Chapter 25 - CHAPTER 24: AVENGING THE DEAD

AVENGING THE DEAD

Richmond, assessing the man before him, almost as tall as himself and had broad, tanned skin, his head was completely bald, his eyes as black as the shirt he was wearing, and his nose was flattened as if someone dashed his face straight on a wall, wearing tight green trousers that somehow looked ridiculous on him, the man was also looking at him with his dark eyes.

"You did this to this woman," Richmond said, pointing to the woman.

"Yes, I did," The man said happily, staring at the woman as if she was a prize he won, "sometimes, women are too stubborn, I have been trying to get her attention but the hoe thought she was too good for me so I cornered her and took her"

"You should have let her go, why did you do this?" He pointed at the woman.

The man didn't answer but stood still, smiling at Richmond with his mouth bent in a sneer

He looked like a dog suffering from rabies, Richmond thought.

Richmond frowned, he would have loved to give the stupid fellow a taste of his medicine but the woman's life was fading away, he turned from the idiot and took the woman in his arms, she was strong, he thought.

She was losing blood but she was desperate, she wanted to live, Richmond could feel her determination and he admired her strength.

Walking away from the madman.

"Where do you think you are going Richmond? The man snarled, his teeth elongating in his mouth, revealing his wolf heritage.

Of course, he is a werewolf, maybe a rogue, he thought.

Richmond became confused, werewolves have a strong earthy smell that was impossible to miss, but he couldn't smell the madman wolf smell, only his human smell and it was so faint, he couldn't smell it properly, how did you hide your scent?"

The man laughed, "don't get too curious, that is a secret pal," he said and whistled, the sound loud in Richmond's ears.

Richmond heard movements above his head, he saw people hanging high in the treetops, shaded by the huge canopy of leaves but he saw them still, they jumped down from the tree, he knew they were not humans but werewolves and like the madman, he couldn't smell them at all.

Instantly, he was surrounded by people dressed in black, he couldn't see their faces, they covered their faces with masks of different animals, staring at the woman, he knew he wasn't going to get her to the hospital on time.

The man laughed, "You are so rude Richmond, you think you are all powerful and the rest of us are scum,"

His voice sounded deranged to Richmond's ears.

"There is a bounty on your head, this big" he demonstrated with his hands, joining them together, then expanding them, "it was all a plan to get you here, the woman was just a bonus, I heard of your ears were able to hear sound over far distance, you lucky bastard," his voice thick with jealousy, "I decided to try my luck, I used her to get to you, I didn't know you will fall for that,"

Richmond wasn't afraid for himself but the woman in his arms, who was still fighting with death.

" Fine, you are intelligent and I have been captured, I am willing to pay you the full amount of the bounty right now but first, she needs treatment" he was willing to negotiate with them.

"The man sneered again, "You must think I am stupid, if you take her to the hospital and she recovers, she will expose me"

Dummy, you shouldn't have taken her, Richmond wanted to roll his eyes but he didn't, the deranged man might take it as disrespect.

The woman had lost too much blood already, he wondered how she was still breathing.

Richmond inhaled harshly, if not for this woman who reminded him of his mother on that dreadful day, by now, he would have ripped off the idiot's head from his body.

The man narrowed his eyes at Richmond as he heard him inhaling, "You think you are still on top, the price of the bounty is your head Richmond, you are cursed and useless, but if I kill you, I will go to your pack and kill your weak father and then, I become the Alpha of your pack and my pack combine,"

Thinking he was going to take down Richmond easily.

Richmond didn't take the man for an alpha, rogues? maybe but an Alpha, it didn't cross his mind, Alphas! always not satisfied with their territory, greedy little devils apart from his father, of course. Richmond smiled brightly, "You have big dreams, don't you? But you should know I am not easy to kill"

The man frowned, getting upset with Richmond's carefree composure, "Look around you, you are surrounded, no way to go but down to the ground, with your blood painting the earth"

Just then, the woman took her last breath in Richmond's hands, her remaining hand falling flappily, her body stiffened and turning cold.

Richmond felt like his windpipe had been crushed, he couldn't breathe, and the memory of his mother taking her last breath came up, wrenching at his heart.

Crouching down, he gently dropped the woman, facing him, he arranged her body so that her back was resting on a tree, opening her closed eyes, he whispered in her ears, "Watch as I avenge you," he said, making sure his voice was inaudible, even though she was now dead and unable to hear him, he made a vow to himself to kill the idiot that maimed her.

The man thought Richmond was losing his mind as he watched him whisper to the woman he killed.

Richmond stood up, dusting his legs, "You should have done as I asked before, you should have agreed to my offer but since she is already dead, I have no deal to make with you," his voice, threateningly low.

He allowed his fingers to elongate into claws, they were sharpened and ready to kill.

The man looked at Richmond's claws fearfully, forgetting he had backup, then he relaxed when he remembered, motioning to his pack, "What are you dummies waiting for? Attack him"

They quickly transformed into wolves, and Richmond was able to smell them now, it amazed him so much, the way they can conceal their wolves' smell when they are in human form, he thought it was cool but he had to kill them to avenge the woman just as he had promised her, they watched as the idiot raped and maimed her yet did nothing to intervene.

They rushed at him with all their might, almost crushing him down with their bodies.
