Chapter 16 - a new friendship

By the time I was done sending my mail, lunchtime was over. I became very aware of how hungry I was, yet it was not appropriate to ask for food at this hour. I decided to take a walk outside, maybe head for the gardens and have some tea.

I walked through the long cold corridors, wearing the same dress I had on since the morning, a velvet red dress that covers me from my neck to my wrists and down to my ankles, and my head enveloped in a thick shawl.the hems were embroidered in gold, my name spelled on my sleeves in a beautiful cursive design, like every other dress I own. It was a distinctive feature of my clothes, I was the only princess to the richest empire on land after all, and a very spoiled one as well.

I lived in luxury, I breathed luxury, I loved luxury. My family spared no expenses buying me whatever my heart desired, so much that poets wrote  about how even kings of other nations are not wealthy enough to satisfy my greed. It is not greed, if I were asked, it is every woman's desire, to be spoiled rotten, to spend to her heart's content. I am merely another woman, a woman who had the same desires and was lucky enough to be born in an environment that can support her spending habits.

As I reached the garden I noticed two knights sitting on the patio, one with long silver hair, etheral beautiful silver-white hair that I was very jealous of, the other had extremely short black hair. I approached the two, deciding it was best to have a conversation instead of not acknowledge them.

'' Good evening gentelmen! May I join you?'' I asked using the best feminine voice I could muster.

The knights stood hurriedly, the long-haired one blushing as he answered:'' My lady! I mean your highness! I … I haven't seen you coming. Please come''

I approached them, smiling warmly as I introduced myself, an unnecessary move since they already know who I were yet we were not introduced, and I wanted to appear humble to the two young men in front of me:'' Hello, I am El-Huaria, very nice to meet you.''

'' Your highness,'' said the two in unison as they bowed their heads.'' my name is Axel Christoffer, and this is my friend Elijah Christoffer, it is an honour to finally meet you.'' spoke the one I envy. He seemed to be of the chatty type, which made him seem more approachable.

'' It is a pleasure to meet you as well, I was wondering if you have room for a guest?'' I asked, as genuinely as one could.

The other knight, the one called Elijah averted his gaze, eyes on the ground as he excused himself '' Of course your highness, however I'm afraid I can no longer stay.  If you excuse me, I have a few matters to tend to.'' said he in a low but assertive voice

'' Of course, you may leave''

'' Until we meet again, your highness.'' he said as he kissed the back of my hand before he left.

I turned my attention to Axel, who started apologising for his friend's behaviour but I cut him off:'' Please do not, I am aware how busy it can be.''  I said with a smile.

The knight, who now seems to be young, answered with a blush:'' Thank you, your highness. You are indeed very gracious, and more beautiful than one could describe you to be.''

'' Thank you, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.'' answered I.

'' Would you like to have a tour of the garden, your highness?''

'' Yes please, I did not have the chance to see the famous gardens of the Rawclaws, but please call me Huara.''

'' Your highness I could never! How could I-'' I cut him off quickly '' If you'd rather say ' your highness' every other sentence then no, thank you, I do not want your tour.''

'' but your highness-''

'' No no, no more your highnesses. Deal?''

He responded with a sigh '' Deal. Now may I show you around?''

'' Yes please!'' I chirped back,'' and can you request some tea and refreshments to be brought over?''

''Your wish is my command.''
