"You have to picture the Runes, every stroke of them, taking form in your mind," said Medes.  "As if you were writing them. Kier says it helps him to imagine them as if they were red hot lines extending and connecting."

Ina nodded. "OK."

"Then you have to read the Runes, say them out loud."

"I don't know how to pronounce them."

"I do. Just memorize the runes first."

"But there's ten of them."

"Please, Ina." said Peppermint. She bent her front legs, anguish clear in her face.

Ina looked at her Familiar. Why are you so worried about him now? she wondered.

"Please," Mint insisted.

Ina closed her eyes, imagining the Runes, points of ink that extended into lines, connecting. She memorized the first rune, then looked at the next one and repeated the process.

A warmth grew in her chest. The very same warmth she felt when she used her Components to work her magic.
