During break time, James approached Juliet who was playing alongside with Rachel.
Oh! See the students who wanted to overtake Julius, James said.
Don't you believe me? Juliet said.
Hmm! It just too absurd to do something like that, James said.
Don't worry I will, Juliet said with boldness.
But what is your plan? Rachel asked.
I don't have any for now, Juliet replied.
Like seriously! James said.
You have to be joking, said Rachel.
I think it is time to help you out, James said.
Are you for real? Juliet asked.
Once you get home, go to the nearest bookshop and get these books, James said as he gives out list of books to Juliet.
What! This is too many for me to read in a week, Juliet screamed.
If you can finish these books in a week, you can at least have 80 percent assurance of overtaking Julius, James said.
But why not 100%? Juliet asked.
Julius is unpredictable, you already told him that you want to overtake him this term, do you think he will sit back? James said
Oh that true, Julius will definitely take it up, Rachel said.
Anyway thanks James for your help, I will try my best. To overcome a battle, the leader must be defeated, Juliet said.
Wait! Are you trying to say that Julius is our leader? James asked.
Of course! You all respected him, Juliet said.
I never did. Do you think I can't overtake him? I just don't want to for some reasons, James said as he walked away.
Wait, what are the reasons? Juliet asked.
He won't answer you. No one knows what that will be, Rachel said.
That same day, as soon as Juliet got home. She didn't even wait to eat but went straight to the bookshop to get the books. She got the books James told her to get. hi hi On her way to the cashier to pay for the books, the books fell off from her hand. She bent down to pick it as someone also helped her to pick up the books. She stood up to thank the person and also collect the books the person picked up for her but she was shocked after seeing the person's face. The person happened to be Julius.
Wow! So you came here to get books just to overtake me in the upcoming exam? I know James would have told you all these, Julius said.
It's not of your concern, Juliet replied as she tried to walk away.
Do you think you can overtake me with all these? Julius asked.
Why can't you just wait and see. Why are you such in a haste? Juliet said.
Anyway, do you need my help? Julius said
I beg your pardon! Juliet said as she was shocked at the statement Julius made.
i'm just asking if you need anything, am ready to give you, Julius said.
Wait, are you teasing me or what? Juliet said.
No, am not. I just want to help you. Julius said.
Anyway, I don't need your help. Why do you want to help a demon? If you think I can't do better than you, why can't you just wait and see, Juliet said as she walked out of Julius' presence.
Granny am back, Juliet said as she opened the door.
Where have you been? Granny asked
To the bookshop to get some books, Juliet answered.
Juliet's brother ran out immediately he had books. He loves to read books a lot.
Can you give me some to read, he asked.
Oh! That will be good, Juliet said.
What is that? Juliet brother asked.
I want you to do something for me please, Juliet said.
What is that? He asked.
I will give you some books to read then you will summarize it for me. Can you? Juliet asked.
Hmmm! What will you give me. He asked.
Ok! Once you are done I will give you a special gift, she said.
Ok! No problem, he said.
Please ensure you finish it before five days, Juliet said.
Just leave that to me, it is my specialty, he replied.
During these one week Juliet denied herself on so many things like break time, hanging around with friends and she even reduced her sleeping hours. During break time, she goes to the library to read and even whenever the teacher is not present in class. Many students scorned her a lot and sometimes laughed at her. She never got depressed as she continue with her reading.
On a surprising day, Julius came to her and drop a book beside her. Juliet took the book and ran after him to return it.
Take your book, Juliet said
Hmmm, it not mine. I took it up that day your book fell at the bookshop, he said after a little thought, knowing fully well that if he said he just felt like giving her, she won't receive it.
Juliet took the book and read it throughout the day. The book consist of the summaries of a lot of subjects. This summary was done by Julius. As she was reading it the next day with the aim of finishing it, James came to her to see how hard she has been preparing.
Wow, you are preparing so hard, James said.
Oh yes, I want to make it clear to that bastard that I can do better than him, Juliet said.
What! Which book is this? And where do you get it from? James asked.
From the bookshop of course, Juliet said.
This is not in the bookshop. Let me see the content, James said as he took up the book to check it.
How do you get this? This is for Julius, James said.
What! So he lied? Juliet said in confusion. She stood up and ran out to check for Julius.
Wait, I don't get you, James said but Juliet already left.
Juliet checked everywhere but couldn't find Julius. She was later told by Rachel that Julius already left the school for a competition and he won't be back to school today. So the only day Juliet could be able to see Julius is on Monday and that is the examination day.
When Juliet got home, she dumped the book somewhere just because of the hatred she had for Julius. She focused on the ones she had been reading before Julius gave her his book.
On Sunday night, Juliet couldn't rest but she felt like reading the book. She just took the book up out of conscience and read it all. At the end of the book, she saw a writing which says 'I wish you the best, demon'. She hissed and became very angry at herself for reading the book.
After the assembly the next day, she took the book back to Julius.
Don't ever try to fool me again, you bastard! She said as she walked out to prepare for her exam. The exam lasted for two days. Juliet later saw how helpful Julius' book was but she couldn't thank him due to the grudges between them.
A week after the exam, a student rushed in.
Everyone the examination results are out, he said
Everyone came out and rushed to the school board because the first ten students' results are to be pasted on the school's board. So they all rushed out to see who is at the top. Juliet immediately was filled with fear as she heard it and rushed out to check the result.
