Chapter 2 - House was calling

Ronan ignored Rylan's words and focused on the knife. He played around using Aether to guide.

' A Path of Mist will be crucial for upcoming events. ' His thought wandered around.

Rylan on the other hand was bored. He looked at the bartender who was cleaning a glass. " George, I am thirsty. "

George nodded with his usual smile, it was more like a stone smile. He threw a card which landed in front of Rylan.

With a poof, a card disappeared and a glass of cold juice was replaced. Rylan observed a sudden Aether rush from the glass for an instant. He is studying how to efficiently use his mist.

A woman in her mid twenty walked over to Rylan. She placed her soft hand on his shoulder.

" What it is, Ginger? " Rylan asked as he brushed off the hand.

Ginger giggled walking in front of him, she sat on the chair. While putting her long white legs on the table, barely avoiding showing her underwear with her hand.

Rylan had been friends with her for a long time so he now knew how to control his lust.

" Boss. " Ginger called Ronan.

" I want a long vacation after the event. "

Ronan raised an eyebrow and confusion was soon replaced by happiness. " I see, he confessed to you. Congratulations. "

Rylan coughed after hearing Ronan. He looked at Ginger and saw her smirk. " Really? " He asked.

Ginger nodded and showed off her finger. It was decorated with a diamond ring.

Now that the proof is in his face, Rylan backed away. " You don't use any of your ability, right? "

" How rude. " Ginger said sadly. " I just pushed him. "

Rylan sighed. " She is late, Boss. "

" Who is late? " A loud voice echoed throughout the room. Rylan turned around and pointed at the source.

The woman stood tall, her fiery red hair cascading down her shoulders in wild waves, mirroring her untamed spirit. Her piercing green eyes, filled with determination, scanned the room with an intensity that demanded attention.

She wore a suit, but there was an unmistakable edge to her attire, a roughness that set her apart from the polished elegance typically associated with such garments.

Rylan got up and walked over to her and yelled. " You are so annoying. "

" Don't tell me about it. Back off. " Emely pushed Rylan and sat on his chair.

Ronan got up from the window and clapped his hands. The sound vibrated and it stopped all the voices they are making in the room.

Emely grabbed her throat feeling the movement of organs but there is no sound.

After five seconds, the soundless room became even more terrifying. But Ronan stopped it.

" Well, I believe all our members expect the new one to be here. "

" Who is that new guy? " Ginger asked.

She was busy in the next town so she missed a lot of things here.

Ronan nodded. " He is our final member I have been looking for a long time. Don't worry about him. You will train him. "

Emely yawned, " Tell us about your event. I have been dying to know about that. "

Rylan nodded. " Yeah, you even chose my ability. "

" Sorry. You guys had to wait for some time. Now let's split the assignments. " Ronan folded his knife and placed it inside his pocket.

He glanced at the bartender and said, " Aiden, your assignment is to store many crystals as possible. "

" What kind of crystal? "

Ronan tapped the table. He was thinking about the future usage of crystals. " Aether. "

Aiden nodded, " Got it. What about weapons? "

" I will take that. " Ronan said.

" For Rylan and Emely, for now just train and don't forget to pick up our new member. " Ronan smiled. He took out a piece of paper and throw it at Emely.

Emely read the first line and placed it inside her pocket. It was information about the location they had to pick the new member.

Rylan tried to grab the paper but his hand phased through Emely.

" Uhh. " He cursed. " Show me. "

" No. " Emely phased the chair as well as the floor. Rylan yelled.

" That bitch. "

Ronan ignored the tantrums and looked at Ginger. " I need you to seduce the governor. "

" That is a problem. I got a fiance. "

Ronan smiled at her words. " Indeed. I am sure you will do as I said. "

He slowly walked toward her and placed his hand on the thigh. " I am sure, right? "

He repeated. His eyes were cold, clear of everything. " Our goal is to stop this world from falling apart. You knew about it, Ginger. "

Ronan took back his hand and smiled. " I believe. You said ' Yes. ' "

Ginger nodded. ' It is your goal. '

Rylan walked outside the warehouse, he looked around for Emely.

People's noise rushed to his ears and some colours also appeared. The sun had set down after doing its job of providing light to people.

Night walkers had emerged from their slumber now partying their joys in the street. Rylan ignored the entertainment around him and focused his mind on Emely.

He walked over to the bustling street. The music was so loud that he swear he will lose his mind. He didn't know how these people enjoyed this life.

' I see why Ronan chose his Path. ' He murmured.

As he was talking in the street, a crowd of wild crazy people suddenly appeared. Their clothes were tattered. Some didn't even wear anything.

' Moon believers? ' Rylan facepalmed. They are the worst. Even worse than Sun believers. At least Sun had some self-control over their action.

He heard breaking glass.

' Need to fleet before the enforcers arrived. ' Rylan took out a mask from the pocket and put it on.

He walked fast. He didn't like running.

As he walked away from the chaos, the voice around him also soften. Not disappear but soften to the point that he can at least hear his voice.

' Look like I lost again. ' Rylan stopped his steps and looked around. He was in an unfamiliar place. Dead trees were used as decoration across the street.

' Seem like District 13. ' Rylan cursed himself. ' Ronan said I should never come to this place. '

Rylan looked around, he saw the light inside every house but it lacked something. He can't pinpoint the feeling but it was so artificial about the environment.

Yeah, it must be it. ' They are all empty. '

Rylan felt a creep inside his soul. It was not a good thing since he need Aether from it.

' I need to calm down. '

His legs were moving, he was helpless, unable to stop. ' What is going on? '

He knew he is not the one doing it but somehow all felt natural. After walking for an hour, he stopped at the ruined house.

The moon's feeble glow cast a ghostly pallor upon the crumbling structure, emphasizing its desolate state.

Vines and ivy snaked their way up the decaying facade, reclaiming the structure as nature's own.

Shattered windows, framed by decaying wood, offered glimpses into a forsaken interior where secrets whispered through the night. Glass shards glinted in the moonlight, scattered like diamonds upon the ground.

As Rylan gazed upon the entrance, the wooden door loomed before him, a threshold to the unknown.

' I feel a connection. A strange connection. '

He walked inside the house. Dust-filled air met his lungs. His eyes scanned around, as usual, it was a habit forced into him by Ronan.

Inside the darkness, his eyes were shining with light. He was trained to pick up everything in the dark.

As a follower of Shadow, one must become familiar with the dark.

Not long after the scan, he noticed a pool of blood on the wooden floor. It was flesh not like its surrounding.

He can feel the warmth.

' Where is the source? ' Rylan looked around, but settle on the ceiling.

" The blood came from up stair. " He said out loud to relieve the tension inside his mind.

" I want to run from this house but something had drawn to me. Something. " He said again.

Hoping someone would hear and come out from the darkness.

' I should leave. ' He turned around but soon felt an itching inside his soul.

Deep within his soul, the place where he kept the ability. The place where he became Path Finder like others in his small gang.

' My mist react. It never happens before. '
