Chapter 11 - A normal maid

One of the cloaked men immediately signaled the rest to keep their weapons for now as he walked closer...

The attacks on the outside should've sent all of the servants running down to their saferoom in the basement. This was their standard protocol, and they all knew of it, which was exactly why they were able to freely sneak into the mansion...

So the big question in their minds is, why is there a random maid just roaming about despite this situation?

But whatever the case may be, she was a hindrance to their mission

"Listen here, lil miss maid, there's nothing for you to see around these parts. Just turn around and go back to where you came from. If you pretend to see nothing happening here, then we'll also pretend that we didn't see you"

"Well, I appreciate the offer, but I could clearly see something fishy happening here. And if you people are attempting to take the life of my master then I'm afraid I'm gonna have to do something...It's the job of a maid to take care of her lord after all"

"Yeah, but I don't think it's also the job of a maid to fend off any assassins who come for their master, right? Don't make this complicated for yourself, lil maid. Just turn around, and run away. This is my last warning"

"Fufu, you really are a kind fellow...most of the bandits that I've encountered were less patient than you were. I think I'll let you live a while longer"

"Why you little...I've had it with your-"

The cloaked man took out a dagger from his pocket and attempted to shove it down to her chest

But just as it was mere inches away from her skin, his hands stopped dead in their tracks. The man tried to move his arm to continue doing its work, but the moment he did so he felt a sharp pain piercing his skin. He immediately stopped and wondered what was going on...

"T-This is..."

His questions were soon answered the moment he saw layers of thin and sharp metal threads that were wrapped around his arm. He then traced these threads all the way down to the maid's fingers, and with each movement her fingers make, no matter how small tightened the grip on his arm

"I suggest you don't move too much, unless you want to have your arm sliced to pieces"

The maid then ignored him and clasped her hands...before they knew it, layers of threads began to appear and float around their surroundings. Each of these threads seemed to be greatly enhanced with magic which makes it both durable and deadly...

All of them knew then and there that she was no ordinary maid

"You fuckin bitch!"

One of them immediately charged and went for the kill

While the rest of the following from behind

In order to support them, the rest who were left at the back threw poisoned daggers toward the maid. But it was no use...the maid merely moved her wrist, and the threads moved accordingly to her will, chopping down the daggers, as well as most of the bandits who tried to charge in

Most of the bandits are in awe of her mastery at manipulating those things. She was like a spider masterfully spinning her web, and they were the unfortunate flies that got trapped in her domain

The rest of the group who survive retreated upon realizing that the threads were also tough enough to slice through their weapons like butter. They knew that they needed to plan...

Two of them knelt down and looked to be initiating a sort of prayer

"[Oh goddess of fertility, hear mine wishes and grant the blessing of thine follower in the name of thine eternal bounty for us to keep. Grant us your protection and safety against all poison that may harm us! Poison immunity!]"

A green light enveloped all the cloaked men. And seeing this, the maid prepared her threads

"[Oh God of pestilence, I beg of thee to hear the wishes of thine follower and answer to mine will for the sake of the great plague. I desire to summon a gas of death that would reap the life of all who inhale it. Poison gas!]"

One of the cloaked men began to spit out a purple cloud from his mouth that quickly traveled into the air and headed toward the maid. In response, she manipulated the threads and sliced a massive chunk of the walls at the side. This would ventilate the poison out in the air, but despite this, she was still able to inhale some of the poisonous air

The fact that her hands were slightly shaking was proof of that, and with this, she would surely have a difficult time manipulating this many threads...

Seeing this, the cloaked men charged again thinking that she was as good as dead

Little did they know...

"Poison of this caliber isn't enough to do anything to me..."

The maid muttered with a smile before charging along with them. She continued to swiftly manipulate the threads with her fingers which turned it into a ragging torrent that tore the cloaked men into shreds. Their screams of terror echoed in the night...and soon, the twenty bandits who were once standing were now nothing more than chunks of meat

"W-Wha..."

The surviving bandit couldn't help but think that this was all just a bad dream...a terrible nightmare that he would soon wake up from...

After all, this very notion seemed impossible. He knew that his brother-in-arms were tough men, that had gone through the hellish trials of the world and came back stronger. Yet they were all defeated by a maid with a couple of sharp threads?...

"I-Impossible...w-who the hell are you?"

"Oh my, apologies for the late introduction. My name is Quinn, maid of the Albion family. I primarily take care of our guests, cook our meals, and clean up the pieces of trash like you that would waltz into our home like this...though I do keep this side of mine a secret from the rest of the family "

Quinn snapped her fingers which caused the threads to dig deep into his restrained arms until they became nothing more than chunks of meat

"AAAAAARRRRRGGH! Kgh...fuck..."

"Now then, I have a couple of questions for you, so I'd really appreciate it if you'd answer them all..."

Hearing this, the man felt another set of threads wrapped around his other arm

"Unless of course, you want me to begin tearing you from limb to limb"

The rest of the servants didn't exactly know why, but there was a moment when they heard the scream of a man last longer than anyone else

****

After a while, Quinn entered Vergil's room with a sigh. The interrogation lasted quite some time, though it was worth it considering all of the juicy intel she managed to squeeze out of him. Judging from the noise outside, it seems that the bandit attack was still raging on

This was exactly the reason why she was baffled at the fact that her master was still able to sleep properly

And he was snoring like crazy too. She wondered if he was just pretending to sleep, but immediately deemed it as unlikely. If he was truly awake then he would be the first one to charge head-first into the battlefield and slaughter all of those bandits

She slowly tiptoed close to him and watched his sleeping face with a smile

"Fufu...you look as adorable as ever. And so defenseless too...how cute"

The more she looked at him, the more she wanted this moment to last

But as his trusty maid, she knew that she shouldn't let her master out of something exciting

With this in mind, she took out a dagger

And shoved it at his face...

"Woah, what do you think you're doing?"

Or at least that was the plan until her hand was stopped by Vergil's

"Rise and shine, milord~"

"Hah? I mean, Is it just me? Or is the sky still too dark for it to be morning?"

"It is indeed still night, milord. However, I'm afraid that we've run into a bit of a pickle. There are bandits attacking our household and they could bust through our defenses any moment now"

"Is that so? I knew that there was something off when I heard the screams of the bandits getting more realistic...I thought it was in my dream or something. Anyway, so where are Mom and Dad? Are they joining in the battle or what?"

"I just left a while ago and they weren't there yet. I'm afraid that they may have encountered some...unsavory guest"

"H-Help me..."

A weak voice came from the other side of the door, and with a smile, Quinn manipulated her threads and sliced the man into two before she gently pulled it back

"Apologies, it seems that I left another one alive"

"Hmmm, well ain't this troublesome. Seems that I missed a lot of things...you see, Quinn? This is exactly why I don't ever want to sleep. It's troublesome, and a waste of time. I could pump my brain using magic to keep myself awake in the first place"

Vergil grumbled as he dressed up and took his sword

"Milord, I forced you to sleep this time around because you've been hunting in the forest for eight days straight, non-stop. I don't care how convenient it is, I won't allow you to replace your sleep with magic"

"Fine, whatever"

He then slowly removed it from its sheath

"Let's just kill these bastards"
