The noisy guild hall suddenly fell silent when Calvin stepped into the Fairy Tail guild again.
He looked around in surprise and then sighed helplessly.
Everyone's eyes were filled with curiosity and gossip. Calvin knew without asking that this was because news of his date with Mira had spread.
After all, both of them were pretty famous in Magnolia. Walking together with such a romantic atmosphere couldn't go unnoticed.
Within a day, everyone knew that Fairy Tail's beautiful waitress, Mirajane, seemed to have been won over by the King of Beast Tamers.
Everyone felt both envy and jealousy.
However, they also had to admit that Calvin was a worthy match for their goddess.
Calvin felt helpless and ignored their gazes, heading straight to Master Makarov.
Makarov glanced at him and then continued smoking his pipe, uninterested.
"Master, I need to talk to you about something."
"Aren't you going to spend time with Mira? I heard you two are dating?" As soon as Calvin spoke, Makarov's demeanour changed to curiosity, with a passionate undertone.
"Mira and the others went to continue their training. Besides, I'm not actually dating Mira..." Calvin said with a straight face, but his tone had a slight hint of unease.
Makarov didn't notice this unease and sighed regretfully, "I see, I thought you two were together. But don't lose heart, I think Mira is still interested in you."
"Uh... Master, that's not what I wanted to talk about..."
"Is that so..." Makarov's interest faded, and he responded half-heartedly.
Seeing the disdainful look on his guild master's face, Calvin was at a loss for words. Is this the master? Aren't I your most prized disciple? Don't you value me the most?
Makarov's attitude made a few veins pop on Calvin's forehead.
"Speak, what's on your mind?" Makarov stopped teasing and became slightly more serious, asking softly.
"Master, I want to learn the three great Fairy magics!"
Makarov was startled and looked at Calvin with a puzzled expression.
"What's this about? Didn't you show no interest in learning 'Fairy Law' before?"
"That was in the past. Back then, I was arrogant and thought that just using 'Summoning Cards' would make me the top wizard."
"You're already a top wizard now. In Fiore, who would dare to claim they're better than you?" Makarov said.
"Yes, but compared to Acnologia, this level of strength is nothing to be proud of." Calvin said seriously.
Makarov wanted to open his head and look inside. Of all comparisons, why choose that monster?
"That's a bit extreme..." Makarov said helplessly.
"Who can guarantee we won't encounter him again in the future."
Calvin's simple statement left Makarov speechless. Accurate; before meeting Acnologia, who would have thought they would encounter him?
Even Gildarts didn't expect it.
"I understand. Well then, I'll teach you 'Fairy Law'."
"But I want to learn all three," Calvin quickly said.
Makarov's face turned into one of shock. He stared at Calvin in disbelief. He didn't know how to react for a moment.
After a while, he softly said, "Don't be so naive. Even I have only mastered 'Fairy Law'. Do you know why they are called superior magic?"
"Because their power and difficulty far exceed normal standards," Calvin immediately replied.
"So you know this, yet you still want to learn them all? I can't teach you; I don't even know them!"
Makarov's attitude showed he didn't want to discuss it further.
Calvin understood Makarov's feelings. Perhaps in Makarov's eyes, Calvin now appeared as an overly ambitious kid.
But Calvin had his reasons.
"Master, aren't there any records of the three great magics?" Calvin gave up on Makarov teaching him and decided to look in the library himself.
Since these magics were named after the guild, it made sense that there would be records.
"Uh... well, I'm not too sure." Makarov looked a bit uneasy, with a hint of guilt.
Calvin stared at him wordlessly.
You've been the guild master for two generations and don't even know about the guild's archives?
Unbelievable.
"Is it my fault? You know how many books the guild has. How could I read them all? Even Levy can't do that!"
It was as if Makarov read Calvin's mind and suddenly lost his temper, shouting angrily.
Calvin sighed wearily, "Fine, I'll look for myself. Asking you was a mistake..."
Makarov felt heartbroken and didn't know how to respond, only watching Calvin leave with a look of frustration.
"If the fifth master can't teach you, then let me teach you." Suddenly, a clear, childish voice caught the attention of both Makarov and Calvin.
They turned toward the voice and saw a small, barefoot girl with bright, interested eyes, eager to help.
Calvin and Makarov reacted differently. Calvin was surprised but soon showed a warm smile, the same smile he used to coax Cana when she was little.
On the other hand, Makarov looked utterly shocked, his jaw almost hitting the ground.
Though he had recognised the voice, seeing the person before him was still startling.
Wasn't this elder supposed to be on Tenrou Island? Why was she suddenly here?
Or could she roam freely?
As a ghost, was this okay?
"Little girl, thank you for your kindness, but big brother and grandpa are discussing advanced magic," Calvin said politely, implying that she should go play elsewhere.
He patted the girl's hair, a trick that always worked on Cana.
But Calvin didn't realise his attitude scared Makarov.
No respect for elders?
Makarov wanted to defend the girl, his fist enlarging like a confident rubber man entering Gear Third, just short of turning black.
However, did this girl need Makarov's help?
Despite her petite appearance, the girl had always been optimistic, but she didn't like being treated like a child.
In her heart, she always considered herself a mature woman.
Calvin's patronising attitude angered her.
Her face turned red as she glared at Calvin, an oddly cute but deadly look.
A giant wolf-like monster placed its paw lightly on Calvin's head, making him freeze.
Calvin didn't doubt that if the monster squeezed, his head would be crushed.
Cold sweat dripped from his forehead.
"Celestial Beast Fenrir!"
Calvin was stunned, unable to react, feeling like the monster appeared out of nowhere.
"Summoning magic? Isn't this speed unfair?"
"Master, who is this little girl? Did you recruit a new powerful member?" Calvin asked, his disbelief evident.
He swore that even he couldn't summon this quickly.
"Ahem! Show some respect. This is our Fairy Tail founder, First Master Mavis."
Calvin felt extremely awkward upon hearing this.
The first master? Didn't that mean she knew the three great Fairy magics?
Had he offended her, would she still teach him?
Why did the first master's ghost look like a little girl? This was a disaster!
