Chapter 41 - Birth of the Dragon

(Tou)

"You guys are going to be leaving today?"

Today was an awfully cold day. The clouds obscured sunlight from entering, sunlight barely managing to peer from the clouds. To add to that, it was the north.

"Yeah."

Silva sat on the gates of the village, swinging her feet. Rar swung his longsword, still in its sheath.

"Then I suppose it's time for me to leave with you guys, right?" I asked, shivering. The cold was nothing to me. But after all, this is an elf body. I did not want to cause suspicion.

"Yep."

Ailsa came up behind me, wrapping a scarf around my neck. It was dark blue, and I could tell that she had knitted it herself.

"It's gonna be cold, Tou." she said, disappointment lingering in her voice. Even though she was sad to leave, she still made something for me.

"Ailsa, I really don't-"

"Just accept the gift, damn it!" Marcus slapped the back of my neck.

"Ack!-"

Ailsa giggled.

"By the way, Ailsa. I'd like to... tell you something. Can we talk in private please?" I said, looking down, with a flustered appearance.

"Ah, sure!" she smiled, following me.

We walked into the forest. The same forest that she and Tou scavenged into, a week ago or so.

"I have a surprise for you, Ailsa."

"What is it?" she asked, curiously.

I wrapped the blue scarf around her eyes.

In order to regain my strength, I have to get back to all my kills. All 700 of those kills. I'm not strong enough at all, right now. So it's best to start as soon as possible.

"Tou? What are you waiting for-"

A clean cut. The tool of decapitation? A knife I had collected from the orphanage's kitchen. For some reason, I couldn't help but want to scrub all the rust and mistakes off it. To make it as sharp as possible.

I suppose that was Tou's doing. Or rather, Julian's doing. Does he still manage to influence this body?

Her head fell onto the floor, her body following after.

Jeez, I feel stronger already.

[Cast: Grass Blade]

Just barely, I managed to dodge an incoming attack. A sharp blade of grass scraped my neck. I wiped the blood off.

There he was, Marcus. He panted, his eyes filled with an unbridled rage.

"T-Tou, you... bastard!" he yelled out, sprinting toward me.

"If you cry too much, your vision will become worse."

[Cast: Rising Roots]

Out of the ground, vines started to rise. I was caught up in it, my legs unable to move.

Without wasting any time, I cut my legs off, using my blade. Marcus looked even more shocked than before.

[Cast: Immense Regeneration]

Instantly, my legs grew back. Marcus's confusion grew even more. A single kill could do so much for me? Hah!

But that didn't stop him from charging at me again.

[Cast: Grass Blade]

Instead of throwing it, he gripped tightly on the newly formed blade of grass. It was sharp and the same size as a sword.

"You should've never followed us, Marcus. I would've killed you quick and easily."

He dashed at me. My right wing formed in an instant, shielding me from the incoming attack.

"Damn it!" he dashed to the side, trying to get into my blind spot. I grabbed him by the neck, stopping him.

"What was the point, Marcus? It's not like you were actually going to kill me. If it weren't for that weak heart of yours, maybe you and Ailsa would still be alive."

"Shut... shut up!" he yelled.

I crushed his throat. Another one is dead. It's just two kills, but I feel so much stronger! Soon, I'll be able to defeat that damned man who locked me in the freezer.

My left wing sprouted out. I started my flight, cutting through the air. I was heading to the village's gates, so I could fight off Rar and Silva.

They were strong. This might be a challenge.

I stopped, sending gravel into the air.

"Wings... of a dragon?" Rar's guard instantly raised. But he did not take his sword out.

"Rar, get ready. It's dangerous."

Silva pulled a dagger out of her pocket, raising it.

What were they thinking?-

[Cast: Iron Trident]

Silva threw the trident at me. It was really fast. If I hadn't been paying attention, I wouldn't have caught it. But I was paying attention.

"This... something like this isn't going to work on me-"

[Cast: Dark Flashstep]

My attention was brought to Silva for so long, that I didn't pay attention to Rar. He was fast, faster than the trident that was thrown at me.

But, my eyes could see everything. Every single movement. I blocked it with the trident that I had grabbed.

"Silva, go!" Rar yelled.

"Huh?"

[Cast: Iron Control]

The spear that I was holding dug into my skin, moving across my body. It stopped my legs from moving at all.

"Now, Rar!"

Silva threw the dagger that she was holding at Rar.

[Cast: Shadow Slash]

Luckily, the iron hadn't gotten into my heels. I used all the strength in my heels to leap and dodge the hit.

It was a failure. I still got hit, but I wasn't hit in the head.

My legs came clean off. This was to my advantage, wasn't it?

"Nice one, Rar!" Silva smiled.

[Cast: Immense Regeneration]

The smile on her face quickly disappeared, as a new pair of legs sprouted out of my torso.

"Come on guys! This is getting more and more fun!" I laughed, flapping my wings to stay in place.

"I think I'll finally need to take out my sword."

Rar slowly started to unsheathe his sword.

An ominous energy started to leak out of it. It hadn't even been close to halfway pulled out, but I could not stop shivering.

No way... that's.. that's his sword. No doubt of it. That's... his sword! But how could Rar have it!?

I started to flap my wings with desperation. I didn't care in which direction I was going. It didn't matter. As long as I could get away from... that sword.
