Ripple's laughter echoed as he gracefully departed the premises, his decision to leave for another day evident in his casual demeanor. Anne, who had witnessed his departure, felt a wave of relief wash over her.
Anne didn't know that this respite was temporary, Ripple was hellbent on having her for himself. She was going to witness more of Ripple's presence in her simple life.
As Anne collected herself, a voice interrupted her thoughts. "Where do you know that man from?" someone inquired beside her. Anne turned to find Irene, her co-worker, eyeing Ripple with a mix of curiosity and interest.
Anne, hesitant to reveal the peculiar circumstances of their encounter, simply replied, "Nowhere."
Besides, she wasn't close enough to Irene to discuss intimate parts of her life with her.
