Chapter 1: A Little Boy and a Bucket of Water
A boy made his way across the Saint Beckon bridge. His body was scratched and bruised. His hair was grown past his shoulders and the light in his eyes faded. In his hands was a wooden bucket. The boy continued to make his way until he arrived at a well at the center of the village.
He grabbed a worn rope and wrapped it around the bucket. He lowered the bucket into the well and gathered the water. Lifting the water out of the well he could see that water was tainted with mud and dirt. The boy stared at the water. He knew that he shouldn't drink it, but it had been days since he and his family had any water. He couldn't just let them die of dehydration.
He untied the roped and started to make his way back home. The heat from the hot summer day would wear him down and he needed to get inside and drink before he passed out.
As he made it back home. He entered and looked around. It was as quiet as ever.
"Maybe Mother and Father are still asleep."
A boy made his way through the house. Past his room and finally to his parents. The boy opened the door and walked inside. The comforter where wrapped around the end of the bed and papers scattered about. The boy made his way over to his father's side of the bed. He lifted the blanket up from over his father's face.
The boy explained that he had brought the bucket of water back. He quickly finished up and placed the blanket back over his father's face. He quickly left the room shutting the door.
Thud! Thud!
The boy noticed the noise and went to investigate. There the boy found a group of men standing around.
"Hey, what's your name kid?" The one in front of the door said.
"A-Ace," The boy said.
"Well, Ace," The man said grabbing a dagger from behind him. "You know where your Paps is?"
