiss you?"
