At that moment, Chthon waved his hands, summoning an immense amount of dark energy from countless dimensions within the multiverse. In this multiverse, the number of practitioners of dark magic was as numerous as those who practised white magic.
Chthon, representing the source of dark magic, could harness the dark magic of all practitioners, absorbing their flesh, souls, and power whenever he desired. However, using the power of a god came at a price, and now Chthon needed these forces.
Wang Yan observed Chthon before him as a gigantic space rift resembling a black hole formed. It was as if Chthon had torn a rift in the universe itself.
Countless dark energies merged into Chthon, making his body pitch black and even more colossal and oppressive.
"My power is endless!" Chthon declared. "This world will continue as always, and my greatness as a Dark God will be the ultimate testament! As the source of dark magic, I will gather the dark magic of the multiverse and become truly magnificent!"
The convergence of dark energy made the universe tremble. This vast cosmos was filled with dark magic users, including powerful sorcerers like the Ancient One, who occasionally used dark magic despite its costs.
Even the Ancient One had to pay a price for using dark magic. Generally, these dark gods or demonic entities wouldn't bother intervening, allowing practitioners to use any magic they desired. The Ancient One's closeness to powerful beings like Eternity made many dark gods and demonic entities refrain from seeking retribution, fearing conflict with such mighty forces.
But most sorcerers weren't as fortunate. Ordinary dark magic practitioners, relying on dark magic for survival, could never escape its grasp. When Chthon demanded a price, these sorcerers had to pay. Countless beings in the universe perished instantly, with many in high positions among them.
Entire civilisations, like the Kree Empire and the Nova Corps, were not exempt. Many had traded their lives for power, resulting in mass death and chaos as Chthon absorbed their energy and souls.
Numerous souls and dark energies were drawn from the multiverse, strengthening Chthon. Major civilisations fell into chaos, feeling an apocalyptic destruction.
Even the most potent civilisations withdrew into their fortresses, fearing the repercussions. The multiverse was in turmoil, and the universe Wang Yan inhabited fared no better.
The Kree homeworld was thrown into chaos. Once a pinnacle of technological advancement, the planet was engulfed in turmoil and warfare. The overwhelming dark energy incapacitated the Supreme Intelligence, their AI ruler, leading to anarchy and internal strife among the Kree.
The Kree's sprawling cities were littered with bodies, victims of the internal conflict spurred by Chthon's dark influence. This was just one example of the chaos unleashed by the dark god.
Chthon's dark power could awaken the darkness within beings, turning them into savage beasts. Planets teeming with life turned into battlegrounds; even the Nova Corps' home, Xandar, wasn't spared from the carnage.
Such scenes of slaughter unfolded across the cosmos. Only the most robust or resolute beings could resist the onslaught of dark power, but they were few and far between.
Thanos spent a lifetime and countless schemes to gather the Infinity Stones and halve the universe's population. Yet, Chthon, with a mere gesture, caused similar devastation effortlessly.
His mere presence altered the cosmos. The only sanctuary was Earth, shielded by powerful magic.
At S.W.O.R.D. headquarters, Nick Fury observed the distant battlefield. Alarms blared as reports came in from across the galaxy. A projection of Captain Marvel appeared, looking dishevelled and bloodied.
"Fury, how's Earth?" Captain Marvel asked urgently.
"Captain, what happened to you?" Fury was shocked. Captain Marvel, one of the most powerful beings he knew, was rarely injured, yet she looked battered.
"Is Earth safe? Thank goodness," she sighed in relief, deducing from Fury's expression.
"What's going on, Captain?" Fury pressed, sensing the gravity of the situation.
"The entire universe has gone mad!" she exclaimed, turning her camera to show scenes of utter devastation. Alien corpses lay everywhere, with countless beings fighting savagely.
"What happened?" Fury asked, shocked at the apocalyptic scenes.
"I don't know. One moment I was helping them, the next, it was like they were infected with madness," she explained. "It's not just here—Andromeda, Xandar... it's everywhere!"
Fury understood the scale of the catastrophe. "Is Earth really untouched?" Captain Marvel asked, hoping for some solace.
"Earth is fine," Fury assured her. "Thank goodness," she breathed.
"But why is Earth the only place unaffected?" she wondered aloud.
Fury looked outside, seeing Chthon's dark energy clashing with Wang Yan's defences. "I think I know why," he said grimly.
"What is it?" Captain Marvel asked, sensing his seriousness.
"A god is trying to attack Earth. He's shrouded in dark energy, nearly blinding our sensors," Fury explained.
"A god?" she echoed, shocked. She knew of divine beings in the cosmos, revered for their wisdom or power.
"This god is affecting the entire universe to target Earth," Fury continued.
"Then why isn't Earth affected?" she questioned further.
"Because of the sorcerer from Kamar-Taj—Wang Yan," Fury said. "He's blocking the god's influence on Earth."
"It's him!" Captain Marvel recalled meeting Wang Yan during the Skrull invasion. She realised his power had grown significantly since then, even capable of resisting a god.
"But can Wang Yan make the god leave? No one knows," Fury admitted, feeling powerless. Wang Yan could hold off the god's power, but for how long remained uncertain.
