Chapter 45 - Chapter 45 Concerns about Mishka’s home

Mishka checked out Bruce's mansion as she drove by on her way from Church. There was no activity there. No vehicles moving in or out of the gates.

"That means that he doesn't go to Church on Sunday mornings. Nor does anyone else here. Does that means that they're all wolves or just not interested?" she asked herself.

"Well, I will find out when I get to know them all a bit better," she told herself as she drove on home.

Back at home, Mishka went to the TV room to watch her own favourite romance series. It was about a royal family that lived three centuries ago.

Mishka loved being taken back to older times and to watch how life was imagined to be all those years ago. It made her feel comfortable because it had all happened already and the lessons were already learned. So, there were no fears involved on her side. She felt contented when she watched it.

"Here's your tea," Milla announced as she placed a tray on the coffee table.

"Oh, thank you, Milla," Mishka remarked in response. She loved having tea on a Sunday morning when she came back from church. When her father went to church with her, he would join her for tea, but this weekend he was just resting at home.

The tea cup and teapot were accompanied by an assortment of savoury and sweet treats which Mishka loved to savour while she watched her program. She still enjoyed her lunch at the dining room table afterwards, because that was not so early. They did not have supper on Sundays as a result of the late lunch.

"Did Cook tell you about the nightmare I had after you and I were talking about that movie project until so late?" Mishka asked as Milla arranged the tea snacks on the coffee table.

"Yes, she told me, but I didn't have a nightmare. I had good dreams as far as I can remember," Milla responded over her shoulder.

"Well, it's because you're not a light sleeper like cook and myself. We heard something which made us have nightmares," Mishka remarked.

"Yes, she told me that you heard chanting. I always thought that it was on TV but then the TV wasn't on at that time," Milla responded in a whisper as she turned around to face Mishka.

"Do you really think that your grandma is losing it and making those sounds at night?" she asked.

"It does seem as if she was awake somewhere downstairs and didn't notice that Cook and I were in the kitchen," Mishka whispered back.

"Oh, that's deep. We must talk about it later, in the afternoon," Milla whispered before she went back to the kitchen.

"I now have too much news to tell Gillian and her mom. It's piling up," Mishka told herself as she poured her tea.

She resumed watching her program but could not focus well.

"I will have to get there today because it's too much news now," Mishka decided. "I need another walk in the woods to clear my mind, while I walk to Gillian's home. I can go right after this," she decided as she watched her program again.

As she walked through the woods afterwards, Mishka sang at the top of her lungs. She felt like a completely different person than the one she was on the past weekday when she had taken the day off from work to stay home and go singing in the woods.

"I met so many people since that day and my life feels changed, even though I'm still the same person with the same career and the same job," Mishka told herself as she walked to Gillian's home.

Once there, she could not wait to share her news.

"Whom will I talk to first?" she asked herself as she pressed the buzzer at the gate.

Gillian appeared on the doorstep while Mishka waited.

"Oh, hi, it's you!" Gillian called out in surprise when she saw her friend.

"Did you find out something else?" Gillian asked excitedly before Mishka reached her.

"Something happened and Milla and I were very busy as well," Mishka responded in a low tone of voice because she did not know whether Gillian's family had any other visitors there for lunch.

"Oh, were you so fast? Now I feel guilty. I didn't contribute further," Gillian responded with her eyes narrowed in concern.

"No, it was spontaneous. Don't feel bad, I myself just realised that I invited myself over for lunch," Mishka responded as she walked into the lounge.

"Oh, that's a nice surprise, though," Gillian responded with a chuckle.

"Do you have other visitors today?" Mishka asked in a lower tone of voice.

"No, so it's actually great that you came," Gillian responded as she led the way to the kitchen where her mother was finishing up with the lunch preparations.

"So, what did you and Milla come up with?" Gillian asked in a curious tone.

"We were just brainstorming so much and recording everything that we didn't notice the time," Mishka responded.

"I have a copy of the recording for you to listen to," she added.

"Hi there! What a nice surprise. We're really lucky this week. We're seeing you quite often," Joan remarked with a smile. She did not mention that she saw Mishka for lunch as well in that same week.

"Yes, it just occurred to me that I could just as well come over and share some news in person. It's safer than on the phone," Mishka responded with a happy smile.

"Oh, so something has happened?" Joan asked with her eyes stretched curiously.

"I think the servants are soon gonna find out that there's something strange going on with my grandma," Mishka responded in a more serious tone of voice.

"Great! Did they find out something strange about her?" Joan asked, pausing in her tasks.

"Something happened which will cause serious doubts about either Grandma's secret activities or her sanity," Mishka responded.

"So, there's some kind of evidence that she's not so okay?" Joan asked.

"Was she caught in the act?" Gillian asked with an eager look in her eyes.

"What act?" Mason, her father asked from the passage.

"Oh, Dad, are you listening from there?" Gillian asked in surprise as she turned around quickly.

"Yes and it sounds like Myrtle is in trouble," Mason responded with an amused smile on his lips.

"This can be serious," Dad," Gillian responded with a frown in her father's direction.

"Good afternoon, Uncle," Mishka greeted from where she stood behind the wooden table.

"Good afternoon, dear. Does it seem as if you're gonna have to move in with us to escape strange activities in your home?" Mason asked in a more serious tone.

"Things are now happening so fast that I'm not so sure whether it's all real or not," Mishka responded as she pondered the question.

"Well, if Gillian witnessed something strange about your grandma then it can't be your imagination," Mason responded in a gentle tone of voice.

"We will stand by you no matter what it turns out to be," Joan promised as she resumed her cooking.

"So, what was the evidence that the staff saw?" Gillian asked leaning closer to Mishka.

"Oh, we heard something at night," Mishka responded in a solemn tone.

"That sounds scary. Are you sure you can talk about it? It sounds as if this could be dark in nature," Joan responded with a worried frown on her brow.

"You mean your grandma doesn't sleep at night?" Gillian asked, her eyes big with curiosity.

"Uhm, what did you just say?" Mishka asked in shock as something just occurred to her.
