Chapter 52 - Chapter 52: Mishka prepares to visit fortune teller

Mishka went to bed with new questions on her mind.

"My grandmother has surely got a rich and interesting, but weird past," she thought to herself.

"How am I gonna find out if the rumours are true?" she whispered into the bedcovers.

She lay still for a while before jumping up again. A thought had just hit her.

"Grandma might have been part of a suspicious and maybe unholy alliance of fortune-tellers. None of them are left, but what about the lady that she watches her witch show with? I wonder if it's the same show that I watched with her?" Mishka asked herself.

"So, then, this lady could be part of that old group. Then the two of them are not just watching a TV show together. Maybe they're really powerful as witches after so many years of practice?" Mishka continued to wonder.

Mishka sat upright as she considered the possibilities surrounding Myrtle's past life.

"As long as that woman is alive and around, she can tell us so much. Everything we need to know about witches and maybe something about my grandma as well.

I have to go and meet her and then tell Aunty Joan about her," Mishka murmured into the quiet room.

With this resolution firmly in place, Mishka got back into bed.

"I'm going to ask the servants where that lady lives. One of them should know," Mishka whispered as she lay in bed, waiting for sleep to overtake her.

Mishka rushed through her training session with the trainees at work. Cook had given her the address of her grandmother's friend and so, she could not wait to go and see the woman after work.

"But, can I go there entirely alone? Isn't it a bit dangerous to meet someone like that alone?" Mishka asked herself as she sat at her desk, back in her own office.

"Gillian knows about grandma, so I will have to ask her to come with. He mother is too busy with music to find the time," Mishka thought to herself.

She reached for her phone and called Gillian's number.

"What, on a Monday night? I'm too tired of all the heavy work on Mondays," Gillian responded when Mishka told her about her plan.

"Well, I'm very anxious to meet her after Milla told me about her and I'm very curious to know whether she was a part of Grandma's group of fortune-teller group, way back," Mishka explained.

"What, your grandmother was actually part of a group of witches?" Gillian asked after a gasp.

"Well, at the moment it's just a rumour which Cook heard long ago, but I'm thinking that there could be some truth in what she heard," Mishka responded.

"Now that's very interesting. We should definitely investigate it, but this afternoon after work I'm going to be tired. I can go with you if we don't stay long, though?" Gillian responded.

"Then wait for me to come past your work place and then we can drive off and meet at the woman's house?" Mishka suggested.

"But, if this woman is really a present or former witch, then I would rather stay outside. I'll be too scared to go and meet her, but I will wait outside for you in case something goes wrong," Gillian proposed.

"Great, then I will meet you soon," Mishka agreed in a low tone of voice. He office door was closed, but she did not want to take any chances of anyone overhearing her.

"I wonder if I should confide in someone here at work? Then, I have someone to cover for me when I need to go out and also to watch out for me when I'm having confidential conversations with someone on the phone?" Mishka thought to herself excitedly.

"So, who can I confide in?" she asked herself as she tried hard to focus.

"Ahhh, the team who went with me to Bruce's house. Let me get them involved because we've already done projects together," Mishka decided with a happy smile on her face. Just the decision on its own made her feel as if a weight had been lifted from her shoulders.

"So, soon I will not be in this all by myself at this company of Dad's," Mishka told herself.

"Next thing is to prepare for my music presentation at Bruce's house on Saturday. The sooner I start getting a song together, the better it will look and sound on Saturday," she said and turned around in circles on her wheeled chair. She tried hard to think of a song.

"It will have to impress the Bruce, Lyle, the models and then, maybe the world?" Mishka thought, challenging herself.

When it was time to leave the office, her song was already written.

"It can't be a full song because they must tell me what they like, bit by bit," she told herself as she left the office.

Once in her car, Mishka began to rehearse the lyrics. She sang really loud.

"I have to do this at home as well. I should practice really hard to impress on Saturday," she told herself.

"Why am I looking forward to singing this song so much?" she asked herself after driving for a while.

"Well, it could be because it's so long since I sang for an audience," she told herself with a smile.

"Now, who's this who turns out everywhere that I make a turn out?" Mishka wondered as she looked into the rear view mirror.

"Are they following me?" she asked herself with a frown.

Mishka then slowed down to take a look at the person who was sitting behind of the steering wheel of the vehicle which seemed to be following her.

The car behind her then came closer to Mishka's unexpectedly faster as she slowed down. She could see the driver's face now.

"A blonde-haired woman. Is she actually following me?" Mishka asked herself as she turned off and drove to the side of the road to park opposite Gillian's office building. The other vehicle then drove past.

"I wonder if she would have turned out as well if I had turned out somewhere else again?" Mishka asked herself.

"Who can that be if I am being followed? Have I made any enemies lately? I will have to ask for Gillian's opinion about this," Mishka decided as she began to look out for Gillian's vehicle which was supposed to drive out of the building parking area at any time now.
