Ignorant of the green pair of eyes watching them, Sophie couldn't shake the feeling of curiosity and dislike as she studied the woman seated beside Richmond.
Her father had planted a magnificent seed in her mind. His grand plan, unveiled with an air of excitement, had ignited a spark within Sophie's heart. From that moment, she found herself entertaining the idea of a future with Richmond, she wouldn't have to bother about going broke anymore. She would have all the money to spend but the unexpected presence of another woman threatened to cast a shadow over her burgeoning aspirations.
She saw Anne as an obstacle to the perfect future she had envisioned. Her glance left the couple and swerved to her father sitting beside her.
As Sophie tapped her father, breaking the bubble of whispered conversations around them, she inquired, "Daddy, do you know that woman who came with Richmond?"
