Chapter 20 - Entrance Test (4)

Every participant entered their own copy of the dungeon. Everyone got an hour, and in this one hour, they have to kill as many monsters as they can. The kills will be counted by the tokens given to the participants.

There are only two monsters present in the dungeon. They are slimes and goblins.

Of course, the test won't be that simple. Each monster has different variations of classes. There would be Normal monsters, Elite monsters, Monster Generals and Monster Kings. For goblins, there are Shamans as well.

Each would give them a different number of points. Moreover, the points obtained would also depend on the ranks of the monsters.

Killing F ranks would yield fewer points than killing E-rank monsters.

To gain high enough points depends not only on quantity but also on quality.

Klaus entered his own copy and the first monster he encountered were slimes. They look cute and bubbly and he read how dangerous they are. Their body corrodes any material to nothing.

Since slimes don't have normal bodies like other monsters, the only way to kill them is by destroying their cores.

Slimes won't attack any living being unless they were attacked first but they do cause a lot of losses in agriculture. So in the outside world, quests to kill slimes are when these incidents happen. The only other reason to hunt slimes is to train newly awakened.

The moment Klaus saw the slimes, he attacked them from a distance using Mana Bullets.

All the hard work paid him. For every bullet, one slime died. In a few seconds, he completely eliminated the slimes present.

A total of 10 slimes died, which gave him a total of 10 points.

Slimes have very few variations in the hierarchy but many variants. So unless one can kill Slime Emperor or Queen, the points gained would only be low.

After killing slimes, Klaus continued on the hunt. He didn't need much mana for killing those slimes, so he proceeded without rest after all the time is limited.

Theon...

Theon didn't expect that the examination would steer away like that.

He came from Toria or at least that's what he told others. There is a reason for that. Many who hail from Toria aren't from Toria but from other towns and villages. They only say Toria because most people don't even know Toria. Forget about knowing their poor towns and villages if they have no idea about the region's capital.

Theon has another purpose for hiding his hometown. He wasn't from the region or any nearby ones.

His family was actually from Toro, a prominent coastal city of the empire. It was destroyed almost ten years ago by some unknown power. No one knows what truly happened.

The only thing everyone was sure about is that an explosion wiped out Toro. Millions died on that day, leaving survivors in the mid-thousands. Theon is one among those lucky ones or unlucky ones.

He survived the disaster but none of his family did. He only survived as he went out to play with his friend. The friend's family survived the disaster as their house was far away from the explosion point.

After the disaster, there were none of his family or relatives who survived could take him in.

His family was wealthy and situated in the central zone of Toro, which was the point of origin for the explosion. His friend's family who were poor, located in the outer regions of the city, and the reason for survival.

The relatives that come from nearby towns and cities, showed aversion to Theon. He didn't understand the reason for it. They used to pamper him whenever they visited his home.

Theon later understood that those relatives only liked him because of his family's wealth. Now it is gone, they don't need to pretend anymore.

Luckily, his friend Eric's family took him in.

Though he was friends with Eric, he had a bit of aversion towards outer regions and the people who lived there but that day changed his opinion.

People define who they are, not where they were born.

He started to hate people of wealth, though never showed open hostility. This became a bit worse as he started to grow and reached its peak when he heard some news about the explosion from an unknown person who covered his face.

The person told Theon that the cause of the explosion is the royal family.

He didn't believe it like a fool but the person made some good arguments. The day before the explosion happened there was a party from the capital that arrived at Toro.

The explosion to happen the next day was not a coincidence. The party that arrived was definitely related to the explosion.

The question was are the cause or not it is just a coincidence.

Theon decided to find out himself and for that, he worked very hard.

To his luck, he even found a master who trained him for two years, which is the reason why he reached a low-level 2-star less than a year after the ceremony.

He wanted to subtly investigate the explosion but his 2-star rank caused tremors among the people present.

There is no way that the royals wouldn't learn about this.

The plan for subtlety is ruined, so he decided to go all out.

His master has warned him to conceal himself well or to show greatness if he wanted to achieve his goal.

He can investigate subtly and none would be wiser to think that he was the cause.

He can gain a backer and can move freely to learn about what happened.

Both have their own pros and cons but now he already lost the path to conceal.

One can be mediocre and get away from the cons of both but this clashes with why he is here.

Now is the time to gain a backer, a powerful backer.
