Lily's heart skipped a beat as Lan Er, the maid, entered the room. Her initial fear began to subside as she observed the genuine concern and kindness in Lan Er's eyes. Lan Er quickly introduced herself and reassured Lily that she meant no harm.
Lily's heart still raced with uncertainty, but as the maid, Lan Er, introduced herself and expressed her intentions, a small glimmer of trust began to form within her. Though still cautious, she allowed herself to relax slightly in Lan Er's presence, feeling a pang of relief knowing that she was not alone in this unfamiliar place.
"Thank you, Lan Er," Lily managed to say, her voice soft and unsure. "I... I'm sorry if I seemed afraid. It's just that I woke up here, and I don't remember how I got here. It's all a bit overwhelming."
Lan Er offered a reassuring smile, her warm gaze calming Lily's nerves. "I understand, young miss. It's perfectly natural to feel that way after what you've been through. Please, try to eat something. It will help you regain your strength."
With Lan Er's gentle encouragement, Lily slowly began to eat the food that had been brought to her. As she savoured each bite, her mind churned with questions. Who was this mysterious "master" Lan Er mentioned? And why did he take her in? The note she had found in the room echoed in her thoughts, promising that all would be revealed in time.
Once she had finished eating, Lily mustered the courage to ask, "Lan Er, do you know anything about why I'm here? I don't remember how I ended up in this room."
Lan Er's expression softened with empathy. "I'm afraid I don't have all the answers, young miss. I only know that our master brought you here for a reason. He is a kind and caring man, and I'm sure he has his own reasons."
Lily nodded, her heart torn between fear and gratitude. "I see. I appreciate his kindness, but I can't help but feel uneasy not knowing what happened to me."
Lan Er's eyes sparkled with understanding. "I can imagine how you must feel. I will do my best to assist you during your stay here, and perhaps in time, our master will reveal more about why he chose to bring you here."
Lan Er noticed the whirlwind of emotions passing across Lily's face and reached out with a comforting hand. "Please, do not worry. The master has only your best interests at heart. He wishes for you to regain your strength and find comfort within these walls. Once he returns, all will be revealed."
Though uncertainty still lingered, Lily found herself gradually putting her trust in Lan Er and the master she had yet to meet. She understood that there were answers to be found, and for now, she would have to patiently wait for the pieces of the puzzle to come together.
