When the yearly break from the academy arrived, Selya wanted to stay for the tournament but had to leave as something happened at home. His father, the duke, sent her a letter to return home as soon as possible.
So indeed after round one was done, she returned home, after speaking with Klaus that she couldn't be present for his match with the prince. Luckily for her, he didn't take it to heart and waved off his hands saying that she should return home as it was more important than seeing him beating the snorty brat down.
She just thought that it was his pride speaking. No guy wants to admit to his girl that he is any way lesser than another guy, especially the guy who was eyeing his girl.
She only understood how wrong she was when she received the letter from him.
