Anne felt the weight of Richmond's concerned gaze as he questioned her well-being. His words lingered in the air, creating an awkward silence that Anne desperately tried to break with a forced smile. "Nothing, sir," she replied, attempting to mask her true emotions.
Richmond, however, wasn't convinced. His keen intuition sensed an underlying sadness in Anne's demeanor, even though she denied it. He couldn't shake the feeling that there was something she wasn't sharing. "Are you sure, Ms. McCody?" he inquired, peering into her eyes with a mix of curiosity and concern.
Anne, feeling a bit cornered, maintained her composure. "I'm fine, Mr. Richmond. Just a bit tired," she replied, hoping to steer the conversation away from her emotions.
