Chereads / Summoner of the Fairy Tail / Chapter 220 - Departure

Chapter 220 - Departure

The days passed quickly, and soon, the day of the Grand Magic Games arrived.

Early in the morning, Calvin was awakened by a series of knocks on his door. Opening it, he saw Ezra fully armed, standing with her hands on her hips.

Behind her was a large cart filled with luggage, and a few passive individuals stood nearby. Everyone except Erza looked utterly exhausted.

Natsu, Gray, and the others had awakened their Second Origin through Ultear's Arc of Time, but the process was accompanied by excruciating pain. They still hadn't fully adapted, feeling discomfort in their bodies, which explained their current state.

Calvin had heard that Erza also underwent the Second Origin development, yet she seemed unaffected and full of energy.

It made sense, though. After all, it was Ezra. Nothing is surprising about her enduring such an ordeal without issue.

All of this left Calvin feeling exasperated. They didn't need to go so early. He had worked late into the night to finish his last card and was still very tired.

Ezra wasn't in a good mood either. Seeing Calvin with messy hair and half-closed eyes in his pyjamas made her fury rise. Without thinking, she shouted at him.

"Today is the competition day, Calvin! Can't you be a bit more spirited? We are carrying the hopes of the Master!" As she spoke, she grabbed Calvin's collar and shook him vigorously.

Natsu and the others exchanged looks, especially Wendy, who was the first to be woken up by Erza. She was terrified, having already witnessed Natsu, Gray, and Lucy violently awakened.

At least Erza didn't use her fists on Calvin.

Under her shaking, Calvin's sleepiness quickly vanished. Yawning, he said casually, "Got it, got it! Give me a moment."

He shrugged off Erza's hands and walked back into his house, closing the door with a bang.

Erza's face immediately turned red with anger.

Seeing this, the team members expressed admiration. They couldn't believe someone dared treat Erza like that.

They thought Calvin used to be afraid of Erza, too. What changed?

They didn't know Calvin had a deep conversation with Erza two days ago. During this talk, he helped her strategise how to get Jellal to open up. This left Erza blushing, giving Calvin leverage over her.

With this leverage, Calvin was no longer afraid of Erza.

Calvin knew he was strong and wasn't scared of Erza's strength. It was her overly serious and stubborn nature that made him uneasy. Being targeted by her was never pleasant.

So, Calvin seized every opportunity to make Erza unable to trouble him, aiming for a peaceful life.

Erza had actually decided not to bother him anymore, especially after he had given her an excellent set of armor.

But Calvin seemed to have forgotten why he had given her the armor in the first place. Bringing up topics Erza didn't want to discuss easily angered her.

Especially someone with Ezra's personality.

Ezra decided to spar with Calvin dozens of times after the Grand Magic Games. She would get Ultear and Meredy to help if she couldn't beat him.

Calvin didn't make Erza wait long. He soon came out, ready, and seeing Erza's slightly annoyed expression, he just smiled and didn't mind.

"You're late!" Ezra said coldly.

"You're too early. With me, we'll reach the capital in no time," Calvin shrugged.

He pulled a stack of cards from his belt and selected his new mount.

Throwing the card into the open space, it burst into a dark light, emitting dark smoke that condensed into a majestic black dragon.

The process seemed complicated, but it only took a moment.

"What's this? It doesn't look like your Dark Bat Dragon but more like your Red-Eyes Black Dragon," Natsu asked curiously, always interested in such summons.

The others were equally curious, admiring the dragon that looked similar to the Red-Eyes Black Dragon but with slight differences.

"You think I stayed home for nothing? The Summoning Cards are completely different now. This one's called Red-Eyes Flying Dragon," Calvin said proudly.

The updated Summoning Cards eliminated many complicated procedures. Many redundant summons had been discarded.

For instance, this Red-Eyes Flying Dragon could transform into the Red-Eyes Black Dragon or switch to other forms as Calvin desired.

Calvin signalled for everyone to climb aboard, leading by example and walking up the tail. The others followed.

They were riding this summons to the capital of Fiore.

The only issue was Erza's luggage. There was too much, making it difficult to load onto the dragon's back. With Calvin's help, they managed.

The Red-Eyes Flying Dragon looked almost identical to the Red-Eyes Black Dragon, except for the lack of arms and smaller size. Its eyes were the same crimson red.

Designed as a mount, Calvin had equipped it with hidden seats on its back. They appeared when needed and disappeared when not.

Erza's luggage was also secured with straps, making this summon perfect for travel.

Everyone praised this design.

Once everyone was seated, Calvin moved to the dragon's head, dramatically patting it. His soul controlled the summons, which needed no physical commands.

"Roar!" The Red-Eyes Flying Dragon stood tall, roaring, echoing through Magnolia, announcing Fairy Tail's return to glory.

This startled Lucy and Wendy, who clung to Happy and Charle. The sudden shift in balance was thrilling, making their hearts race.

Natsu and Gray cheered excitedly, and even Erza smiled with satisfaction. Calvin turned to face them and shouted.

"Let's go! Let's claim victory!"

"Yeah!" Natsu and Gray responded enthusiastically.

With that, the Red-Eyes Flying Dragon kicked off, wings flapping, soaring high. It spiralled through the air, creating gusts of wind, with Lucy's scream echoing as they quickly departed.

In no time, they were a tiny dot in the sky, soon disappearing completely.

After all, it was the Red-Eyes "Flying" Dragon, excelling in flight.
