Chapter 14 - INTERCEPTION

The scene transitioned to the streets of Watford, where the Gula continued their rampage, unleashing mayhem upon anyone in their path. Their monstrous forms mauled without mercy.

Suddenly, the sleek Aston Martin surged forward with undeniable force, ploughing into several Gula with astonishing precision, the collision reducing the beasts to mere rubble.

In a coordinated motion, Rory, Scarlett, and Captain Smyth emerged from the vehicle, ready to confront the remaining Gula who now turned their attention toward them.

"Alright, let's make this quick," Captain Smyth commanded with authority.

Rory's hands clasped together, a tangible aura of power surrounding him. As the robust beasts closed in on him, Rory's words resonated.

"Kalo: Hallowed Rugger," he invoked.

Instantly, a rugby ball materialized in his palms, its presence pulsating with energy. With unwavering determination, Rory held the ball aloft and charged forward, his speed ferocious and his intent clear. Upon impact, each Gula met their end in a violent explosion, their monstrous forms obliterated in the wake of Rory's unstoppable force.

As chaos unfurled on the streets of Watford, Scarlett's hands came together with a purpose that matched the urgency of the situation.

"Kalo: Blissful Capture," she declared, her voice unwavering.

In response to her invocation, a sophisticated DSLR camera materialized in her hands. Swiftly and with an artist's precision, she snapped a picture of the horde of Gula charging towards her. As the image emerged from the camera, she examined it closely, the photograph manifesting in her grasp.

Once more, Scarlett's hands met, her determination undeterred.

"Kalo: Monopod," she commanded.

A modified monopod stand appeared in her grip, sharp and ready. With expert precision, she wielded it as a weapon, slashing through the Gula with an agile ferocity. Each movement was fluid, each strike perfectly executed.

Meanwhile, Captain Smyth exhibited his trademark nonchalance, puffing his pipe as if he were taking a leisurely stroll. Yet, as the Gula drew closer, his demeanour shifted. His hands came together with a quiet focus, and his words held a subtle power.

"Kalo: White Chip," he intoned.

A single, white poker chip emerged in his palm. With a flick of his wrist, the chip sailed through the air. As it spun, a sudden gust of wind seemed to surround the Gula. Their movements became sluggish, as if caught in a dream-like trance.

Captain Smyth's hands converged once more, his intent clear.

"Kalo: Hand In His Name," he murmured.

Five playing cards appeared, hovering around him in an almost dance-like orbit. A quick assessment of the cards followed, a muttered commentary on their values. The cards, imbued with an otherworldly force, were readied for action.

Captain Smyth charged towards the lethargic Gula, his movements purposeful. The floating cards became weapons, each manipulated to strike with a precision that cut through the air. One by one, the Gula fell victim to the orchestrated onslaught.

Even as Captain Smyth, Scarlett, and Rory continued to wage their fierce battle, their combined efforts a mesmerizing display of power and skill, the gaze of Kimberley, Alko, Ren, and Udo remained fixated on the spectacle from across the street. The scene unfolded before them, a testament to the extraordinary abilities harnessed by this unorthodox team.

As Squad Smyth began their tactical retreat, the tense atmosphere weighed heavily on the bystanders observing the unfolding situation.

Alko's voice trembled with a mixture of confusion and concern. "Who the...?"

Kimberley's voice cut through the uncertainty, offering insight into the enigmatic group that had just demonstrated their formidable abilities. "Squad Smyth. They're the main squad in charge of this city."

Alko's acknowledgement was tinged with a sense of awe. "Oh...they're pretty strong, I can't lie. You think they'll be a problem?"

Kimberley's confidence remained unshaken. "I don't think so...as long as they don't get in our way."

Amid the aftermath of the intense battle, Squad Smyth exchanged banter, their camaraderie evident even in the face of danger. Yet, amidst the friendly sparring, Seamus detected something that commanded their attention.

"Shh," he instructed, his hand raised to quell the playful argument.

Scarlett and Rory heeded his gesture, silence falling over them as they listened intently.

A faint scream pierced the air, carrying a plea for help from a distant corner. Alko's concern escalated as he addressed the situation. "Did you guys hear that?"

Kimberley's gaze remained focused on the unfolding scene. "Looks like there's still more left..."

With determined unity, Scarlett, Rory, and Captain Smyth sprang into action, heading towards the source of the distress. Alko, Kimberley, Ren, and Udo followed, their determination pushing them forward.

Squad Smyth soon reached the distressing scene—a young girl cornered by a ravenous Gula. The child's desperate cry for her mother stirred emotions within them all.

"LITTLE GIRL: Mummy! Help! Please!"

