Chapter 9 - Call me by my name

"Ohh" was all Sybil could utter. She knew one day he would be no more and this didn't suprise her one bit although his death seemed a little off. Over the years she had masters how to mask her true emotions and not let petty things shake her. Everyone who cared about left one after the other leaving her alone. She's felt stronger emotions but Darr's death didn't seem to faze her as much as she had imagine.

She had the same expression she had whenever she didn't want to seem like things bother her when they did.

Sybil took their order and went to the counter to package it to go.

"I'm sorry but how are you related to Darr to begin working here after his death?" Sybil asked the counter lady.

"I'm His step granddaughter." the girl replied.

Sybil looked at her intently and by looks of things, she seemed like a high schooler. She was young and pretty. Her face round with an 'O' shaped lips and a cute button nose. Her cat eyes.....heterochromatic? It was beautiful. The left side of her iris was almost the colour of the sunset while the right iris was an ocean blue with tiny perks of orange hue on it. It was a perfect combination. Her brunette hair was tied in a high bun above her head. She looked professional and somewhat surreal. She was very beautiful indeed.

"I'll take that to go please." Sybil walked out of the shop hastily after receiving her takeouts. She picked up her bag and left.

"Wait up Sybs. I'll drop you off at work." Diana shouted from a distance as she raced after but Sybil didn't bother answering. She had so much on her mind. She felt she was going insane. She had no clue what to do it how to do it.

Sybil walked aimlessly on the streets like a 'walking dead' and didn't notice the car tailing behind her.

The sudden honk of the car jerked her back to reality. She turned towards the sound and saw a blue BMW XM parked. The car looked all to familiar but her mind couldn't register where she's seen it.

The car honked again. The windows slid down and she was quickly pulled out of her day daze.

It was him, her boss. 'What's is he doing here? Does he frequent this neighborhood to? But I've never seen him around here before.' were all the questions spinning in her head.

She composed herself and casually walked towards the car.

"Get in." he ordered. She hesitantly got in and he drove off. He wasn't going at a high speed and he seemed to have turned off the AC.

"Why did you turn off the AC sir? are you feeling sick?" Sybil asked with concern.

"Sometimes it's better to open the windows and breathe in the positive air." He glanced at her.

Speechless, she couldn't say a word. Did her boss just use a crazy pick up line for her?

She turned towards the window and let the fresh wind hit her face not missing the way he glanced at her a while ago. How she needed this right now. She felt as if her troubling thoughts were being carried away by the wind. He mind became clear like a crystal and she could think properly again.

She didn't know why she was gloomy a while ago. She decided to get back and continue her daily routines like before or even better.

He took a detour and pulled up at the park. They got down from the car and went over to an ice-cream stall and bought two ice-cream cups.

He handed one to her. Sybil wonderd what this gesture meant. Was he feeling pity for her? She hesitated for a second unsure of whether she wanted to collect it or not.

She took it and thanked him. They went over to a bench and sat down. She ate her ice-cream slowly savouring the flavour. He got her the chocolate flavor which had sprinkles of dark chocolate chips in it.

She loved chocolate. They sat in silence enjoying the view of the greeny park. It was Spring and the trees and grasses seemed to be taking in the weather also.

They watch the kids in the park playing and their parents watching over them.

Contemplating on whether to start a conversation or not she decided to at least get to know a little about her boss.

"What brought you around here sir?"

He didn't reply her immediately but he seemed to be thinking about how to reply or ignore the question? She honestly didn't know what went about in his head.

He was honestly the most cool-headed and most introverted man she knew. He was definitely the only man she was acquainted with. She never got familiar with anyone for fear of discrimination against her colour.

She loved Diana so much for never leaving her despite the

hatred thrown at her by society. She was frowned upon anywhere she went and it sometimes abases her self-esteem.

"I needed air" he replied. Seems like he had problems of his own to. Everyone has problems and some seemed so good at hiding them but when it gets extreme....they burst. Didn't see like it for him.

"Oh. Is anything the problem sir?" Sybil asked.

"When it's just us can you call me by my name?" he asked her back.

"....."she stared fixated at him. She didn't know how to reply to that kind of question. Her boss telling her to call him by his name when they are alone? or employer and employee having ice-cream in the park worrying about their problems together? it's not said out but the atmosphere around them speaks about it.

He stared at her waiting for her response. The question seemed to have startled her. Her mouth opened and closed but no words came out from it.

"Umm...sure Mr Anthony". she replied shyly.
