Chapter 8 - Chapter 6 - A Desperate Plea

**Location:** Old Dominion Library, University Corridors

**Time:** Present day

---

As I continued my relentless search for the old man in the labyrinthine halls of the Old Dominion Library, I couldn't help but feel a growing sense of frustration. Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months, yet the old man remained an enigma, nowhere to be found. I combed through countless shelves, poring over books and manuscripts, but I had barely scratched the surface of the vast knowledge that lay within.

However, my pursuit of answers took a backseat as the university examinations approached. I knew that securing good grades was essential, not only for my academic standing but also to maintain the facade of success that I had meticulously built. My mind, filled with a wealth of knowledge, focused on the prescribed curriculum, studying diligently and pushing the boundaries of my own intellect.

Months passed by in a blur, with lectures, assignments, and late-night study sessions consuming my days. The library, once a haven of secrets and possibilities, became a distant memory. The pressure to excel in the examinations held my attention captive, leaving little room for other pursuits.

Finally, the long-awaited day arrived when the university examination results were announced. True to my expectations, I emerged as the top scorer, as I had done countless times before. While a fleeting sense of accomplishment washed over me, it was quickly overshadowed by the nagging feeling that something vital was slipping away.

As I roamed the familiar corridors of the university, a whisper of curiosity guided my steps. It was then that I stumbled upon an old room, its door slightly ajar. Compelled by an unseen force, I cautiously approached and, with bated breath, peeked inside.

What I witnessed within those walls would forever haunt my consciousness. In that room, an unknown man held a gun with cold determination, its barrel pointed directly at the trembling figure of a young boy. The air was thick with tension as a phone call played out, the desperate voice of a prominent politician pleading for his son's life.

My heart raced as I listened to the politician's desperate pleas, promising anything and everything to secure his son's safety. But the unknown man was unmoved, his demands unyielding. He commanded the boy to degrade himself, to rub his nose against the grimy sole of his boot. The politician, his voice trembling, urged his son to comply, promising a brighter future if only he would submit to this degrading act.

Time seemed to slow as the young boy hesitated, his eyes brimming with tears. In a heart-wrenching moment of desperation, he acquiesced, bowing to the unknown man's demand. But in that very moment, the man pulled the trigger, ending the young boy's life in a cold, calculated act of cruelty.

I stood frozen, my soul recoiling from the sheer brutality of what I had witnessed. The echoes of power and corruption reverberated through the room, exposing the darkness that lurked beneath the surface of society. My mind spun with a mix of horror and determination as I vowed to delve deeper, to uncover the truths that lay obscured, and to fight against the forces that manipulated lives with impunity.

Filled with a renewed sense of purpose, I knew that the answers I sought were buried within the depths of the Old Dominion Library. With each passing day, the hunger for knowledge burned brighter within me, urging me to unearth the secrets that would shine a light on the darkest corners of society.

I was about to embark on a journey that would test my limits, challenge my beliefs, and expose me to the harsh realities of a world governed by power and deceit. The old dominion beckoned me, its walls holding the key to the knowledge that would empower me to seek justice and unravel the intricate web of secrets that threatened to consume us all.