Scarlett and Rory instinctively prepared to intervene, ready to dispatch the threat. Yet, Captain Smyth's intervention was unexpected—he moved to restrain his fellow squad members.

Captain Smyth's tapped his earbud, connecting to their unseen ally. "Annie. How's it looking?"

Annie's voice reached them through the earbud, her response conveying a sombre truth. "Her parents are in debt...Captain."

Captain Smyth's voice resonated with a stoic understanding. "Understood. Scarlett, Rory, this isn't our business."

Scarlett's tone carried a note of amusement. "Ooo, sticking to your principles, I see..."

Captain Smyth's conviction remained unwavering as he explained his reasoning. "There are two routes you can take: acknowledge us and be saved, or ignore us and put yourself and your family at risk. This falls on her parents."

The unexpected decision by Squad Smyth left onlookers like Alko, Kimberley, Ren, and Udo in a state of shock.

Alko's desperation was evident in his plea. "They're leaving...?"

Kimberley's voice carried an intriguing mixture of intrigue and understanding. "Interesting..."

Ren's concern escalated, and he implored Kimberley for action. "Kim! We gotta do something. The kid's gonna get chewed up!"

But Kimberley's confidence remained steadfast as she asked for their trust. "Not yet."

Ren's confusion turned to frustration. "What? Kim!"

Kimberley's cryptic assurance hung in the air, leaving her companions to grapple with a mysterious plan that had yet to reveal itself.

Udo's gaze remained fixed on the unfolding scene, his curiosity piqued by the events playing out before him.

As the menacing Gula seized the child, a sense of dread hung heavy in the air. However, a sudden shift in the atmosphere marked the arrival of a new player.

A man, unyielding in his determination, clasped his hands together, invoking a power that seemed to transcend the natural order of things.

" Kalo: Beautiful Game."

The words were accompanied by a surge of energy, an otherworldly force that manifested into a tangible change in the situation.

The beast's monstrous jaws were poised to close around the child, but fate intervened. A ball materialized out of thin air, hurtling through the air with unrelenting force. The projectile met its mark with a powerful impact, colliding with the gula's head and shattering it into oblivion.

As the beast's lifeless body crumpled to the ground, Squad Smyth halted in their tracks, turning their attention to the astonishing turn of events.

Kimberley's voice carried a mix of recognition and satisfaction. "There he is..."

Emerging from the shadows, Kenny Grieves stepped into view, a white plastic bag held casually in his hand. The scene before them held an air of mystery, the unexpected emergence of this new figure introducing a host of questions that demanded answers.

Kenny Grieves stood before Squad Smyth, his casual demeanour belying the tension in the air. His white plastic bag seemed incongruous with the gravity of the situation at hand.

Scarlett's voice carried a mix of astonishment and recognition as she processed the scene before her. "Is that..."

Rory confirmed her suspicions with a curt response. "Yep. The guy who's been messing with our business..."

Captain Smyth, the ever-observant figure, calmly approached Kenny, his pipe in hand, as he addressed him with a tone of curiosity mixed with a hint of danger. "So you're the fella who's been trying to play the hero lately, huh?"

Kenny's response was marked by defiance. "So what if I am?"

Captain Smyth smirked, unshaken by Kenny's bravado. "So what, aye? Going against the culture we've installed in this city? That's a death sentence."

Kenny's challenge was clear, his voice unwavering. "Yeah? Well, what are you waiting for? Come kill me."

Scarlett and Rory moved in tandem, positioning themselves on either side of Kenny, forming an ominous trio that closed in on him.

Alko's incredulous voice echoed the sentiment of the group. "They're attacking him...?"

Kimberley, always prepared, reached into her waist bag, retrieving a few flash balls. Her intentions were evident as she began to coordinate their strategy. But just as she turned to Alko to give the signal, a realisation struck her like a lightning bolt.

"...wait...where's Udo?"

Unbeknownst to them, Captain Smyth invoked his own powers, using Kalo to summon a set of five playing cards. His casual demeanour belied the lethal potential of his magic as he examined the cards in his hand.

Captain Smyth's voice carried a note of approval. "Oh? Full House? Not bad, kid..."

As the cards began to orbit around him with deadly precision, Captain Smyth's intention became clear. He unleashed them towards Kenny, the sharp-edged cards flying with deadly intent. Yet, just as the cards were mere millimetres away from their target, a figure crashed down in a dramatic entrance, enveloping the scene in a cloud of dust.

Captain Smyth's voice reflected his surprise. "What the..."

As the dust began to clear, a startling revelation emerged—the once-goggle-eyed Kenny now sat on the floor, while an unfamiliar figure stood before him. The figure held the five razor-sharp cards between his fingers with an air of mastery. And that figure, emerging from the dust and haze, was none other than Udo.
