By now, the Debt Maker had run to the outskirts of Miami, and the sounds of fire trucks and police sirens could be heard coming from the main part of the city, where all the destruction was. He was almost out of XP. Pertroski stumbled through a quiet neighborhood, looking for a phone booth to make a call. He wanted to call an important person who he thought would be able to get him out of this situation.
His eyes lit up when he saw a phone booth at the end of the street. The Debt Maker hurried towards it like a madman with a crazy smile on his face, but stopped when he heard a voice behind him.
"Death and the grave are closely following behind you. Look, your candle is dimming, and I'm going to blow it out."
The sun shone down on both of them, but as the Debt Maker turned around to see Death, the sky darkened as if rain was going to fall. Finally, he looked directly into her face, and all he could see was DEATH. This caused him to run away in fear, his eyes stricken with fright. He reached the end of the road and looked up the street.
There was an old, abandoned warehouse. It seemed like the best place to hide, so he hurried towards it. The wire fence that surrounded the warehouse was overgrown with vines and the ground was cemented all around. The warehouse was surrounded by pasture, and the building itself was rusting since it was made of metal. He leaned against the big entrance to the building. The inside was almost empty, only a few big worn-out boxes were scattered across the inside, and an occasional drip could be heard.
He ran inside and hid behind one of the boxes. He leaned against them and said to himself, "Things weren't supposed to turn out this way." He thought as he pulled a knife out of his suit, then he whispered, "Debt God, Debt God! Don't ignore me."
"What do you want?" The Debt God answered.
"Anything power, protection, XP, and in exchange I'll give you whatever you want, even my life."
"No," the Debt God laughs, "Even if you gave me all the money in the world, that wouldn't make me foolish enough to face the Death God."
"Death God?" His eyes opened wide as he came to a stark realization. He has been fighting an extremely powerful God.
"Yes, the god you're fighting is the Death God. Thousands of years ago, closer to the beginning of this world, Death went on a rampage, and all those fearing her were compelled to die. The way I see it, Turnner made a contract with The Death God, and now she's out to kill you."
"So, I'm gonna die?"
Yes, without a doubt."
The Debt Maker looked down at the knife and said to himself, "This knife has the same poison I used on the knife I stabbed Turnner with, which left his mind in a haze, so maybe I can do the same to her." He stopped thinking when he heard footsteps. Death walked into the building and said, "Hiding from me is pointless." She said softly as she walked past the crates where the Debt Maker was hiding.
He gripped the knife and lunged at her from behind. She turns and notices him, then says, "There Are Seven Ways Of Death." When she says that he's stunned, he awkwardly misses her and lands on his feet. His eyes become blackened, and he starts to stagger. Then he falls to his knees.
Simultaneously, the same thing happens to everyone in Miami. Cars crash into each other, people on the streets wonder foolishly, workers stop working, people in shops stay motionless, and everyone at the Cornerstone agency is left wandering about the halls with blackened eyes. Death now looks down at the Debt Maker and says, "Would you mind telling us the fourth way of death?"
The Debt Maker looks at her and says, "I only know my way of Death."
"That's fine; we'll let Tamari show us."
Somewhere in the city, in a restaurant, a woman sits at a table. Everyone's eyes are blackened, and a waitress stands at her table, saying, "Madam, have you chosen something from the menu yet."
The lady sat looking at the menu. The top of the paper has the wording "The Ways Of Death," and there are seven items listed on it. The waitress continues, "Our menu today consists of seven of our finest dishes. I suggest you choose the one that will be to your liking."
Hmm, I see." The woman's eyes scan the menu and she sees,
3. Death by Injury
6. Death By Explosion
7. Death by Massacre
But she takes an interest in the fourth dish and says, "I've made a decision, I'll take the fourth one, Death By Sickness."
The waitress takes the menu and says, "I hope you enjoy your meal." Suddenly the woman seizes up, her heart starts beating extremely fast, and her head collapses on the table; unfortunately, she dies.
Death now stoops down and looks at the Debt maker, asking, "Would you mind telling us the first way of Death then?"
"I already told you I only know my way of Death."
"Very well, Frank will show us."
Somewhere in the city, a group of people stand in a burial ground. Men, women, and children surround a Coffin ready to be sent into the ground, and inside is a man. He's young; his eyes are blackened; he's dressed in funeral clothing; and his hands are crossed on his chest. Two men in all black walk up to the coffin and close it, then a little girl in a red dress lets go of her mother's hand and walks up to the coffin. She puts a red rose on top of it, then smiles as she walks away. But think who wears a red dress to a funeral? or Who remembers the dead when they die in a coffin?
"Debt Maker, could you guess what the next way of Death is?"
"No, would you mind telling me?"
No, Allia will."
A woman stands on top of a tall building, looking over the edge. Her eyes are also blackened, and tears run down her face. Then she jumps off and falls to the ground. As she falls, all she can think about is why she should die—all the reasons that led to her Death and why she chose to die by suicide. Then her body hits the ground and smashes into pieces, and all of her hearts are smashed.
Death gets up and looks down at the Death Maker. "And finally, the last way of Death. I don't think I have to show you this one; you should know it well."
The Debt maker looks up at us and says, "A scattered Death?"
"Exactly, A scattered Death." Then, his body is torn apart limb by limb, so that his hearts and limbs are ripped apart and scattered across the room. Green energy flowed from the limbs of the Debt Maker and into death, which confirmed his death, and so the Debt Maker finally met his end.
50 List | No. 22 | The Debt Maker
Death speaks after he dies: "All the humans in this world are to die by these ways of death, and if a human dies by another way of Death, then it can be considered an Unknown way Of Death. This makes my ability completely Unavoidable for those fearing death."
When she is done talking, Turnner makes her aware of his presence and says, "I see you did the job well. But I would prefer-"
She dashes at him, drives her hand through the left side of his chest, and pulls out his heart. Blood gushes from the wound, as Turnner falls to the ground and coughs up blood. "Did you have to take my main heart?"
"I never specified which heart I would take. And from now on, this heart won't regenerate, so let's see how long you last with seven hearts." Then she turned into green particles and entered Turner's body.
Turnner gets up, wipes his mouth, and says, I'm gonna need a change of clothing.
